- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+32Yea, explorer is awesome, what with its amazing 'one error during a file copy job and I terminate the entire job' features, and many more!
- dtd00d, on 10/11/2007, -5/+19...Well the obvious winner is DOS.
- Seraph787, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16directory opus is my favorite. Sleekest and most features rich without overkill.
http://www.gpsoft.com.au/ - praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -13/+26Call me crazy, but I happen to like Explorer. I'll give one of these a try, though, and see how it fares.
- vonskippy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Completely off topic, but.....
How ***** Lame are these hosting services?????????
It's midnight, it's been on Digg for less then 1 1/2 hours. What is the BIG ***** DEAL in making a web server that can actually host pages?????? - flessa, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9http://duggmirror.com/software/10_more_Windows_Explorer_alternatives_compared_and_reviewed/
- Spr0k3t, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Directory Opus has that feature. Recursive synchronize.
- rejoined, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Looks like the site is down. DuggMirror working for me:

- toothy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Long time Dopus user since v4 on AMiGA...currently v9 user on XP.
Makes using a windows pc almost bearable. - cgomez, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Ditto. I've loved it on XP and I'm looking to see how it works out since I hadn't used it since the move to Vista.
Lightweight and functional, highly recommend folks give it a try. - tnatharik, on 10/11/2007, -6/+8AccelMan

WinBrowser - HellboundPyro, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Total Commander (formerly Windows Commander) is the single most useful piece of software I have ever used, I grew up with it and now I can't use a computer without it, its incredibly useful and efficient, I highly recommend it to anyone. It is available at http://www.ghisler.com/
- psxman, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I'll agree with the dude who said Nautilus, but back in the Windows days I used a file manager called xplorer².
- kaizer1911, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2True man, so true.
- rejoined, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Thanks and much appreciated, Spr0k3t. :) Also, found the link to it on the top.

- BiakAtMacDotCom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1eh eh. I used it on my Amiga 1200. Was great.
I was disappointed when I tried it recently on Windows :( - Kinjiru, on 10/11/2007, -5/+6Total Commander (formerly Windows Commander) FTW!!
- salmonmoose, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Dopus 9 is pretty slick under Vista - just the new path bar is worth the upgrade :)
- surfing, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That's what I use on my "smart" phone - kicks ass.
- MavRevMatt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I can't read the replies to my comment because of this damn new comment system.
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -0/+1What about my crazy?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Usually because Explorer 'fits in' better. That tends to be my reason.
- mashw, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1File explorers mate, not internet browsers.
I don't know why someone would need a file explorer separate from the built in one I'm sure there's a reason, someone care to tell me? - Urusai, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3That was the bomb...on my Amiga 500. Maybe I'll download a copy of OctaMED while I'm riding the nostalgia highway...
- gertin, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5Total Commander!
- Toupee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1UltraExplorer
Not a very exciting name, but this app has breadbox(breadcrumb?) navigation, a favorite links pane, a handy 'drop stack' for organizing lots of items, and a fast in-folder search. Granted it's not the loveliest thing, but it's not THAT bad looking. It's very customizable.
Oh yeah, here's a screen shot of how I configured it if you want to see: http://www.hell-toupee.com/chestnuts/images/Ultraexplorer.png
Truth be told, I actually love Vista's new file manager. And it has a slight advantage in that it's integrated (obviously) into open/save dialogs. Man, why isn't there an awesome open-source file manager out there? Something with extensions like Firefox? Honestly? - snowball69, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'd second that emotion but I experienced an error part way through formulating my reply so had to abandon the entire comment ;)
- squegie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I've been using that for a while. It works really well. I use it to sync my windows laptop's "documents" directory with my linux (samba) documents directory.

Can't beat the breadcrumb bar and regex filter. Oh and it's free. - lastberserker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1No FAR Manager => no digg. How lame is that?!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Well.... OK. "Your Crazy"
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Apart from that, which I admit is ***** atrocious, I don't have any other qualms.
- burkay, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I like it as well. Sometimes it gets boring but whenever I try some other "explorer" I happen to come back to windows explorer sooner or later.
- Tippis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Ah, the only reprieve for old-time Norton (and Midnight) Commander addicts :D
- roberthazelby, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I couldn't agree more. I begged my workplace to buy this for their staff but they refused. In the end I ended up buying it myself and installing it on my work PC.
Everyone I show directory opus to walks away very impressed.
Now, if only they'd release a Mac version so I could have the PC version for work and the Mac version for home. - Mambo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I rather like using the xplorer^2. It has some weird quirks, but nothing big enough to make me want to find something new. And, its customizable enough so that you can change the program pretty drastically. Oh, and 2 panes are nice.

- crimpshrine, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1No Total Commander in this list? pfft
Total Commander (as others have said, formerly Windows Commander) is hands down the best. And it has been around longer then any on the list above.
Was using ZTree for windows (XTGold dos clone) before I came upon Windows commander many years ago.
Use it for a month, take a look at the numerous plugins available for it, you will never want to use another file manager.
You can get 2 hours worth windows explorer file management done in probably 30 minutes with Total Commander.
- brionnach, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Another one not mentioned here is an Australian product named FileDoyen:
http://www.filedoyen.com/ - chuckycheese, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Dude, that unreal commander is a total ripoff of the great
Total Commander! (Unreal Commander ->V 0.9something, Total Commander -> V 7.01)

http://www.altap.cz/ - rejoined, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2This is a request. Anybody knows of a good file manager utility or a sync tool which syncs files and folders? Something like Laplink, which has a explorer like interface.
Any recommendations or suggestions would be appreciated. :) -
