- mquil, on 01/17/2009, -1/+18Enormous sharing, even I found there some of very useful plugins that I was searching since long time like WPPostRating & twitME,
- JerodSlay, on 01/17/2009, -1/+17"probably are essential"? if it were essential, you wouldn't say "probably"
- vats, on 01/17/2009, -1/+9Cool, I have used All in One SEO Pack and that is superb.
- madin, on 01/17/2009, -1/+8Thanks for sharing this list. "Yet Another Related Posts Plugin" will definitely boost your blog PIs. Just set it up a few weeks ago. Another really useful plugin which is not on the list is HeadSpace2 created by John Godley. That is a all-in-one meta-data manager that allows you to fine-tune the SEO potential of your site.
- inactive, on 01/17/2009, -1/+7Thanks for sharing.
- MykeXero, on 01/17/2009, -0/+6I work at a large webhost dealing with loady servers (you know, figuring out what users are causing the load).
Lately, It seems lately 9 times out of 10, the issue of the loady webserver comes back to a wordpress blog running the all-in-one-SEO plugin. Take the thing out and the load goes away. That plugin does not scale up with traffic well, so be careful if you are on a host that really keeps an eye on your CPU usage. Although, it could be case of everyone with a popular site using it.... so i could be putting the horse before the cart.
On the other end of the scale though, wp-supercache is awesome and should be mandatory with every WP install. - Otto, on 01/17/2009, -0/+5WP-Super-Cache will do that.
- EMFK, on 01/17/2009, -0/+4Thanks for the information, nitmeh3. I have experimented using many WP Plugins and have found the information posted by other Diggers to be quite useful regarding their experiences of what works and what doesn't for them. If you're new to the world of WP, this is another must see article that will help.
- joaob, on 01/17/2009, -0/+4I often use Wordpress as a platform to build sites off of. It's not just for blogging.
- FearlessFreep, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3Which one will keep your server from toasting when it gets linked to from digg, slashdot or reddit?
- Otto, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the All-in-One-SEO plugin, mainly because it does nothing that you can't do yourself with just a small amount of theme editing. If your theme was written correctly in the first place, none of what that plugin does is ultimately necessary.
Still, I can see its usefulness for people not comfortable with HTML/CSS/PHP, but really, if you hire a theme designer and they recommend a plugin to do that sort of thing, look for a different theme designer. - moothemagiccow, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2I could give a ***** about most of the stuff on digg's front page. So many popular posts are about the goddamned iphone or linux or new mac products, or worse, celebrity "news"
- entrepropel, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2Nice, I can always use more recommendations for WP Plugins
- annjay, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2For me most of these are really essential.
- hendrixlives64, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2dugg for appropriately cautious title.
- Sephr, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2Ultimate Google Analytics is an exact copy of Google Analyticator from what I see in that screenshot.
Also, post ranks are covered by the official plugin made by Automattic's IntenseDebate plugin and stick with the user.
And another thing: Gravatar support has been built-into WordPress since 1.2 (which is practically every release that people use) - jayoh, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2we're all geeks, are we not?
- se7en11, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1No it's a great site with original articles.
- SuperJason, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1No, the URL that generates the reader count image is feedburner, so it looks legit.
- BlaenkDenum, on 01/17/2009, -1/+2I'm the developer of the WP-reCAPTCHA plugin, and while it's true that it's possible that it can drive away commenters, if they really want to comment, they will. Also I've tried to make the plugin as flexible as possible. For example, you can turn off the CAPTCHA for registered users, etc.
- kevine, on 01/17/2009, -1/+2I disagree with the CAPTCHA. Sometimes, you don't care so much if commenters are driven away. You'd rather have that happen than to spend the time going through all the bogs you manage to filter out the spam.
I'm probably going to be dugg down by people who have blogs where comments are very important, and they shouldn't be using CAPTCHA, but understand that putting a barrier to comments isn't *always* a bad thing. And in my case, CAPTCHA was a lifesaver on a couple of specific sites I run. I don't use it for every site I manage, for the very reason that I don't want to drive commenters away on some sites. - Otto, on 01/17/2009, -1/+2While many of those are handy, I think that calling them "essential" is a bit overboard. The CAPTCHA one, for instance, is fairly useless. CAPTCHAs don't work for commenting, as it drives away commenters. Ratings are useful only for some sites. Gravatars are already built in and need no plugin at all. And so on. There's a lot more useful and non-obtrusive plugins out there that are more handy and worthy of "essential".
- kjfritchman, on 01/17/2009, -1/+2great resource to have.
- whiteeagle131, on 01/19/2009, -0/+1OGC
...
Wait.. Am I at the right story?
Ah, whatever, who cares... - Otto, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1The problem with a CAPTCHA is that it's just a bad solution. If you want to stop spam, there's tons of better ways that work perfectly, without any sort of moderation, without any sort of barricade to your users. I use a combination of Akismet and the Cookies for Comments plugin on half a dozen blogs, and none of them get any spam. I think I get maybe one a month on most of them that makes it through the gauntlet. These are all sites that get a fair amount of comments, and tons of spam attempts too.
If you have to resort to a CAPTCHA, then you're not looking hard enough. It's simply a weak solution, all around. - mantis108, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1I love the confidence in this title. I might possibly even kind of peruse this article if I have time.
- timedalkat, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1I can't find the outlet or the prongs to plug these in.
- mnc1031, on 04/03/2009, -0/+1I highlight five tools/resources that will PIMP YOUR BLOG starting today in this week's installment of Awesome Friday. Check it out here: http://www.lifewithoutpants.com/awesome-friday/awe ...
- ncmason, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1My top 9 are:
1. Broken Link Checker
2. WP Super Cache
3. WP Stats
4. Google XML Sitemaps
5. Smart Archives
6. Akismet
7. SEO Friendly Images
8. Lightview
9. Code Markup - keyo, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1dugg for not being another stupid top 10 list. This site includes 7 more, which would have been omitted if they followed this top 10 ***** cliche.
- Daniel15, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1They didn't mention Akismet... It's definitely essential these days, with all the blog comment spam that's going around. Anyone that runs a Wordpress blog that allows the public to comment, make sure you have Akismet set up!
- AzzX, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1I have been using All in one on http://www.azzx.org for a while though the new platinum seo seems more feature packed.
- kevine, on 01/17/2009, -1/+1For me, that's a bit like asking who cares about the iPhone, BSG, or pr0n. That's really all I got.
Oh, and most of the clients I develop for on WordPress are Fortune 500 companies. - kevine, on 01/18/2009, -1/+1Otto, that's specifically my point. You need to use what works for each specific situation. Akismet only catches a small fraction for me in some situations (too many false negatives) and in some situations, that's going to kill me. Cookies for Comments can give too many false positives, again, not acceptable.
CAPTCHA works for me in many situations where the spam hit rate is really, really high compared to the comment rate (before CAPTCHAS) - inactive, on 01/18/2009, -0/+0Dugg for "probably". I am sick of "Top 10 ***** you must have or die", "***** you cannot live without in 2009" ***** list.
- dakrisht, on 01/31/2009, -0/+0Thanks for sharing, I have a bunch of these installed on my Wordpress 2.7 hosted site...
I have embedded HD Video, various widgets, Wordpress is a great DIY Blog solution...
Don't miss and leave a comment since you're a great person :-)
www.AtomicSub.net - RunDiggMC, on 01/21/2009, -0/+0Dugg for the description's promise to provide bloggers with "an amazing and wonderful experience." The only thing better would be "an amazingly wonderful and badass experience."
- joabng, on 05/21/2009, -0/+0Thanks for sharing. check out more at the site below.
http://bloggerpinnacle.com/
http://33k.us/ - astorg, on 01/18/2009, -2/+1A very poor list. As pointed out, WP-Gravatar is now useless and of the others, the only one I would definitely rate a must-have is Google Sitemaps XML...
- jaygeeze, on 01/17/2009, -7/+2Does anyone else doubt that this site has 270,000 RSS subscribers?
- Pake, on 01/17/2009, -9/+1I seriously wonder, how many people on Digg honestly blog themselves, give a ***** about Wordpress, or give a ***** about Wordpress plugins? I'm willing to bet VERY few actually do care and that begs the question of "How in the hell does this crap keep getting on the front page?"

What is Digg?
