- writr, on 10/07/2008, -1/+26These are awesome! I can't believe they're web-based. Some look like they can rival photoshop.
- AmyVernon, on 10/07/2008, -0/+11Those look great. Especially good as I don't have photoshop on my laptop...
- DigSomeMore, on 10/07/2008, -0/+11Some of those look appealing, wish i had more of a need for web-based though...
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+10Similar program, downloadable source code so you can use in your own applications.
http://akoie.akanai.eu/ - xXRobbyXx, on 10/07/2008, -0/+10Phoenix is part of Aviary.
- ers35, on 10/07/2008, -0/+8It might look like it, but they definitely cannot match Photoshop's power.
- zimmbear, on 10/07/2008, -1/+7OMGEE!!!!!!
- nourayehia, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6Pixlr seems like a smart option especially if you are looking for a good alternatives to PS or Fireworks.
Great list, some useful stuff here. - nyde, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4If you use photoshop or something similar, I'd try Aviary, I was surprised that I was doing some pretty cool stuff.
- twoyups, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4photoshop is what happens when you take nasa-grade engineers and have them analyze vector patterns of shades of pixels
- themadhatter444, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4Excellent! Upon making the switch to a Macbook, I was highly disappointed to learn that there really isn't any simple picture editor packed in. iPhoto just doesn't do enough to be accurately named an 'editor.' This will help tremendously.
Thanks again, internet. - sc0ttius, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Yay... no more googling "crop photo online" and using some generic thing....
- matt247, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3picnik is pretty good for simple photo editing
- wannapiece, on 10/07/2008, -1/+4photobucket has an outstanding photo-editing program, I was surprised to not see it on this list.
Most of these look like GUI rips straight from photoshop. - Oddish, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3I ♥ Pixlr
- mojaam, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2I've been looking for these! Usually had to remote login and open up photoshop, email it to myself, etc... to do a simple crop or something like that.
- OwdenBowden, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Liking the SUMO. Fluid.
- ethana2, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2I wonder how many people pirate photoshop just for simple crops..
- jaxomlotus, on 10/07/2008, -1/+3Along the same lines of what's mentioned in the article here are 42 free Aviary tutorials for the Phoenix editor, ranked by expertise:
http://a.viary.com/tutorials - MacBookForMe, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2The same here, I loved that suggestions and I'll pick one for me, for sure:)
- dgtart, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Pixlr is the *****!
- Atomic1fire, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1If you want to edit some images to check out these sites, but don't want to find some photos or something, or don't have them on hand Wikipedia has a decent public domain list
- untamedkb, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Excellent resource..a good list site in general.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1You were dugg down by Microsoft.
- rYno, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Why didn't they add http://picnik.com ? one of the more popular ones from what I understand
- Phazoni, on 10/07/2008, -3/+4It's all about the "cloud" folks. This is where the future of computing lies.
- neodude237, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1I should check this out, I use Paint.net on windows, but am not too big of a fan of Gimp on Linux, these look good.
- MrViklund, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1I only need one...
- AgmLauncher, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1I tested all of them and http://www.sumopaint.com/app/ is the only one that seems to properly resize images. The others produce jagged edges, while sumopaint smooths them.
- neodude237, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1I hate Gimp's GUI, that is my main problem with it, so I'll take a web app with a better GUI over Gimp anytime.
- ultrafez, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1You don't need invites any more. I just signed up, no invite needed.
- ethana2, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1That's good, because from what I hear, you only /have/ .....
Wait, one what? Oh, image editors, yes. (GIMP 2.6 FTW) - cityrat59, on 10/15/2008, -0/+1An excellent review!
- ethana2, on 10/08/2008, -1/+1Ubuntu 8.10 will ship GIMP 2.6, for what it's worth.
But then, OSX doesn't even ship with a bittorent client last I heard..
Still, it would be a mistake to underestimate the value of toys. Not everyone is a professional, and sometimes too much power is just confusing. If you don't believe me, install blender. - sadatoni, on 10/07/2008, -1/+1Can you say SLOW? Do any of them edit RAW files?
- ethana2, on 10/08/2008, -1/+1They've fixed the inferior core engine, and the gui is next.
If the gimp isn't good enough for you, I find it hard to believe some javascript app is. - floronicman, on 10/07/2008, -1/+1Simply awesome! Thanks to xXRobbyXx!
- ebaypaul75, on 01/12/2009, -0/+0Yep, I agree.
- zxuan, on 10/07/2008, -0/+0These are very good editors, but maybe too powerful for simple tasks. Have you tried http://www.picmagick.com ? This tool is very good for small retouches.
- ebaypaul75, on 01/12/2009, -0/+0Cloud computing and web applications are here to stay. Everything is going to be web based soon. Companies who realize and get on with the change will survive this current economic mess.
- Scienceticist, on 10/07/2008, -1/+1I really like photoshop.com...
- Ferre1, on 10/07/2008, -5/+2They forgot Aviary http://a.viary.com
Probably because they couldn't get their hands on an invite.
