- Hush, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I like mustard on my biscuits.
- armbar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9You could just look at the URL of the page.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Uhm what blog? Talk about a ***** title. Anyways Akismet is awesome, but it does have a margin of error. I always double check them really fast before I delete it. Def one of the best WP plugins.
- bram, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Speaking of Spam... What is up with all the ***** comments?!?!?
- noliberalbull, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've been using Spam Karma for a few months now... seems to ge the job done well. http://unknowngenius.com/blog/wordpress/spam-karma/
- fractured, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7DIGG ME DOWN!
- toast1226, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I use Akismet for my forums -- it blocks spam/bans the user, but has blocked the wrong stuff before. eg. fun topics where you post a picture then sometimes akismet will detect it as spam.
- sciencebase, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I added Bad Behavior to my setup on www.sciencebase.com and removed the captcha image. Bad Behavior has trapped 2174 spam-bot accesses since I installed 24 hours ago while Akismet has saved me from 51,123 putative spam comments in the last six months. Akismet has produced only 2 or 3 false positives in that time, which I'd have to say is an even better trapping success rate than GMail's email spam filtering system.
- johnsto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Akismet works great on a PunBB forum I run. It gets about one false-positive a month, but that's no problem to spot and fix compared to the hundreds of spam posts that are made in the same timeframe! I can even allow anonymous posts and don't have any need for captcha's. It's that effective and accurate.
Anyone wanting to run a forum but scared of the spam should give it a go. (Akismet isn't used in PunBB by default, but is available as a plugin on the official PunBB website) - johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Huh - I haven't had a problem. It's been blocking the right ones on my blog site, but then again, it seems that almost all the comments coming in are spam.
- TheQwe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've only had one legit comment get blocked, and only two spam comments slip through the filter(out of 13k or so). I'd say whatever Akismet does, it does it right.
What surprises me is how much spam I actually get- I have a fairly low-traffic personal blog... - SteelFrog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've had one or two good comments slip by at first and it then let the occasional spam through but out of millions of SPAM, I'm talking in the less-than-10 range it didn't catch,
- m1bxd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1works for me too!
- kitta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've had over 58,000 spam comments blocked by Akismet. Over the years I've had many antispam hacks and plugins installed, Akismet is the only one I have been 99% happy with.
The only way I would be 100% happy was if we went back to a time where blog spam didn't exist. - andreascliment, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was using Akismet for a while on http://www.lostblog.net , it did a pretty good job but now and then it marked valid comments as spam, and I still had to manually check the spam list to make sure that no real comments were caught, so I tried Spam Karma 2 and I'm happy to say that it is doing a great job. Hardly any legitimate comments are marked as spam while every single spam comment is caught (over 30,000 and counting) so I'm able to let it do it's thing and not be bothered by maintaining the comments. Has saved me a lot of time.
I've actually disabled Akismet now and am just using Spam Karma 2, works great. - elgecko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Over one million websites have reached over 1 million spam comments blocked.
But the guy behind techcrunch knows well how to make a hit out of it !
Will he reach 10 million spam blocked, blog it and then make another article that gets dugg, he he ? - pirana0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3http://www.spam.com/hp/hp_wh.htm
276,257,933 - tommasz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've only been using Akismet for a while, but it's been remarkably effective for me. I had started a new Wordpress blog on a new domain and the spam started almost immediately. So much for obscurity being an effective tool, I guess.
- elgecko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Supposing that advertisers are like spammers, but willing to pay for not being seen as spammers, this article is a very good move for its author.
- xxdesmus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Gmail's spam filter is terrible in my experience. I received close to 40-50 spam a day and Gmail's filter catches about 20-25 of those. It's that bad. (yes, I mark them as spam each time they do not get caught and it still doesn't help).
As for akismet, it works pretty well on my blog though I was receiving all kinds of spam trackbacks (but no one really uses trackbacks anyways) - bhuvans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Akismet Rocks..It caught 3,882 spam comments out of 5852 comments in my blog http://bhuvans.wordpress.com
- Spartandog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These guys brag about stopping spam but they can't fix their site to allow the "back" button to work?!!
- lofye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use it on my personal blog, too.
It trapped over 50,000 blog spam in December alone!
Fantasytastic :) - ealon005, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Serves them right... all spammers should die...
- silentdud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1misleading title
- Raybdbomb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I haven't had any luck with Akismet, it's always blocking my good comments and not blocking the bad ones. No I don't want trebutimol or whatever ***** you're peddling.
- moley, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2tard
- Beaver6813, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Yup, for some reason on my blog i've had a sudden influx of Spam, unfortunately they are using a proxy :( And a different proxy each time...
I mean just now someone left a comment:

When will this madness end! Don't they realise that these comments aren't even making it to my site! They gotta be validated by me first... shame on you spammers... - markdr123, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2But will it blend?
