- AlanCayce, on 02/05/2009, -3/+30Am I still on Digg? The comments... What the *****??
- AlanCayce, on 02/05/2009, -1/+28I don't know how to respond to this...
- inactive, on 02/05/2009, -3/+28all of it require only 50 2TB hard disks.
- splobk, on 02/05/2009, -0/+19Are you serious?
- skywake, on 02/05/2009, -0/+19Damn straight, when did Digg become youtube?
- BaconExplosion, on 02/05/2009, -0/+17I'm stuck at 0.02%
- taketaketake, on 02/05/2009, -2/+19go back to youtube?
- inactive, on 02/05/2009, -4/+21the "bird's eye" view is incredibly detailed compared to google.
- solidus636, on 02/05/2009, -4/+18Dude...shut up.
- sq2shooter, on 02/05/2009, -2/+14I honestly have never tried Virtual Earth. Now I know why. "Sorry but 3D is not supported with your browser". I'm using Firefox. WTF?
- Schmich, on 02/05/2009, -1/+11I wonder how many TB Google Earth is at now.
- RSAgent007, on 02/05/2009, -0/+10Bird's Eye wasn't meant to be a competitor to StreetView. Bird's Eye imagery, from what I understand, is taken from planes, while StreetView is taken by cars.
Each have their advantages and disadvantages. For general directionality, Bird's Eye view is a nice blend between the top-down view and a isometric view that gives you more building detail. - Okinsley, on 02/05/2009, -1/+10you spelled immediately wrong buddy.
- GMH24, on 02/05/2009, -0/+7Yeah man, it's like we were invaded by Reddit users or something.
- Swivelstick, on 02/05/2009, -0/+7I'd say that was a rather appropriate response.
- Swivelstick, on 02/05/2009, -2/+9People still bite syntaxgs, you're my hero :)
- jakem1, on 02/05/2009, -2/+9Microsoft generally have much better quality satellite/aerial imagery than Google. The only problem is that here in the UK they've completely broken their Live Maps app and replaced it with multimap which is seriously crap. It's a real shame because I end up using Google Maps instead because it's easier to get to.
- inactive, on 02/05/2009, -1/+8i am talking about aerial view.
- qwertydvorak, on 02/05/2009, -1/+7is there a spell check still ? i no longer have the link for it....
- StormTroopr, on 02/05/2009, -0/+6I don't think I know how reply works.
- ripple123, on 02/05/2009, -3/+9so there better than google earth in every way except the way it most needs to be better than google earth. as in, exist.
- Auzy, on 02/05/2009, -1/+6I'm learning to fly currently, and this is MUCH better quality then google earth around Melboune Victoria..
Will certainly make things a lot easier to find whilst flying (some maps really suck, so I get an idea of what I'll be looking for beforehand google earth normally) - Visarga, on 02/05/2009, -1/+6What an irony that they'd choose an image of Bucharest to showcase this update, when Bucharest is left out of the "civilized world" - there is no mapping data for this 2 million people city, together with Kiev (capital of Ukraine) and Belgrade (capital of Serbia). What the ***** is Google doing? Too cheap to buy the vector data? I can't use my legally bought iPhone's Maps app because there are no streets in my city, according to Google.
Google - will you get on with this and add the vector data? It already exists. You can buy it from a plethora of small GPS outfits. - qwertydvorak, on 02/05/2009, -1/+6as much as people bash ms, they have been on the front of this type of thing for years. does anybody remember terraserver ?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TerraServer-USA
we are talking 10 years ago. as much as i like using google mail and maps and everything else, msn maps still has the ariel view (isometric photo) which is much better than google maps at close view. google has the street view which i love, but ms is not totally slacking. - inactive, on 02/05/2009, -3/+8The point is, Myztry that 99.99999% of hte population of this planet does not care about the middle of the Atlantic
You can be a Google fanboy all you want, but Bird's Eye View is VERY useful, and Google doesn't have it. (And don't embarrass yourself with Street View. That is a useless novelty, and it not in nearly as many areas as Bird's Eye View.) - robrohan, on 02/05/2009, -1/+6Hum... I choose 3D and nothing happens. This internet application on the world wide web doesn't seem to work with my operating system and browser, what a shame. Back to google I guess.
- ripple123, on 02/05/2009, -0/+5thats a lot of backdoors.
- robrohan, on 02/05/2009, -0/+4Ocean data is useful for sailors.
A friend of mine is a captain of a diving boat, and he has windows only software that he uses to map out where to take his passengers for dives. I don't see how Google earth (or Virtual earth) could possibly replace that application, but there you go. - arunforce, on 02/05/2009, -1/+5Keep your fanboyism to yourself.
- NomortaL1, on 02/05/2009, -0/+4your computer can store less than 0.5% of that size
- Charklii, on 02/05/2009, -1/+5Nope.. I just saw someone complaining about the comments... definitely still Digg.
- zooto68, on 02/05/2009, -1/+5I live in the UK near London, one of the areas supposed to have recevied an update, and yet the views of my house and garden are still about 4 years old.
- ripple123, on 02/05/2009, -1/+5yeah street view is awesome, i can get the number of the local pizza place when i forget it and its name.
- Myztry, on 02/05/2009, -4/+8Still can't find my workplace (by business name) or house (by address). Useless.
I'll be fine with Google Maps thank you. I'd thought they'd put putting up Ocean data.
But apparently they are no where near that stage. - BaconExplosion, on 02/05/2009, -1/+4How about this:
72,817,778 1.44M floppies
(give or take) - floort, on 02/05/2009, -0/+3But MS data is so old. Compare Dubai with Google Maps. Microsoft doesn't even have the golf course and Palm islands. Better imagery but too old.
- GarrettGrimsley, on 02/05/2009, -0/+3Trolled
- chillymanilli, on 02/05/2009, -1/+4I'm interested so only another 64999 people to find
- Myztry, on 02/05/2009, -1/+4The Ocean <> middle of the Atlantic
That's like saying you are an *****. That's only part of you... - cloudberries, on 02/05/2009, -1/+4Jesus H Christ. I didn't even know such fanatical Google fanboyism was possible!
- Gonasadude, on 02/06/2009, -0/+3No respectable datacenter is using 2TB HDDs atm, because they haven't been proven reliable enough.
- onsenguy, on 02/05/2009, -0/+2The power of Google Earth/maps is in the multitude of layers and dynamic content that are continually added to.
Whenever people are coming from overseas or the east coast I can track their plane's progress in real time in Google Earth. I've seen earthquakes occur near my parent's-in-law's place in Japan before it even hits the news.
Yes, the isometric detail in Virtual Earth but that is about it. - Llanowar, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2Damn Microsoft.
They're so evil. Making their programs so big that no one can use it!
/s - mbradbury, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2It's than not then
- BHSPitMonkey, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2"Will certainly make things a lot easier to find whilst flying"
Man, and I thought people who text while they drive were bad. - sq2shooter, on 02/07/2009, -0/+2Well then, they are even more stupid than I originally thought. What a brilliant marketing strategy. It is no wonder they are losing market share in just about everything they sell. Congrats Microsoft, Virtual Earth is now the first internet site I can't go to based on my OS. Brilliant.
- SteveMax, on 02/05/2009, -0/+2How much would that be in Libraries of the Congress?
- Myonosken, on 02/05/2009, -0/+2Hate to break it to you, but Microsoft have been doing online aerial photography maps for about ten years. Look up terraserver.
