isn't it the other way around? - mugicha, on 01/01/2008, -19/+142In Soviet Russia, Windows transforms you into other OS.
Or something like that. - inactive, on 01/01/2008, -2/+70"So you finally decided to switch to ubuntu?"
"No I just downloaded some theme pack"
"You're a ***** idiot" - MackPrime, on 01/01/2008, -9/+72XP is stable
- chris9902, on 01/01/2008, -1/+60Royale Noir is a really nice XP theme and it's an official one from Microsoft so you don't need to hack any dlls. Google it.
- sparf, on 01/01/2008, -25/+72A phrase comes to mind...
"You can't polish a turd." - SniperZero, on 01/01/2008, -3/+40Why oh why would you want to do that?
- smurf22, on 01/01/2008, -13/+481)Looks-Check
2)Stability-negative - LilyFoxglove, on 01/01/2008, -0/+33Since you have been unable to reply to multiple posts at once. So, always
- inactive, on 01/01/2008, -15/+47your computer must suck because Win XP SP2 is as stable as linux.
- seanthebond, on 01/01/2008, -1/+31Thats sooo 2007.
- spambutcher, on 01/01/2008, -0/+29fun - but as a former IT guy - this kind of stuff would drive me to tears.
would always have some guy who's system was crashing all the time who'd loaded up this kind of stuff.
"geez Rich - can't you just fix my computer? oh, why does it look like it's running OS/2 Warp? It's just this fun thing I installed - that can't be the problem."
I don't have any knowledge of these particular "packs" - but they do modify files like explorer.exe and shell32.dll (hmm - can't imagine that causing problems when XP SP3 comes out...)

use them. - Gavagai80, on 01/01/2008, -4/+31Ubuntu brown is ugly, but not quite as ugly as XP's default fisher price theme. At least it doesn't look like a toy for a three year old.
- ZippidyDoo, on 01/01/2008, -0/+24How are these on system resources? Any bad experiences out there?
- DefaultGen, on 01/01/2008, -3/+27Actually, if you use an XP install disc instead, you can get rid of Vista altogether.
- EricSancho, on 01/01/2008, -4/+27The reason I use Linux is not of the... what did the article call it?... the LOOKS of it.
But it is nice someone came out to do all this. - planksconstant, on 01/01/2008, -3/+25really? we're back to soviet russia jokes now?
- Thugacation, on 01/01/2008, -3/+23Whoever created the Fedora Transformation Pack needs to head over to gnome-look.org or at least figure out what Fedora 8 really looks like.
- b-dizzle, on 01/01/2008, -3/+23They're better than "I see what you did there".
- aussieNickuss, on 01/01/2008, -0/+20It's just a bit of digg nostalgia. Go back to any comment page from a year ago and it will have @'s all over the place.
- inactive, on 01/01/2008, -0/+19maybe we use th "@" signs because every time we try to reply we see "Your session has expired. Please refresh the page to comment." this happens all the time now. Sometimes digg just wont let me reply to someone, even if i totally shutdown firefox and reload the page from scratch, login and all. So we have to find another spot digg will allow us to post in and use "@" so people will know who we're replying to.
- mysql101, on 01/01/2008, -1/+20this stuff is amazing. Can't afford to buy fedora? Here's how you can make your windows xp desktop look like that linux system without the added cost!
- CopyNinja, on 01/01/2008, -3/+21Yeah I don't think the thing that many people use Ubuntu for is the visual appearance.
- JudgeMonkey, on 01/01/2008, -2/+19Or at least use the reply button. take your @blahblahs straight to hell.
- Ouze, on 01/01/2008, -2/+19"Ubuntu" is not "Linux". There are some linux distros that look as good as, and sometimes better, then vista. Check out sabayon, for example.
- ioannusdeverani, on 01/01/2008, -0/+17Wow. You just killed that joke.
- drizzlelicious, on 01/01/2008, -3/+19This is similar to sticking a Ferrari logo on a Honda
- Urusai, on 01/01/2008, -1/+17All your meme are belong to us.
- qwertydvorak, on 01/01/2008, -0/+16my very favorite thing is when someone who knows nothing about how a computer works swears that something can't be the problem.
- duckyinc, on 01/01/2008, -2/+18they are laggy because you computer can't run vista, trying to emulate it is just the same
- Speed, on 01/01/2008, -1/+16And that has what exactly to do with this story?
- doshindude, on 01/01/2008, -0/+14http://www.istartedsomething.com/20061029/royale-n ...
- Ouze, on 01/01/2008, -0/+14If only you had worked in Ron Paul, you could have hit the apple-linux-RP trifecta and would have scored ++eleventy diggs, scoring the ultimate all time digg high score.
- TonyKay, on 01/01/2008, -3/+15Skinning XP is a massive resource hogger
- Azselendor, on 01/01/2008, -1/+13Everything old is new again
- Myonosken, on 01/01/2008, -5/+16If you don't want the Aero look...why are you using Vista?
- PhrosTT, on 01/01/2008, -1/+12royale noir FTW.
- inactive, on 01/01/2008, -14/+25yeh it's still gonna crash on you
- inactive, on 01/01/2008, -1/+12Is it just me or has digg been overrun with spam?
- inactive, on 01/01/2008, -0/+10HP doesn't have XP drivers for some new laptops.
- griz, on 01/01/2008, -3/+13No need, his are shiny acrylic and aluminum.
- fcukthisgame, on 01/01/2008, -2/+12Driver hell? I've got a 7900GT and I've used ubuntu AND source distros like gentoo, and I've never had a problem with it. You were made for windows.
- EnderMB, on 01/01/2008, -26/+35Why on Earth would you want XP to look like Ubuntu. As much as I love Ubuntu it looks like crap and Windows has Linux trounced on all parts of UI.
- ZingMan, on 01/01/2008, -0/+9Transformation packs always create troubles. It's better to apply the skins and other GUI stuff separately, as is guided by this Windows to Ubuntu thread:
http://www.winmatrix.com/forums/index.php?showtopi ... - josh1413, on 01/01/2008, -2/+11I dual boot XP Pro and Vista, so far I have had 1 BSoD in Vista (only had it for a week now), In XP Pro I don't ever remember having one in the past 3-4 years. Vista said my Nvidia drivers/hardware were to blame............
I think Vista will mature out here in year, and everything will be smooth sailing. For the most part I'm really impressed with Vista. - MackPrime, on 01/01/2008, -4/+13http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=75078
does the job. Also, set your title bar font size to a few points smaller. - MioTheGreat, on 01/01/2008, -4/+13Better security? Better Media Center? Better Tablet PC Support? Better Stability? A much better explorer design (It just keeps getting better and better than Finder, doesn't it?) DX10? IIS7?
- MioTheGreat, on 01/01/2008, -0/+9Vista is what happens when they focus on GUI?
The changes to Vista's GUI are overall insignificant compared to the massive amount of overhauling of a LOT of the underlying systems in Vista: The Network stack, audio stack, graphics stack & driver model, memory managment, security, etc. -
