- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+29It's not so much that Zango is taking videos so much as Zango is taking videos AND forcing people to install their ***** software in order to view the "premium content" - stuff like Chris Pirillo's videos, which is already available, ***** free, on other sites, like Youtube or his own blog.
- sandbagger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22For those not up on their Zango history, here's a rather large slice...
http://www.vitalsecurity.org/labels/Zango.html - wirelesspacket, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16They even have videos from other websites like
Revision3 - Diggnation - http://zango.com/results.aspx?ct=0&search=diggnation
Hak5 - http://zango.com/results.aspx?ct=0&search=Hak5 - scubasjl18, on 10/10/2007, -5/+18This is very disappointing, in what Chris has found, since this can mean that their is only more of free videos that are copyrighted, that Zango puts you on the idea that you must install their software to view their video in, which they do not even own. Whats next my neighbor taking my cow for meat?
- juniorlikespie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13you have a cow! awesome
- TeMerc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Well I don't know why this surprises anyone. If you have the least bit of knowledge about them, you know they're a bunch of low life sneaky scumbags who will stoop to near any level to promote their '*****', as was so eloquently previously mentioned.

Search his site for more.
Any Google search for Zango and or 180Solutions will bring loads of complaints by most security researchers. Eric Howes has documented some of their past aggressions here:

These guys lack of ethics is alarming. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9So wait a minute ... you're saying that because anyone can post a link to digg - which is basically blogspam anyway - gives you the right to spam your ***** little website in our channel?
***** off, dickweed. - mphree, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I have a recent story about Zango. A friend and I put out a series of podcasts called Kidcast, basically we do science experiments and show kids how to take apart computers and such to show how they work. I started getting some complaints from parents that their kids were downloading our videos off of Zangos website and causing some pretty bad spyware/virus problems. I sent Zango a C&D and they refused. I was pissed off sideways about the whole issue, so I forwarded complaints to the EFF, FCC, BBB, Creative Commons legal team, and to my own lawyer and gave Zango a deadline. First, they tried to tell me they have revenue sharing deals with MetaCafe and Revver. After quite a bit of emailing, Revver told me they do in fact have a revenue sharing deal with Zango, but MetaCafe however guaranteed me they didnt have any deals with Zango and never would.
In the end, I threatened to sue Zango if my content was not removed by 12 AM the next day. They complied as soon as I had my lawyer talk to them.
*****.
By the way, here's our blog for the site that shows some of our attempts at getting our stuff taken down.

- nakp88d, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Whats strange really is they have been a company with a lawsuit waiting to happen for so many years now,why don't someone just sue them already?
- mirzar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Spybot Search ANd Destroy marks a ZANGO cookie as phishing cookie
- searob1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Google: What should I do if a site in your search results downloaded malicious programs onto my computer?
http://www.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=16162&topic=360 - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Sure it may happen everyday, but how the ***** does that make it right?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Jsut another Isreali spyware/malware company, no wonder it takes so long for them to get sued. These are the old Hotbar +180solutions people, seems they have a knack for ruining peoples day. http://coheda.typepad.com/israel/2006/06/hotbar_180solut.html
I bet if they were German or French they would have been out of business in a week. - BrookeMarks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Zango has been ripping people off for years now - they lure the less savvy surfers into installing their nightmare adware, and then their adware steals and redirects traffic to sites that they get paid for.
- dasunst3r, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Looks like this is an example from the book "Copyright 101 for RIAA Lawyers" someone missed. This, friends, is what's copyright infringement. Now let's sue 'em for $75K per piece of infringing work!
- micro506, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Anything is possible at Zangocom.
- JeanInMontana, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Pretty amazing, well no it's not, it's ironic the slime steals from others yet threatens a lawsuit to some poor guy in Canada that named his blob ZingoZango. http://www.zingozango.com
http://digg.com/tech_news/Zango_can_t_silence_free_speech - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I remember when I was a wee lil nublet and installed this. I started panicking because I thought I broke the computer. These guys are bastards.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4they had music from this site,
http://www.extlabs.com/yourinfamousharp/
completely unauthorized - vvovv, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I always see ads for porn that links to zango
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4i don't see how people on digg can complain about their videos get stolen when youtube has illegal videos (like full tv shows). i mean, zango is real shady, but this is how piracy feels when it's done to real people.
- Smegzor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Did you produce a bunch of audio podcasts of childrens stories a few years ago? They were great and my kids were asking about them recently. I had to tell them you had moved on and didn't do that anymore :(
- MrSunshine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I like those shiny little icons to the right on the website.
- pgm_01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It is not the stealing of content, it is the packaging of that content with spyware and gaming Google to get the links high in the search results.
- darkspire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zango#Federal_Trade_Commission_charges_and_settlement
Essentially they don't care until they get caught and until they have to pay money for actions. - smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2did you even RTFA? as pgm said, the problem is they're not just redistributing the content--which the author doesn't have a problem with--but they're packaging it with malware and game google's search algorithms to displace the original authors of the content as the top results.
- aardwolf, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I'm the owner of some of the content on that site (Hak5). We release the show with a Creative Commons NC-SA-BY 2.5 license. AFAIK this is a violation of the license, but then again IANAL.
- smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2that is about the most incoherent comment i've read all week. you should really proof read your comments before you submit them--or stop sniffing glue.
- TeMerc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I guess Revver is behind some of this 'content theft'hijacking:
http://chris.pirillo.com/2007/08/26/revver-is-behind-zango-crapware-fiasco/ - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It says it all really. I bet there's everything from FREE WEATHER to BONZAI ***** BUDDY running on his Dell.
He even had a third party toolbar reading his email, for god's sake. - crapmatic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No kidding. If you actually REGISTERED the infringed work with the copyright office, you can collect for attorneys fees too!
- tj_walker_dvt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Sue Zango. They are making a profit off of your work without your permission aren't they?
- mphree, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No, we didnt. We've only been doing this since the beginning of 2007. We're on a hiatus right now, because our main guy is moving and not really in a location right now that's suitable for filming.
And now the shameless ploy: We do have quite a few videos that kids seem to enjoy. In just 6 months, we've had thousands subscribers. If your kids are into science/tech they might enjoy the podcasts. - smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1seriously. these people cause damage to businesses and people's computers and are generally far more harmful to society than pot smokers. why can't the government create legislation to go after these guys instead?
i'm so sick of these despicable companies that make money in the most scummy of ways. the ***** thing is, because these guys are getting rich off of their "entrepreneurial spirit" and are pursuing the american dream of making a buck by whatever means necessary as promoted by our capitalist culture, their actions are completely condoned, and perhaps even admired by many, in our society. - weebit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I showed the website to someone. We both have free video content online. It looks like we may be forced to watermark our videos as "free content provided by..." This is so wrong. The copyright notice should be enough, and unfortunately I don't have the money to sue. What i am most curious about is if Zango is just grabbing content from websites they know wont be able to fight back? Or are they grabbing content from even the popular websites that do earn a living from the content of their websites?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1wait one website stole another websites content? OH MY GOD THIS IS NOT WHAT INTERNET IS ALL ABOUT
***EBAUMSWORLD.COM*** 100% ORIGINAL CONTENT (from newsgrounds) - fatdog789, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Registration is not necessary to collect attorney's fees, as such awards are rarely granted. Registration only provides evidence of ownership.
- jkramlich, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1A friend of mine pointing me to Zango when she saw one of my stupid home movies posted there. I know they never asked my permission as it was just a short video I produced and threw on my website well before sites like YouTube existed. I'm glad to know they are making money, infecting computers and generally being jerks and using my content to do so.
- DukeofBurl, on 07/09/2008, -0/+0The Internet is a crazy business! http://www.marketwithartemis.com
- wirelesspacket, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0it may be free and open content shared across the net... but when (software is introduced) that may harm a computer or user.. It is a major issue..
How would you feel if someone you know saw there favorite show on a website.. Click on the link.. downloaded the software on there site thinking it was legit.. (when it prob wasn't...) - Jolos, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1What I'm most concerned about with chris is the ammount of programs he has open. Holy zombie jesus look at that task bar!
- omababy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1lol me too roflmao... its also funny that ppl are getting dug down 4 saying zango sux ass even more. lol at u zango
- jbass, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Ya they claim free videos and sucker you in with some star naked and then in fine print say do you agree to have us infest your computer with spyware?
- tunapez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Are they related to Vongo? Sounds like the exact same *****.
- sosidsys, on 04/03/2009, -0/+0They also have videos from different sites.

- mphree, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1You know, some people are not internet/computer savvy and like that sort of stuff. Do they deserve to have their learning of it hindered by spyware/virus problems? No, you stupid *****.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0The difference is Zango is spyware,All ebaums has done is steal and attracted the right-wing/inbred crowd by doing so
- Lowrads, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Or.. you could just promote zango with all the methods that will trip the google filter to drop them to the bottom of the heap. Links from digg will just boost their overall stats. Unethical in normal circumstances perhaps, but property deals in a realm of contractual ethics, thus making them fair game.
