- rufus2, on 04/15/2009, -0/+13Vidic has been solid most the season, although he had about as poor of a game you can have in their biggest PL game of the season v Liverpool. Earlier in the season it was Giggs' award to lose. If Gerrard could have had a healthy season he would have taken it. Aaron Lennon should win the young player award. Rafael da Silva has only played in 11 league games all season and makes the list... might as well have Macheda on there.
- RedHawk911, on 04/15/2009, -4/+12I hope Steven Gerrard wins, he's been outstanding this season. He is one of the best players in the world right now!
- Elohir, on 04/15/2009, -3/+9I would love to see Giggs take this.
To even be nominated is great, but to win it as a winger at his age would be a massive testament to his contribution to the game. - walgman, on 04/15/2009, -0/+4That is a very ignorant and stupid comment.
- Threlly1, on 04/15/2009, -1/+5Gerrard is the only one worthy of the award.
The greatest mid-fielder in the world, and a proven inspirational Captain.
Unlike the preening, show-boating Manchester United players, he's a model
of modesty. - AussieVesti, on 04/15/2009, -0/+3Even myself, a Newcastle United fan wouldn't even begin think of that being a possibility. Owen has been extremely unpredictable as a player this season with injury and clearly once again has not being consistent. Don't speak such rubbish.
- alistairlp, on 04/15/2009, -1/+4Because Owen has spent the best part of each of his last 3 seasons injured.
As a result he's not good enough or consistent enough to win an award highlighting him as the best player in the league. - nicc, on 04/15/2009, -1/+4this award is a joke.
the nominations and voting were done in February. not in April or May like it should in order to reflect on the whole season.
where is Ireland, Alonso, Hangeland, Schwarzer, Lescott, Jagielka? - valdet, on 04/15/2009, -0/+3These award selections are all joke. How come Rio is there, when he has been crooked for a good number of games. How come Lampard isn't in the list when he was the most consistent player throughout the season. Ronaldo has been ON-OFF all season.
For young players, how come Rafael Da Silva is even included in the list. The guy has barely played cameo appearances and he is included in front of Denilson? If we think by above logic, then Macheda has done a helll of lot more for ManU than Rafael did. - esssential, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2the team that's leading the prem league with a game at hand.
- Fountainhead76, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2Man Utd has 3 defensive players on the list - and don't even have the best GA average. The PFA has some explaining to do.
It's between Vidic and Gerrard but is a completely stupid award as it is voted on 2/3 of the way through a season. You would think that the players would know who the best ones are - and no way 5/6 of the best players in the Premier League are on Man Utd. Something is a mess. - RogerMcDodger, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2Voting is concluded in February and it is done by their peers. There is also no indication of how it is done, i.e saying "write in two player nominations" is a bit different than being given a list of all eligable players to consider. From a "fan of the game"'s perspective it shouldn't really be regarded as something to judge a player by. It is more an honour for the players.
- fastguyrules, on 04/15/2009, -1/+3Spot on, Gerrard has been out standing and he has really carried kept Liverpool at the top of their game this season. You will never walk alone.
- nicc, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1thats why Fulhams defense is the higher rated defense in the PL?
- esssential, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1they had like 13 clean sheets in a row.
- Fountainhead76, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1Chelsea and Liverpool have conceded less goals. I'm not saying that the 13 clean sheets isn't an impressive feat - I'm just stating that the two teams with the better defensive "units" have nobody nominated (Carragher, Terry?) and Man Utd have 3. It's just strange - but it's voted on by the athletes so I don't really understand the rationale.
Vidic is lucky voting was completed before the Liverpool game ;) - kcbworth, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1TBH as a liverpool fan, i don't even think gerrard has been our best player this season! That said, he's been better than the other nominees, possibly bar Vidic
- kcbworth, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1What is called media driven percieved total domination... there is NO WAY some of these players have been the best in their position, let along their own teams!
- endershalo, on 04/15/2009, -4/+3"Who the **** are Man United?"
- nraphael, on 04/15/2009, -2/+0Care to explain why?
- inactive, on 04/15/2009, -3/+1Cristiano Ronaldo wins again
- inactive, on 04/15/2009, -5/+2That's what is called total domination of a sport. Wow.
- lee1060, on 04/15/2009, -5/+1Don't care. Dirty scum bastards.
- nraphael, on 04/15/2009, -16/+1Michael Owen has had a better season and is an all round better player.
