- michuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Quite a surprise and a lot of joy for the Polish and Ukrainian nations. Lots of investments are coming which is really essential since Poland has currently neither European-standard stadiums nor highways to handle the extraordinary traffic. Hopefully this big chance won't be wasted.
- Dayz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25rather live in a third world country and know that its corrupt then live in USA where the dumb people wont admit there country is corrupt
- Ancestor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Oh goodie.
Nothing like hearing a stereotypical American (or wherever you're from), who thinks everything besides the US and maybe a couple other countries he can name is Third World and who has no idea about the most popular sport on the planet. - czechman86, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Ukraine and Poland are not third world countries, and both are safe countries with a lot to offer. I have lived in Ukraine and must say it was the best time of my life.
- manifestdata, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Ulisses don't be mad, Portugal will stop sucking at soccer one day.
- lukychmz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13It amazes me that theres always some ignorant dick that comments to start arguments over race.........on topic congrats to Poland and Ukraine
- Dayz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14I'm Polish and proud, woot!
- khatarnaak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10What a bunch of American idiots. Football isn't shifting anywhere - the European championships is rotated from country to country within Europe like the World Cup, or the Olympics. It's like saying the Olympics has shifted to China!
Also, eastern Europe isn't exactly your forgotten third world. Aynone who says else is a dumb twit.
P.S. the next nobel prize winner in chemistry will almost certainly be of eastern european descent (Matyjaszewski) - shiola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I think it's a great choice, plus Italy lost out, which underlines that football corruption and violence won't be tolerated even if you are the world champions and a traditional power house in football. I'm sure all infrastruture will be done and if not, don't worry, Athens were still painting the swimming pool the day before the Olympics and the London Olympics is bound to be a last gasp affair.
I'm looking forward to the pre-tournament hype of the England team and their half-hearted display and early elimination already! ;) - TheDiceMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Its been long overdue that a Euros goes to the East.
- kaiser44, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I do not care for soccer, but good for them.
I dated a polish girl from Erie , PA.
very hot. - rnwen2750, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Yah Poland!
- jull1234, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7A perfect venue to take in the end times! Damn you Mayan calendar.
- banditski, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Who's gonna go for the football, and who's gonna go for the chicks?
- mlaskus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Third world countries? You obviously have no idea what that term means...
- Ellsass, on 11/05/2008, -0/+71. Your first statement doesn't imply the second; FIFA was going to go to South America in '14 anyway, and Brazil is the only bid.
2. Brazil isn't in Europe so they won't even be in this tournament.
3. Brazil *did* pwn, but not recently. First they need to figure out how to beat France in the World Cup. - czechman86, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8@Ulisses
What do you mean this is all they have to brag about. Ukraine is one of the oldest civilizations in Europe and contributed greatly to the over all growth of early post-Rome Europe. Also, many of the great literary and mathematical works have come out of Ukraine. These are just some of the things that the peoples of Ukraine have to be proud of. I would comment on Poland, but I am unfamiliar with the area. - martynda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm sure how well the Ukraine did well in the world cup and the support the fans showed also has something to do with it.
Ironically, I'm writing this wearing a Ukraine Shevchenko national jersey, which I put on before I read this awesome news. - Dayz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Jaga Jaga Jaga Goal!!!!
- mlaskus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Oh, I've almost forgotten...
Education was always top-notch in eastern Europe...
It surely by far surpasses that in the US :D - RealHyperX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Kurwa mac - Polska wygrala!!!
- kTeter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5yakschemasch! High five!
- Biskino, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Huh? I would have thought Scottish citizens would welcome the opportunity to expand their gene pool - but maybe this comes too late for the likes of you.
I'm sooooo tired of hearing people in the UK b*tch about Polish workers.
Why would you be declined benefit if you 'worked all your life'?
If they 'work the bare minimum', then why do people hire them?
If they work 'off the books' then how are they going to get benefits? If they're cheating then why don't people turn them in - along with those who are hiring them (the National Benefit Fraud Hotline is: 0800 854 440).
And finally: If you hate it so much in Scotland where your obviously getting such an incredibly raw deal then why don't you grow a pair. Sell up everything you own and move to a new country to start over, you'll see how easy it is.
Oh, and congrats Poland and Ukrane - looking forward to watching England win over there! - Reidar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I hope that we will manage to finish all the investments (i.e. stadiums, roads, hotels etc.) on time.
I'm not a soccer fan but it's good for our economy.
cheers - TomaszD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4They say that arguing over the Internet is like competing in special olympics booozeninja. So I won't. This will suffice. ***** you.
Back to the topic: hurray! - M4v3R, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5booze: I bet that You don't even know where Poland lies. Or 90% other countries.
- VodkanLemons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Україна !!!
- urgan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@anubis2051
If any idiot can play soccer, why can't americans ? - Zique, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm not surprised some people don't have the mental capacity and patience to watch soccer, but not to have the mental capacity to realize how much intelligence is involved is a whole other story. You can go on watching small time events like Superbowl, I'm more happy to watch a sport with actual global audience and competition.
- Ancestor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6@mlaskus
The education here is fine, thank you very much. It's still the middle of Europe for Christ's sake, I think you may be confusing Eastern Europe with deep Russia or something. But don't worry, many people do. You really should come by one day. - DisembarkedOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@M4v3R
speak for yourself buddy... - Psywar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think that this event will be a great leap for those two countrys wich will force them to build new infraestructures that they will surely use in the future, and is also a way to atract more turists. Congrats to Poland and Ukraine.
- TheDiceMan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4And we all know which nation they belong too ;)
CAN-I-GET-AN-AMEN? - kaczus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Surely, Satan felt the chill...
- T3CK, on 10/12/2007, -10/+12Polska najlepsza jest ;-)
C , C , CWK, CWKS, LEGIA - SimonGray, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3First World = Industrialised world sans the Eastern Bloc
Second World = Communist Eastern Bloc
Third World = Everyone else
Poland and Ukraine would be _former_ second world countries. The distinction between 3 different "worlds" is old-fashioned and silly these days anyway... - cainpitt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2and gets dugg up no less so there are other dicks who agree, on a comment that has nothing to do with the article. Xenophobia at it's finest.
- crunchystrike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Oh goodie!!!!!!!!!!!1.
Now we can go to the third world that civilization forgot and watch a bunch of over paid bitch-men moan, whine, prance around and dive all over a manicured pitch."
Shut the hell up trailer trash. I lived in Ukraine for 7 years, and it isn't a third world country. Go back to 8th grade and retake history again.
Oh and cezchman, good too see someone that lived there as well - Kabooblabla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yep, both countries will host Euro Cup and i hope they will work together and won't lose this common chance to develop bonds and infrastructures. I personnaly don't know that much these countries (excepted the essential), neither generally Eastern Europe, so may be it will be an occasion to go and visit there and discover people and culture. Only one advice anyway when the emotion will lowen : be happy, but wait everything to be built before telling you are proud about it. Today, it's only a non sense to be proud about something that yet doesn't exist excepted written on papers. Or maybe your are proud about being chosen and having beaten three other fellow competitors (Italy and Hungaria/Croatia) ???? Respect them and they will respect you.
- kayakto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lately we have quite a lot reasons to be proud to be polish
- fatganz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Україна + Polska = Roolez Forever! :)
- Anubis2051, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1My Icon is a NEW YORK YANKEES logo, probably the last thing any redneck would have, and I live in ***** jersey, pretty far from red neck country.
- jayzeus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3You're an idiot that obviously doesn't have any idea of what's goning on in the world. But I guess the whole EU must be a thirld world entity then...
But on the serious side. I'd suggest reading, or maybe visit any of those countries? If you can't afford it, simply learning about them, seeing the culture, meeting the people from there? It really won't hurt you.
Other than that, I'll say that you're very ignorant. - Jerky1312, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If you really didn't like soccer, you should have simply skipped over this article. That being said, I think Italy would have gotten the honor of hosts, had it not been for the scandels and stadium riots that occured over the past couple of years. Usually after a team wins a world cup, they are rewarded as hosts. They also have the infrastructure and quality stadiums for the event, but they made a good decision by not awarding Italy, solely for the scandels and stadium trouble. Poland and Ukraine are also very deserving, as both nations have done very well recently in their international compaigns. I wish them much success with this honor.

i think Croatia & Hungary deserved the win (i'm not from either country).
they have better infrastructure and overall developement and can handle a big event with some investing. - gabyandjonny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm sure it'll be a great tournament, whoever hosts it
- gedawid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@Biskino: you were doing well until your last sentence. ;)
