- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22I didn't know Digg added a "no *****" category.
- Smwbigboss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7All big search engines I know do this. There might be some that don't but I never heard of them. The main reason they do it is to more accurately display ambiguous search terms.
Like if somebody searched for "apple," and most of the people clicked on the company apple, there would be less results about the fruit. - jmz635, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Umm, yea?
- BillGod, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Spam is here and going to stay.. get yourself a hotmail account and sign up for stuff on the net using that account.. no biggy.. and yes.. they all do!
- kelbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This sort of thing is really meant for the non-digg crowd I would think. Digg users probably already have 2-6 e-mail addresses to cull spam.

Seriously, who has got the time to be login into hotmail? I rather use something like spamgourmet.com. - captinherb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Slightly related,
you hear about Google collecting vast amounts of info on people, like everything they have ever searched for, etc... Do all search engines do this and you just hear about google because they are the biggest or does google collect more than the others? - Yogurth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Use Dogpile as default engine, it will redirect searches from google, msn, yahoo ...and several more through it and You can set Your cookie to clean up auto after closing web page. That is probably the best way to stay out of Searh trackings.
- FallibleDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0spamassassin to filter mail,
privoxy (and maybe tor) to filter the web.
nuff said. - unknownsoldierX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This goes double for you, Mr. Foley ...and you congressional pages out there.
- dmadzak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0True if you get spam for related services. Like if you go to a financial site and then get spam for people selling you CDs, brokerage accounts, etc. but I have created a gmail account forgot about it and have logged in for the first time at a later point and seen like 10 spam messages. It looks like the spammers randomly hit email addresses to find new one as well as hitting established lists. This is getting freaking rediculous, even if you are careful you still lose.
So I got spam on a new account, from a gmail invitation I sent to myself and never gave the email to anyone so this isn't a reliable indicator that your email address was sold by a company. - fallen1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I know that everyone doesn't have this option, but I give out fake e-mails that go to the catch-all address on my domain. That way I can determine who is giving out my e-mail addresses (I use a unique, if fake, address for each website) and then with a simple rule in Thunderbird junk every single e-mail that is using that address. Makes my life somewhat easier to manage - as far as e-mail goes.
Plus, if I sign up on a legitimate site (you know, not porn related :-p) that states it will NOT give out my info and yet that unique (but fake) e-mail address starts showing up in my inbox all that is needed is a phone call to them explaining just how badly they ***** up. Each spam e-mail that uses that address they "promised" not to give out is $500 each in small claims court. If they don't show up, summary judgement goes to me. Yes, I know, it would be hard to collect from some companies but still, it is nice '-) - caleb4mj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Show of hands, who actually believed they were safe online before reading the article?
- Smwbigboss, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Oh yeah, and AOL search is much worse than google when it comes to privacy.
- JimXugle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1neither did I... usually the Digg crew will blog about it before new categories are added.
- caleb4mj, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Google is my favorite search engine.
