- RlAA, on 03/04/2009, -1/+251.) Good question! Unfortunately I lack the knowhow to answer your question, though I do appreciate your enthusiasm.
2.) RTFA - soccerman90, on 03/04/2009, -0/+17it was during shoot outs, so he had time while his team mates were taking their shots. I dont see how using an ipod during a break is any different than looking at a clip board with info on it
- RlAA, on 03/04/2009, -2/+18I certainly hope he did not illegally download the clips he reviewed.
>=) - Nistelrooy, on 03/04/2009, -0/+122) There is no law against using an ipod or clipboard during a break specified in the rulebook. This rule would probably be judged by the Champion's League rule, which I highly doubt that it is illegal.
- PiRATE7, on 03/04/2009, -3/+151) how does he have time to whip out an ipod?
2) is that legal in soccer? - ZeroCubed, on 03/04/2009, -0/+12Oh dear, I can just see headlines of a new app for that purpose...
- inactive, on 03/04/2009, -0/+9Should HAVE? Terrible idea anyway.
- kesin, on 03/04/2009, -1/+9Same way American Football players have print outs of the the previous play when theyre on the sidelines.
- Tonkdaddy14, on 03/04/2009, -1/+9He had the time because there is a break between extra time and the penalty kick shootout, it wasn't during live play and he did not have it in during the shootout.
- tk0680, on 03/04/2009, -0/+5VDS is the first choice, yes, but this is the competition that nobody really cares about. Man Utd played their youth/fringe players the whole way through as a method of getting them some exposure and experience.
- CoD4, on 03/04/2009, -1/+5mi scusi
- bonjourmr, on 03/04/2009, -0/+4At the end of the day, the side/area the player kicks the ball to is made ***** 5 seconds before it happens - the iPod can only help with what has happened in the past. It might work ok against ordinary players with no creativity and don't mix it up for different goalkeepers but we're talking world class here - he got lucky and picked the right side.
- dandonia, on 03/04/2009, -0/+4Dude, "goaltenders" really?
- rockon4life45, on 03/04/2009, -10/+13MANCHESTER UNITED IS GREATEST FOOTBALL TEAM IN THE WORLD
/quote from eurotrip - tk0680, on 03/04/2009, -0/+3Nope, it's a game invented before hockey. Could we have our terms back please?
- tk0680, on 03/04/2009, -1/+4We're not talking world class. We're talking Tottenham.
*ducks* - Cannonballkid, on 03/04/2009, -0/+3Hmm the person who wrote this prob didn't even watch the Carling Cup as there is no mention of it in the article. Tottenham didn't even practice penalties before hand United did and that's why they won.
- dandonia, on 03/04/2009, -0/+3United won because spurs had no one capable of taking pens on the pitch and because their keeper was smart enough to do his homework at "school".
Man U keep pulling out little tricks, it's fun to watch. Like that corner from Rooney a month back. The one whee Ronaldo scored then they had to retake it because the linesmen wasn't doing his job right. So they scored again. The thing is, cos Man U do it, its a scummy trick where as if a lower leveled club pulled it off, it would be innovative.
Like how a couple of months back Benitez was complaining because Fergi was moaning about 8 matches in a month. Now Liverpool have fallen he is bitching about the same thing. - rockon4life45, on 03/04/2009, -0/+3You guys are on a hole 'nother level of swearing over here.
- tk0680, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2Fair enough, but let's say Spurs won it. Would anyone then consider them a nation-beating club? Not a chance, whereas you could expect that of the league winners.
- fabkebab, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2Well done Ben - I thought the idea was quite clever!
- TexMexRex, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2The article does not say if he whipped it out on the field in the heat of the moment, or over on the sidelines waiting his turn. I'll guess the later as I'm guessing t was left out to make the article more interesting. Putting iPod in the title of any article gets major play.
- fsufanizzle, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2Why?
- tk0680, on 03/04/2009, -0/+21988? Really?
Be ashamed. - andrew918, on 03/04/2009, -1/+3I don't care what he was watching, that was an incredible big save
- nomadxx7, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2Definitely keep a lot of people on their toes if they are used to certain techniques or moves.
- totomaster, on 03/04/2009, -2/+4The ipod didnt do *****. Some players switch up their penalty kicks all the time. Foster just got lucky.
- dandonia, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2If coughing while in the audience at a game show can land you in jail, I'm damn sure cheating in football can be. Either way, the refs can financially punish you so I guess thats already been decided.
- dandonia, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2Don't be an idiot all your life. If he hadn't personally re-watched the clip, fergie (his manager) would have and advised him on what to do.
What I can't understand is why the refs don't allow camera footage. In the same match Ronaldo go booked for diving when the video footage clearly showed contact was made. Teams are fighting it out for championships (huge pots of cash) and we can't even trust the refs to enforce the rules. - Phillycat81, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2Yeah, there's an app for that.
- rexxhunt, on 03/04/2009, -1/+2so i tell the swamp donkey to sack it, before i give her a trunk in the tradesman's entrance, and have 'er lick lick me yarbles
- PullingTeeth, on 03/04/2009, -0/+1TexMex: Foster didn't pull it out at all. It was the goaltender's coach's idea, his iPod, he had the footage of the Spurs player shooting. Foster watched it while it was his team's turn to shoot in the penalty kicks. No law has *yet* been established, but it might be prohibited after this.
- kcchan1, on 03/04/2009, -1/+2Um, isn't Edwin van der Sar the goalkeeper for Manchester United? This guy is just the backup guy.
- AJRiddle, on 03/04/2009, -1/+2They have been doing this in baseball for years now
- astyguy, on 03/04/2009, -0/+1he could of got rick rolled by the coach !
- zerosixtyseven, on 03/04/2009, -1/+2What's this idiotic *****. He just watched a video on the 15 min break. Whether on a tv in the changing rooms or ipod or even if someone told him from the team that said striker shoots left or right it doesnt make any diference.
"Ipod makes the save..."
Well it's LA. - Napiertt, on 03/04/2009, -1/+2Bratislava!
- inactive, on 03/05/2009, -0/+1i really doubt, using i-pod made any difference
completely agreed with zerosixtyseven - shalinshaun, on 04/03/2009, -0/+0"Football is a result business" now i know why they say that.
- Elohir, on 03/04/2009, -1/+1"that nobody really cares about"
I think the clubs outside the top 10 would disagree with you on that.
There's more to life than Chelsea. :) - alexudy, on 04/30/2009, -0/+0He was using his brain right !
- inactive, on 03/24/2009, -0/+0come in my site:
http://travel-lets-go.blogspot.com/ - macse7en, on 03/06/2009, -0/+0well, case studies have proven that watching footage of your opponents lets you become aware of their style, he's smart
- kyle343, on 03/04/2009, -1/+1How? the people taking the penalties dont kick the ball to one side all the time for the reason that goalies study this kind of thing, by using an ipod it just refreshes his memory he could easily of done it all in the dressing room or before the match and still had the same outcome? sure if it gave him a 100% chance of the penalty striker hitting the ball to that side every side then it would be unfair but its not so ^^
- whytey, on 03/04/2009, -2/+1except it wasnt soccer
- borschwanger, on 03/04/2009, -5/+3how should this be allowed. i dont mind if people watch film outside of a game situation but immediately before the play makes it an unfair advantage.
- capachino, on 03/04/2009, -2/+0see how cool ipods are! i should get one now
- taubootis, on 03/04/2009, -3/+0this is not new, A Rod used an Ipod to get MVP in 2003
- unknownpoltroon, on 03/04/2009, -5/+1*****. He was watching "Soccer Moms Gone Wild" and we all know it.
- pcpimpster, on 03/04/2009, -7/+2I now should be able to use my ipod when icount cards in vegas = cheating = come prepared for the your 90 minutes *****-stick!
