- tommyboy84, on 03/10/2009, -14/+81Granted, that's very impressive to be able to kick the ball that far, but it's just a hoof upfield.
I play football (or soccer if you will) every week and players score goals like that all the time. Look at the clip, it's the goalies fault for not judging the flight of the ball. There's no way he meant to do what he did.
Look at David Beckham's goal from the half way line for Manchester United on YouTube and you'll see a player measuring his kick and executing it perfectly. A far better example of a goal from distance.
...bury me if you will, but I'll go down as the voice of reason! - Drakoi, on 03/10/2009, -5/+4210+50+10=70 yards. *face palm* learn to ***** add.
- inactive, on 03/10/2009, -1/+35Looks funny playing football on a "football" field.

Higuita Scorpion kick! - MrJohnSmith, on 03/10/2009, -0/+15*Soccer in the US sucks. You have probably never watched a live European football game before.
- msiege2, on 03/10/2009, -2/+17Uhhh... That was 70 yards. 60 on the playable football field, and then a 10 yard end zone.
- spoofer56, on 03/10/2009, -1/+14If the goalie kicks it, it's worth 2.
- davzie, on 03/10/2009, -2/+13Always makes me laugh. Putting "Bury me if you will" or "I know I'm going to get buried and flamed" or something along those lines always somehow makes you immune to to hitting the minus numbers.
On the other hand I agree with you that this sort of thing can and does happen a lot and that Beckham really knows how to execute a kick perfectly if he puts his head to it. - supertom, on 03/10/2009, -0/+9football*
- discovermag, on 03/10/2009, -2/+11Not to take anything away, but that's a 70-yard goal. He kicks it from the 40, so it's 60 yards to the goal line +10 yards to the goal = 70 yards. It's true that in Canada, they do use a 20-yard end zone, but this one is clearly a regular ol' American-style 10-yarder.
- theparaiba, on 03/10/2009, -0/+8You think that was a long shot?

- KimNovak, on 03/10/2009, -0/+6Yes , it true!
http://www.tiny.cc/jaix1 - ChonoonFiend, on 03/10/2009, -0/+6Since when has getting drunk and stupid been boring?
- MisterEX, on 03/10/2009, -0/+5There is actually a small group huddled around the camera.
- Gravey9, on 03/10/2009, -0/+5An NFL size football field is 100 yards from the beginning of one end zone to the other. Each end zone is an extra 10 yards. The ball is on the 40 which means it's 60 yards to reach the end zone to which he kicked towards. Add 10 yards for the end zone as the net was placed at the back and you get 70. So now you sound like a douchebag.

Title: Battle of the Names
Setting: Digg.com Comments
Brits and Americans wage a battle to death over whether this video is about Soccer or Football. After a long battle, the Brits win, and the Americans falter. Football it is!
End scene. - Floodle, on 03/10/2009, -0/+4It's the difference between skillfully taking an opportunity and a schoolboy fluke goal.
- MisterEX, on 03/10/2009, -0/+4Agreed, and I'm American.
- JohnnyRad, on 03/10/2009, -0/+4i bet you allow "spinsies" too
- lolen0006, on 03/10/2009, -0/+470yd football goal
- DougChristian, on 03/10/2009, -0/+4I like the term tackleball for American football.
- MarkusX, on 03/10/2009, -0/+3I can _hear_ them, but..... where are the ***** spectators???
- Drakoi, on 03/10/2009, -0/+3haha, you caught that. that looked pretty dumb
- CurlyFoot, on 03/10/2009, -0/+3You mean something other than a '90 foot ultra-unbelieveable basketball shot' is on the front page? Nice!
- cyberfreak01, on 03/10/2009, -2/+5ah, good old American schools......
- Demorto, on 03/10/2009, -0/+3He wasn't even going for goal, which shows you how pathetic the keeper is.
- cnt2infinity, on 03/10/2009, -0/+3NO! this is Football being played on a Handegg field.
- Ellsass, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2Throwball is pretty accurate.
- paulvq, on 03/10/2009, -0/+2I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but in case you aren't, it's a multi-purpose field. This one can is obviously used for American football and soccer.
- digitalpencil, on 03/10/2009, -1/+3our language, our rules..
i jest, i jest! ;) - svendm, on 03/10/2009, -0/+2Not _that_ impressive. The keeper was in the right position, he screwed up. In a way, the shooter kind of screwed up as well, for trying to take that shot with the keeper in position. I'd have been a gutsy but justifiable shot if the keeper had been too far forward, but as it was, this was just pure luck. Or bad luck.
- MrChunks, on 03/10/2009, -0/+2Didn't see that bit.
- Itaintrite, on 03/10/2009, -0/+2So should I look up for better goals on youtube to get more frontpage material for digg?
- TreatsTheBear, on 03/10/2009, -0/+2It was clearly 70. It's marked right on the field. Come on people.
- ASfinkterSezWut, on 03/10/2009, -1/+3Lol... I wish! I scored while playing goalkeeper back when I was 14... only got 1 point - but I got a beer from my father that night... 8-)
- Danltn, on 03/10/2009, -1/+3Why should it be? The opposing player was booked before the incident, thus resulting in a direct free kick.
- omar199, on 03/10/2009, -0/+2GOLAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSOO
- stockdam, on 03/10/2009, -1/+3Poor goalkeeping. The keeper say it all of the way and there's no way it should have gone in.
Here's how to do it though....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35DBmAgf47M - houseaddict, on 03/10/2009, -0/+2how can you know if it should be direct or indirect without seeing the action that gave away the free kick?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indirect_free_kick - ChileanGoD, on 03/10/2009, -1/+3This reminds me the legendary goal Ronaldinho socred against England in the 2002 world cup.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y70aJn7fb9Q - FreddieD, on 03/11/2009, -0/+1I appreciate the soccer clip, but that goalkeeper slipped and fell as he was going back. Even I would have been able to save that one.
- auto98, on 03/11/2009, -0/+1In 30 years of watching I could count on one hand how many times play has been stopped purely to issue a card - It just doesn't happen. The referee would pretty much always either stop play for the foul that led to the yellow card, which would usually be an offence resulting in a direct free kick, OR play would be allowed to continue until the next dead ball, when the card would be issued.
- MrChunks, on 03/10/2009, -0/+1Except that one (Ronaldinho's) was far better.
- Kitakaze, on 03/11/2009, -0/+1You missed my point. I understand perfectly well why soccer isn't played at as high a level as the rest of the world. No complaint (although in fairness, there aren't enough good players in the US to create enough quality teams for an entire league, the US has put together a national team that has done very well in international play, so don't give up on that bit).
What I'm saying is that this is as if a clip was posted that ended up on the front page of a predominantly English metasite, of a bunch of English kids making a really poor effort at playing American Football, and everybody were excited about how awesome it was.
So please lets get lots of more frontpage submission of soccer — but lets find some clips that actually ARE awesome. Because there's a lot of awesome clips out there about soccer. Just like there are, of American Football. -
