- chris480, on 09/05/2008, -3/+93I personally like the omibar
- plaxx, on 09/05/2008, -20/+91So basically, you want Firefox?
No thanks. Apart from a FEW minor adjustments, Chrome is fine as an Internet Browser. What I'd like to see is middle-click scroll support, and just one plugin: Web Developer Toolbar. - erichw1504, on 09/05/2008, -3/+7111. More cowbell
- rootsm3, on 09/05/2008, -4/+46I love Chrome. All I need is the internet and Chrome gives it to me. I'm going to marry Chrome and we're going to have good-enough looking babies.
- positron, on 09/05/2008, -2/+38RSS support!!!!! Seriously, it's the most overlooked flaw in Chrome so far. Where's the goddamn RSS auto-discovery!? Why am I left looking at unformatted xml source when I manage to find and click an RSS link instead of (at least) launching my default feed reader or even, heaven forbid, being asked which RSS web app I'd like to subscribe to the feed with? On today's web, and especially for a browser which touts itself as a web app platform, lack of RSS support is a damn crime.
- Echomote, on 09/05/2008, -4/+31"A regular old search box" no thanks, even in opera i used the address bar and put a g infront of my search
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -2/+28And it's motion.
And it's it's not its.
And the first letter of a sentence must be capitalized.
You all get an F. - bonzooznob, on 09/05/2008, -12/+36Item #7 is bunk. You *CAN* drag a tab/window back into any set you want. - That is one of the coolest features of Chrome.
- glucoseboy, on 09/05/2008, -2/+24I like Chrome so far. It loads in a blink and is quite fast in loading pages. However, as pointed out in the article, bookmark management is horrible. Also, the pop-up blocker stays on the page. it should go away after a few moments.
- shutaro, on 09/05/2008, -9/+27Lasers.
- jabon13, on 09/05/2008, -3/+20IETab for the few sites that still don't support anything but IE. (Like my work's Intranet)
- Jwoey, on 09/05/2008, -1/+19its hear hear, btw.
- Doomsdalicious, on 09/05/2008, -1/+16I want to be able to login to chrome so it will save my bookmarks across computers. And no, I don't want to have to install a Google toolbar to do this.
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -4/+20Mouse Gestures.
- dabura, on 09/05/2008, -0/+15Your kids will be Pokemons.
- Ravatar, on 09/05/2008, -0/+15Yeah what the hell is this guy going on about?
"So yea basically remove the omni-bar and give me a search box instead" translates to: Put everything back as it is on some other browsers because I can't deal with change. - Asvetic, on 09/05/2008, -4/+17Here, Here! I second that notion.
- dtraneighty8, on 10/07/2008, -2/+14In the URL:
Hold shift+Enter makes it .net
Hold shift+ctrl+Enter makes it .org
They have .com down though. (Hold Ctrl+Enter) - BenO169, on 09/05/2008, -0/+12You'll have shiny children.
- AirRaven, on 09/05/2008, -0/+10That's a feature- it's actually the popup window itself, kept out of view. Drag it up, and you'll see.
It stops a popup blocker breaking the site. Brilliant idea, I'd say. - Durinthal, on 09/05/2008, -0/+10If they allow plugins (which is the current plan) it's going to happen; it's just a matter of time and won't be directly integrated.
- RudeTurnip, on 09/05/2008, -2/+11Go to the Options Menu and click "Show Home Button on the Toolbar."
- Xanium4332, on 09/05/2008, -0/+10I'm sorry, do you realise how much effort they had to put in to make it use processes instead of threads, and WHY they did that?
- Durinthal, on 09/05/2008, -0/+9I had already changed Firefox to work that way, so it was nice to not have to reconfigure Chrome at all in that regard.
- d1sturbdapeace, on 09/05/2008, -2/+10Options>Basic Tab>Check "Show Home Button on the Toolbar"
- hectord27, on 09/05/2008, -1/+10I think that one of the reasons why Chrome is so fast is because of the lack of extra plug-ins and extensions...
- RobotKeaton, on 09/05/2008, -2/+10How about a working autoscroll? Mine doesn't go up on Chrome.
- ashura001, on 09/05/2008, -0/+9Appearently you've never won a free Nintento Wii.
- sirber, on 09/05/2008, -1/+10your intranet is scary
- citizenchan, on 09/05/2008, -2/+10And with any luck, this beta will last 4 years like gmail!
- pyroguy56011, on 09/05/2008, -0/+8Right click the URL bar>Edit search engines
You can make any search you want in a snap, and give it any command you want. Right now, if I go to the bar and type in "imdb michael clayton" it'll instantly pop up a search of Michael Clayton on IMDb for me. Best search feature I've ever encountered, no need to dumb it down. - Culyt, on 09/05/2008, -0/+8Personally I need mouse gestures, been using them since the Opera days and now use the Firefox plugins.
Also I need a decent adblock. Adblock plus on Firefox is awesome, then add the filterset.g blocklist updater and you don't even need to block ads, they are just gone.
Havn't actually used Chrome since I'm under Linux. - renegadeafk, on 09/05/2008, -0/+8as well as working touchpad scroll.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 09/05/2008, -1/+9Microsoft sells tons of ads too and they have no problem supporting browser extensions that block ads.
- BoneStamp, on 09/05/2008, -0/+8I thought I was the only one. BFF
- wakkow, on 09/05/2008, -1/+8Ads aren't their main revenue stream unlike Google.
- brundlefly76, on 09/05/2008, -1/+8My list:
1. Fixed touchpad support ( a lot of touchpad users cant scroll up, and down is way too fast)
2. Ability to put the tab bar *underneath* the bookmark bar.
3. Better video support (some third party video players choke occasionally)
4. Works with Kaspersky (alerts and odd behavior will result unless you change K settings)
5. plugins plugins plugins
You know, when Firefox came out, it was touted as the 'lean and mean browser' to fight 'IE bloat'. Soon after Firefox became slower and more resource-intensive than IE or Opera.
So, it will be interesting to see what happens to Chrome as features evolve.
Although Opera was the fastest, most standards-compliant, and most resource-miserly of the big 3 for a while, it had very small market share - its great the Google was so concerned with performance and stability first, but folks want their features. - Totz83, on 09/05/2008, -0/+7Well, if Chrome's spelling and grammar checker worked we wouldn't have this damn problem!
- Beatmiser, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6I'm sorry but complaining about the the Omnibox? Really, why even bother using Chrome??
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -4/+9I don't care so much for the middle click scrolling, but Web Developer would bring Chrome to near perfection.
Also, the author of this article is a ***** idiot. It HAS a basic session feature. Just go to the Options dialog, the Basic tab and under On Startup, select "Restore the pages that were open last".
Also, I have no problems dragging tabs back to the main window.
I sometimes wonder how "tech" writers keep their jobs. - BinaryFragger, on 09/05/2008, -1/+7"Ads are getting less obnoxious"
Really? Which Internet are you using??
A decade ago, sites had simple banner ads at the top or bottom of the page. The worst cases involved animated GIFs.
Now were bombarded with Flash ads with animation, sound and some that even expand and cover the entire page.
I don't feel bad for blocking these bandwidth-hogging, obnoxious ads, just as I don't feel bad for going to the kitchen for snack breaks during TV commercials. - grumpy1377, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6Master Password is needed to protect my precious *ahem* work related passwords!
- BoneStamp, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6In the last sentence of the paragraph it says that you "CAN" do it with tabs/windows... he's talking about applications.
- specialk2hz, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6As soon as Chrome has the "Magic Wand" feature opera has I will be switching. Opera has totally made me lazy when it comes to forms.
- Mithivh, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6They're basically saying they want Firefox with Chrome's speed
- mk3k, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5Beta is for testing, keeping something in beta for 4 years just seems stupid. It should be for short term testing or bug fixing.
- Echomote, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5go to http://www.google.com/talk/
and launch the web client, and try and put it in a tab -
