- danjwray, on 03/18/2009, -1/+13Front page? I'm from Scotland, and I like football, but why is this on the front page?
Oh, it was submitted by a guy who has managed to digg 48,280 stories in 15 months. This place is a joke. - JustJoe4Life, on 03/18/2009, -0/+6FYI: They're the same thing.
- Fishn2, on 03/18/2009, -0/+6They've been dominating since 1890.
Why should it change now? - chrissku, on 03/18/2009, -0/+5I think it's fair to say that everyone is now bracing for hard times.
- AmericanGunner, on 03/18/2009, -0/+5Like anyone believes the spl will go on for years to come with the way celtic and rangers are in their league.
- Cannonballkid, on 03/18/2009, -1/+6Thats becasue the SPL is just a glorified race to see whehter Celtic or Rangers will come in first. I really would love to see another team like Ivderness or Aberdeen make a run for the championship. It can be done look at the TSH Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga a little team that came out of nowhere and held the top spot for the first part of the season. These managers should work on getting young talent and then make the challenge against the big two...
- krellor, on 03/18/2009, -1/+6Speaking of ridiculous, when is digg going to get a reply feature...
- speckyboy, on 03/18/2009, -0/+4So, if we did want Celtic (possibly) and rangers (no,chance) to join the EPL, we would need the SPL and SFL to go bust, thus having no pro league. Going by this article, that might be reality.
This is a first, Scottish Football on the FP of Digg, long may it continue! - brownsound00, on 03/18/2009, -0/+4I've been saying for years to move celtic and rangers into the EPL. The only problem is that there is a Euro rule that says you (as in a team) can't join another country's league unless there is no professional team in your country. So in the case of Cardiff City from Wales, they can join the EPL because Wales doesn't have a pro league.
Celtic and Rangers are stuck tho, cuz they don't have any competition in the SPL, thus why they can't do anything at the champs league with other pro teams. So, it'd be nice to seem them in the FA Cup, or a combined britain, wales, scots cup. - meruru, on 03/18/2009, -0/+3How exactly did a story about Scottish football remind you of this?
- Tenlow, on 03/18/2009, -0/+3We're one of the only countries to call handegg "football".
- theysayjump, on 03/18/2009, -0/+3I'm sure there'd be quite a nice chunk of change to be lost by the smaller teams if the Old Firm left Scotland, since the smaller teams would lose out on the thousands and thousands of travelling supporters that the Old Firm bring with them.
On the other hand, I'd be quite happy if the bigoted, sectarian ***** who claim to follow either of the Old Firm teams went elsewhere. Those people we can do without. - brownsound00, on 03/18/2009, -1/+4Ah well, at least it's football on the front page eh?
- sluddy, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2ken ken. Fit like loons?
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2This reminds me of joke in honor of St. Patty's day.
A guys walks into a bathroom at the bar he hangs out a lot. He walks up to the only open urinal and starts to pee. There is a midget peeing next to him. The guy, not to be gay or anything, just curious takes a glance over at the midgets junk and is astonished to see that the midget is packing a 12 in dong. The guy is so flabbergasted that he blurts out.
"I'm not gay or anything mister but I gotta tell you that that is the biggest dick I've ever seen."
"Well" the midget says "That's because I'm a Leprechaun and I simply wished for myself to have this huge dick and it came true."
"Holy *****!" The guys says. "Do you think you could hook me up with a huge dick like that? It would go over pretty well with the ladies."
"Sure" The midget says. "But you've got to do one thing for me and we've got a deal."
"Anything" the man replies
"Well, I happen to be one of the few gay leprechauns in the world and I've gotta say you are one cute bastard. I want to take you in that stall over there and make sweet love to you."
The man is reluctant to say the least, but visions of porn stardom are dancing in his head so he agrees to the leprechauns deal. The leprechaun then proceeds to ream the man's ass for a solid twenty minutes. Upon the completion of the sordid act the man exclaims...
"Holy *****, I can't believe I just let you ***** me in the ass!"
To which the midget calmly replies:
"I can't believe you believe in leprechauns." - JakeyG14, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2min*
- SarcasticEye, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2I never thought I'd see the day that Scottish league football found itself on the front page of digg, and its a pretty crappy story to say the least. Ah well, mon the jags!
- Fishn2, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2Less money in the game can only be a good thing.
Until all the talent moves down south. - Ridesabike, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2Pure quality man.
- Beveridge89, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2The problem is there's too much money in England at the moment. Five or so years ago Rangers and Celtic had a wage bill amongst the highest in the UK; now they struggle to compete with even modest Premiership teams. This all means the rest of the SPL can't begin to compete with even the English First Division to attract players, unless they have a chance at European football.
- serif69, on 03/18/2009, -1/+2You won't make any friends by speaking ill of any of those teams.
- IvenomI, on 03/18/2009, -5/+6Dugg for Scots!
- partysan, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1Don't be silly. Just because Hoffenheim has young players you never heard of, doesn't mean their market value is next to nothing. Their core players are mostly well above 5 million pounds. You find me a Hibernian player worth that much. Here is a comparison for you:
http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/verein/533/tsg-1 ...
Hoffenheim
http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/verein/903/hiber ...
Hibernian - Cannonballkid, on 03/18/2009, -1/+2If they had any worthwhile talent than two teams would not continually dominate 1st and 2nd place. I wouldn't call any of the other SPL teams talented in the least. You've missed my point what I'm saying is they need to change their scouting practices becasue the players these teams are getting are not good and say they do get something well the chance of that player ending up in Celtic or Rangers is not a question of how but when (Boyd,McDonald, Nacho Novo...). What this league needs is a team like Hull or Hoffenheim who can come up and challenge the big teams.
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1I for one am willing to helpout .... i'll talk some Single malt Scotch on the rocks please.. doin what I can oooooo yaaa
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1It really didn't I just typed it on another page and wanted to put it on the front page so every one can read it. It's a good joke.
- Fishn2, on 03/18/2009, -1/+2Och aye.
- theysayjump, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1Being a Hibs fan I'm tired of the Old Firm snatching up our youngsters for a couple of million (sometimes less), then not even playing them, letting the kids move on to somewhere else and then you never hear from them again.
It's also our own fault for letting them go when they still have years on their contract, but it's a vicious cycle that's been happening for years. - AmericanGunner, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1If you take away celtic and rangers, what would it do to the league? I really dont have as much knowledge towards the spl as I do the epl so correct me if im wrong but it would take them out of the small world spotlight it has. (i.e. rangers/celtic in the uefa cup/champions league) I guess it would be good for the 'old boys' but the league would probably die.
- sluddy, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1Thanks! We're just keeping it real, loving life.
- Ridesabike, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzgZteJ9pUo
- MrChunks, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1What's brown, smelly and sounds like a bell?
DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNG! - HanSolo69, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1Thought this was going to be an Onion article about how Irish clubs fall on hard time 364 out of 365 days of the year.
- Ridesabike, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Haha! Jakey!
jaked right oot yir nut - sickbag69, on 03/18/2009, -0/+0Change their scouting practice? Do you think they're all just sitting around doing nothing? How exactly do they change their scouting practices, and how do you know what their scouting practices are just now?
- Ridesabike, on 03/18/2009, -1/+1YASS!
- UK31337, on 03/18/2009, -0/+0I'm Scottish and the SPL absolutely blows. It really is just toss a coin to see which of Celtic or Rangers will win a given Cup or win the league each year. It's a joke.
The Old Firm don't need all that money. Back in the old days, if you scored a single goal against Celtic chances are Celtic would probably try and buy you. Uncompetitive and unfair, hopefully if the money runs out for the big two then it will cut their player budgets and they won't keep buying up all these stars and unbalancing the league.
I'm all for taking all the money out of football and turning it back into the good working class game that it was in the 1960s and 70s. Given all the money these players are paid, the standard isn't as good as the old days either, plus seeing all these overpaid, undertalented thickos zipping around in Ferraris is ridiculous. - Gerakis100, on 03/31/2009, -0/+0The League needs a salary cap, it may be unfair to Celtic and Rangers who want to compete in Europe but something needs to be done to help the smaller teams be able to compete for a title and keep their finances in check
- JakeyG14, on 03/18/2009, -1/+1*lifts up kilt to reveal naked behind*
- UK31337, on 03/18/2009, -0/+0Yeah, I agree with the people who say that Celtic and Rangers should play in the English Premiership instead of the SPL. It will spice up the English league and make the SPL more balanced, competitive and fair.
Either that or the SFA rein the Old Firm clubs in with new rules somehow. - partysan, on 03/18/2009, -1/+1Hoffenheim had great financial backing from Dietmar Hopp. You could say they bought their way into the Bundesliga. So, to do what Hoffenheim did, Scottish teams would need lots of money. And that is exactly the opposite of what the article is about.
- cloudberries, on 03/18/2009, -2/+1Dugg for "Dugg for Scots"
Hurrah! - sickbag69, on 03/18/2009, -2/+1Cannonballkid, I'm pretty sure they're all working on getting young talent already. Your conclusion is ridiculous
- sammyscraggs, on 03/18/2009, -9/+1let Rangers nd Celtic join the premier league and be done with it ..... who cares about kilmarnic or ***** hibs ????
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -10/+2Wow they might actually have to play the game because they enjoy it and for competitions sake if those sponsorships dry up. Can you imagine that *****? An athlete playing because he likes the sport lolz
Edit: ***** soccer. - unyuzyall, on 03/18/2009, -15/+1Oh, this story is about SOCCER, not football.

What is Digg?
