- innominate, on 10/12/2007, -11/+425Um, yeah, 7.1 is no longer supported, but 7.5 is... might want to actually look into this before you start posting things...
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 - ihatemakingscre, on 10/12/2007, -4/+127That was misleading. Marked as inaccurate.
- lordthor, on 10/12/2007, -13/+109This is a dupe, AND it's inaccurate. You, sir, are a ***** idiot.
Bury this story as inaccurate. - Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -5/+82LINK TO 7.5 FREE EDITION FOR ALL THE NooBS AND PLAYA HATAS:
http://www.grisoft.com/doc/products-avg-anti-virus-free-edition/lng/us/tpl/tpl01 - RSCruiser, on 10/12/2007, -4/+78"It no where says on that page that the new version is going to be free."
7.5 must be mysteriously charging my nonexistent credit card then because I never payed for my version...
Hope this story gets buried into oblivion. - innominate, on 10/12/2007, -8/+80True, but if you jump to the front page, and then go to products, it will point you at the free version of 7.5. I assume normally someone would attack looking for a free version of AVG from the front page, but I apparently I am wrong.
- reiggin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+65Wow, this is the most misleading and inaccurate thing I've seen on Digg in a while.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+67Hysteria FTW. This is like going bonkers when the light comes on warning you about the gasoline in your car... my goodness.
- VaKo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+41Wow... Digg really is a perfect example of why mob rule is worthless. Idiots finally have a voice.
- scorpshockey, on 10/12/2007, -5/+40It was misleading, until I finished reading it...
- innominate, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
- rclay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Just go to http://www.grisoft.com/doc/products-avg-anti-virus-free-edition/lng/us/tpl/tpl01 and download the the free 7.5 version
- loggia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31I am using the free version of 7.5 right now.
If you simply read the pop-up - without reacting in hysteria - it says version 7.5 is free. If you go to the link, there is a link for the free version. The link provided on Digg is NOT the link they give you.
Of course, they try to sell you on a paid version, but this should be marked as misleading and buried. - gregh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29From free.grisoft.com:
"GRISOFT is announcing a new version of the AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. This new 7.5 version with improved performance and user interface is available. Users that are using AVG Free 7.1 will be provided with a specific dialog, within the next few weeks, with the opportunity to choose the right option fulfilling their needs. AVG Free 7.1 version will be discontinued on 15th of Jan 2007." - greyghost487, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29the popup that happens on the PC, if you actually read it, gives you a nice shiny button to click to update to 7.5, complete with instructions!!!
AVG did this with AVG 6, a new version comes out, they want people to upgrade so they discontinue updates for the previous version after a set amount of time. rinse. repeat. after next new version
use your brain, it doesnt hurt i promise - thetaco82, on 10/12/2007, -6/+33Idiots have always had a voice. Part of the reason they are considered idiots is because they use it too often.
- spect3r, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Marked as Inaccurate.
- slicerace, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Read the popup, moron, stop posted idiotic articles on Digg. No digg & marked as inaccurate.
- garbanzo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26If you don't have antivirus software, how do you know that you don't have a virus? Are you running OS X or something?
- djfelix, on 10/12/2007, -10/+28Emphasis on ASS ....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23Come on people, lets get this ***** buried. The most inaccurate post I've seen on Digg.
The lame ass submitter was probably a-fap-fap-fapping over his scoop and forgot to check the facts. - mississippiman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19I really wish people would read things before posting
- schalicto, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20I do like AVG just because it's a free and updatable virus scanner, but I wouldn't pay for anti-virus this day in age.
- roadmr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17I'm sure I'm not the only one who actually understood what's going on; AVG 7.1 FREE is being replaced by 7.5 FREE. Similar to what happened when the update from 6.x to 7.x happened. Reported as inaccurate. Please read before you post.
- peerk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Everyone who dugg this should have their digging rights revoked.
- rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19I agree with the ***** Idiot remarks
- sporktek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15They do, it's called 'Political News'.
- tastethevenom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Whoops, UN-DIGG... hope you others do the same.
- Double-Z, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16For once, I'm glad an article is inaccurate. Reported as such.
- arkmtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Avast is a decent piece of software, but definitely not the best in the freeware anti-virus ring.
Back in August of 2006, Virus.gr performed a test of all leading free & commercial anti-virus apps, and found that Kaspersky came out on top, detecting 99.62% of viruses out of a set of 147,184 viruses. (LINK: http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=82 )
While I hate to plug any product belonging to AOL, their 'Active Virus Shield' uses Kaspersky's engine, is free (as in "beer") and requires no account, includes semi-daily updates, and scored EXACTLY the same as Kaspersky's "pro" commercial product.
(LINK: http://www.activevirusshield.com/ )
I've been using 'Active Virus Shield' for approx. 2 months, and have been very impressed with it's ability to scan files, including compressed archives - What's more, no "AOL" bloatware/crapware or even so much as a splash-screen - Just fantastic virus protection for free! - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Just installed 7.5, looks nice and free. And nice that its still free.
- evilrobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10also, buried as inaccurate... what kind of morons keep digging this story?
- jccalhoun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Yeah, when it popped up, I was like, "That sucks." Then I read the rest of the message....
- cday, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Not only does AVG still offer a free-for-personal-use anti-virus, they've also purchased ewido anti-spyware and now offer a home version of that for free too.
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ - scblock, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12How is this still on the front page? Not only that but getting more diggs. This is insane.
- evilrobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8ok... 40 more people dugg this story in the last two minutes since i posted this.
morons.
you know what... keep digging it... I would love to see this on diggnation...
:Kevin: "ok... neeeext story... digg user base apparently comprised of idiots. 2000 diggs... so, heres the deal, some moron who cant read and didnt go to the actual website either made a post....." "......yet still, the sheep kept clicking." - sparwani, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11and yet the number of diggs continues to increase
- tehdave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Inaccurate, 7.1 will no longer be supported but the nice new 7.5 will.
So buried - tdel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7buried as inaccurate
- jaggededge99, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11I'll admit that Grisoft seems to be misleading people in an effort to move them to one of their paid products. Nevertheless, the title of this story is inaccurate.
- t0ms, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9inaccurate
- darkfate, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9marked as inaccurate.
- mercurysquad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6digg system is seriously flawed somewhere.......
This is an inaccurate post in every sense of the word, still it seems some morons are digging it and now it's on the front page, causing more and more FUD. - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10http://www.grisoft.com/doc/products-avg-anti-virus-free-edition/lng/us/tpl/tpl01
Inaccurate. That's the link for the free version of AVG - drafhk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Why has this not been marked as inaccurate? 300 different people have responded to this thread saying it's *****. Why is it not marked as inaccurate?
- Flanker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This is amazing. Over 1000 diggs on a blatantly inaccurate story. If this guy even read the popup it explained they were simply forcing an upgrade to the 7.5 version which is still free. How come this isn't buried yet? There seem to be quite a large number of people who have marked it inaccurate just judging from the comments alone.
- DiamondIce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"use your brain, it doesn't hurt i promise"
Don't say that, I used my brain to open a can of tuna once, hurt like hell and now I cannot remember my piano lessons. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Innacurate
- blumer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9This Just In! Ubuntu 5.04 has been DISCONTINUED! Time to find another distro, people!
