- 1021, on 10/12/2007, -5/+79I hate trying to squint to see these - stop this trend now and switch to 16x16 please!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+62Windows 1.0 just called saying they want their icons back.
- moke, on 10/12/2007, -3/+53This is nice but famfamfam.com is much better, 2000+ icons
- berwiki, on 10/12/2007, -3/+48what is with that cracked-out santa??
- kidblast, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30I don't so much mind that the icons are very small, but can "designers" stop using typography on websites that is too light to read. I don't care what kind of superior vision you have, that ***** is just unreadable.
- jhshukla, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27no. 10 is the new 16. and actually it is ... in hex.
- shucklak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Cool list.
Let me just say if I were a child I would not like to see that Santa coming down my chimney... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13"shame they're not 16x16 though"
Tiny is the new black. - Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10OK, the icons are nice. Way too small, but nice. However, what the ***** is up with the light gray text on a white background?
Taking these two things together, I can only assume this guy's job is to make the Internet as difficult to view as possible. - spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Burn them to a CD, then they won't be inanimate!
"Oh mom! You got me... a CD!!!! OMGOSH THANKS!!!!"
"Your welcome sweety :)"
"What's on it?!?!"
"113 professional looking 10x10 pixel greyscale icons!"
"...JUST WHAT I'VE ALWAYS WANTED!!!!" - Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10And I was just wondering where I could get 100+ Greyscale 10x10 icons the other day....
- analogpanda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I personally prefer the FamFamFam icons. But making icons is tedious work, and this guy has been nice enough to share his work for the rest of our benefit. Maybe it works for you.. maybe it doesn't, but don't bitch at the guy because the free icons he's sharing out of kindness aren't exactly what you want... it's not like you had to pay for them. They are what they are - a pretty nice, cohesive set of super tiny icons. We should encourage anyone who contributes to the open source community
Re-read the (digg) title of the article if you're having trouble understanding - Gosh!
With all that said.. I'll go back to using the FamFamFam icons, but I'll keep these in mind - EmmSee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5We want Vector!
- Llanowar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You've misspelled "dull and boring"...
- Antitorgo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+50xF = 15
0x10 = 16
0xA = 10, 0xB = 11, 0xC = 12, 0xD = 13, 0xE = 14, 0xF = 15
Maybe you calculated using nullity? - jgc7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4> "Open Source" icon, eh?
I agree that open source is not quite the right term, but there is a difference between distributing a well labeled svg/xcf file vs a png image. Getting an SVG or XCF file is very much like getting the source, where as getting a png is like getting a compiled binary. - BobTurtle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8That is so ***** compelling. You really should put this in your blog for the world to know.
- MavicA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4He looks a bit like one of the Icelandic Yule Lads (Jólasveinar), not Santa Claus... And no, you don't really want them paying you a visit.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yule_Lads (what's up with this strange links these days?) - antny, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6appreciate the free-ness of your work.. shame they're not 16x16 though
- l0ne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@rooster: Since many Linux icons nowadays derive from a SVG description, they can be said to have source, although you're right in most situations. :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Icons
For fancy color icons. - kevincannon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5roosterjm2k2 - Open source is as much a philosophy as it a technical term.
- evilTak, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1010x10? 16x16? How about svg? ∞ x ∞ FTW!
- evilTak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I can't recall the last time I filled stockings with animate objects. Although a bowl or open bag with some water and piranha does have its temptations...
- inkubux, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7usually I just take my icons from gnome-look or kde-look as they are free and open source, but 10*10 icons are cool though :)
- Pushkin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4http://www.famfamfam.com/lab/icons/silk/
But be careful about the preview - 1000 icons to load - DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2C'mon, I'm on a 120 dpi monitor here.
- kenflannery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How do digg's top stories go from "respected tech man suffers horrible death trying to rescue family in an epic 10 day affair in the blistering cold" to "hey... I made some... icons? they're gray!"
- Bleach00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2godamnit, I didn't mean to make this comment >:/
- SassyDave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The correct term is "licensed under the Creative Commons License".
- wassah2200, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://duggmirror.com
- kyhx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why do I collect these things? I never use them at all.
- ldavid, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5they are good for web developers probably...nice icons, easy to understand what they would link to (or do) and clean and simple...i like them
- cyroxos, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4If you were designing some sort of content management system, or just re-skinning a phpbb forum, these would be very useful.
- bigteebo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Tiny icons as referenced in TFA would be great for low-resolution displays, where you don't have that many pixels to work with.
Heck, I remember making pictures and stuff on an 8x8 pixel grid on the TI-99/4A. To me, low resolution artwork is a lost art. It should make a comeback. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why is this on the front page???
- stampy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2These icons are too small. They hurt my eyes. Just imagine what users that actually have poor eyesight will feel. Poor usability all around.
- ignorantcow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Famfamfam has only 1000.
- greenwald, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, this Digg looks really fishy. I can't imagine why so many people would 10X10 grayscale icons.
- engtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1more free icons are always good, but I have to agree that silk are the best I've seen when I was evaluating icons for my blog.
- grinin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks.... I like these color ones
- kenflannery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If there was ever a reason to think digg's integrity is being compromised, it's when 113 Professional Looking 10x10 grayscale icons are the top story of the day.
- AntonBaranchuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.iconconstructor.com
- jimmyp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I like these, cheers. Just used a bunch on my forums incuboard.com
