- mcdowalla, on 11/11/2008, -0/+9love the Prestashop one, never seen it before.
dont know how oscommerce is 'beautiful' - Myrth, on 11/11/2008, -0/+8Magento FTW!!!
- soapycub, on 11/11/2008, -0/+4I've used Magento and Prestashop for previous clients. Highly recommend both.
- webresources, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3A good thing about security of these applications is, they are all open source & used by thousands. When a security hole is found (which happens sometimes), they are fixed very fast by the project owners or the community.
- BrettFromTibet, on 11/11/2008, -1/+4finally they're getting stuff right!
- webresources, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2http://spreehq.org/ is for Ruby. But not sure if it is ready for the production environment.
- loconet, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2OS Commerce beautiful? What? From the outside maybe (even that's arguable, I find it looks pretty crappy by default). The inside (code) is a royal mess, a hack that I'm surprised is still around.
- cak3, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2Ubercart + Drupal = Win. I've used it to build many ecommerce sites even switched our own site over to Ubercart, their community is very friendly and helpful.
- quadrofolio, on 11/11/2008, -2/+4How are these e-commerce applications rated security wise? Anyone have any experience? When I see Wordpress plugin I get a nagging feeling if you know what you mean.
- VelvetBlues, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2Yeh, it ain't pretty....
Otherwise, great list. :-)
Funny, there are two spinoffs of OSCommerce... Zen Cart was built by old OSCommerce developers as well. - ivosilva, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2...
- withremote, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2I've been using OSC for a while, I took it upon myself to customize the theme to look like my main site, works like a charm now. There's tons on user created plug ins for customization.
- Foxphoto, on 11/12/2008, -0/+2osCommerce?!?! you have got to be f%ing kidding me. That application is the biggest POS ever.
- jhnrang, on 02/25/2009, -0/+1In the CMS category Drupal won the best open source software award for 2008.
http://www.infowebdirectory.org - counterplex, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1Most of these are PHP/MySQL based. Are there any that are Zope-based or Ruby on Rails based?
- terenceyap7, on 12/26/2008, -0/+1Why do I have to log in at this link? Don't you think that it would be better to post a link that everyone can have access to?
- jrowny, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1I love Ubercart. There's no unsupported payment types, built in inventory management, product tracking, shipping estimates with all major carriers, and anything else you need. Used it for a few sites as well and I'll never look back.
- xiangxianni, on 04/03/2009, -0/+1Thanks.

- moltar2, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1osCommerce and ZenCart are beautiful? hahaha osC is the biggest collection of garbage code I've ever seen. ZC is pretty bad too.
- hawksfan03, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1Wrong article....
http://digg.com/environment/Thomas_Friedman_Green_ ... - xiangxianni, on 02/14/2009, -0/+1Here you can get better applications.
http://www.registrycleanersreviews.info - DestroyFascism, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1Virtuemart / Joomla or Mambo has improved significantly. The templates are a pinch to manage..
- Shadoglare, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1I've used OSC in the past - nice and easy to get around in, even if you're not a programmer. It does have a very generic look to it however, and unless it's been heavily customized it's way too easy to look at a site and go "Hey, that's an OSC site!"
- doubleplus, on 12/27/2008, -0/+1wouldn 't let me in - asked for a user name and password...
- romanzenner, on 04/11/2009, -0/+0Why do I have to login to see this page?
- Nyox, on 11/11/2008, -0/+0wonderful tools... if I had something to sell :D
- ApparelWoman, on 11/29/2008, -0/+0Forget that FastCommerce.com ecommerce platform. It's low-cost, high-powered e-commerce for small business or home based business. Easy to use, beautiful templates, and completely for 50 products.
- dinki, on 11/11/2008, -1/+1I switched from OSC to ZenCart about two years ago and love it. I added a nice template for $40 and my sales skyrocketed! Maintenance is a breeze and it does everything I need. Definitely worth checking out.
- xlr8rbmx, on 12/03/2008, -0/+0Pretty cool, but I'd be wary of some on the list- mainly osCommerce. Just make sure you can afford to support and troubleshoot the code on your own.
- xlr8rbmx, on 12/03/2008, -0/+0Interesting list- particularly user-generated content and google adwords. I wonder what the next 10 developments in the next 10 years will be.
- NetEvolutionUK, on 11/11/2008, -2/+2brilliant list
- siamaksz, on 01/14/2009, -0/+0please send me the list again.
Thank you, - 1911shooter, on 02/19/2009, -0/+0Some of those are very interesting choices that I haven't previously heard of. I tried OSCommerce, but it had way too many security issues. The code was crap as well and was full of errors. I've heard good things about Zen cart. Might give it a look.

Insteresting list
Are these all the application on ecommerce?
What is the best application?
http://www.italiadropship.com - slickdf, on 11/29/2008, -1/+0Nice one mate.
http://www.kezoon.com - DirtyDiggDog, on 11/11/2008, -2/+0Beautiful is a relative term. Beautiful depends on who's doing the coding.
- pjkid1, on 11/11/2008, -9/+1Yet another example of Thomas L. Friedman’s tenth flattener: “The Steroids”. All of these new, innovated applications are integrating the digital, mobile, personal and virtual worlds—oh and let us not forget shopping! The realm of e-commerce is expanding and such applications are making it easier for everyone to join the online shopping trend.
