- ch4os1337, on 03/19/2008, -9/+147I still think that they should change the icons for VLC playable media files. Its annoying to see 10,000 little pylons all over the place, and no im Not talking about my porn.
- Zippo, on 03/19/2008, -3/+105Hopefully the VLC team will quickly fix these issues... it's a great app.
- Kaitsu, on 03/19/2008, -0/+92Are you saying that he must construct additional pylons?
- inactive, on 03/19/2008, -3/+67Real PLayer!!!!!!!! Wo0t!! Nothin says performance like a movie on your hard drive having to buffer!!!
- DigTheDoug, on 03/19/2008, -1/+60You must not be...10,000 would be far too few.
- thinkharderest, on 03/19/2008, -1/+54Well its a good thing I don't need subtitles for my porn.
- MadCactus, on 03/19/2008, -0/+46It used to stand for VideoLAN Client, but now the abbreviation is the name.
- cardyology, on 03/19/2008, -0/+44pylons??? Aren't they traffic cones?
- Emused, on 03/19/2008, -27/+71I would still use this app over anything M$ offers for video playback. The extra networking features make this, even with it's (very specific) exploit, a solid cross platform video player.Used it for years in a business environment, with zero issues.
- jkgm, on 03/19/2008, -7/+48Vulnerable LAN Client, apparently... ^_^
- sporg, on 03/19/2008, -2/+37This just in: All computers capable of connection to the internet are vulnerable to remote hijack.
- RaiderWolf, on 03/19/2008, -2/+37Considering what the alternatives are, it looks like I'm going to use VLC anyway.
- dkoon, on 03/19/2008, -12/+42Luckily in the Digg universe, only Microsoft's softwares are not allow to have any bugs. If this article is about Windows Media Player, everyone would be crying about how evil and how incompetent Microsoft is right now.
- DigTheDoug, on 03/19/2008, -2/+32Its only a vulnerability if you are loading subtitle files. Or you can grab a new test build. Not a huge issue.
- hakz, on 03/19/2008, -2/+26update released in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...
- cg06vx, on 03/19/2008, -4/+27The only reason i use VLC is i got sick of installing "codec pack" chocked full od trojans and malware.
- Coven, on 03/19/2008, -1/+24po-tay-to po-tah-to
- ExRe, on 03/19/2008, -5/+26MPC for everything it can play, VLC for everything it can't. :D
- ribo, on 03/19/2008, -0/+19My keyboard thanks you for the coca-cola it has received as an offering from my nose.
- dkoon, on 03/19/2008, -3/+20OMG, thank you so much for telling us that VLC NEVER skips, I guess that was my eyes skipping. Jonjonr6 and I need to go to the doctor for eye exam.
- badenglishihave, on 03/19/2008, -14/+31Media Player Classic ftw.
- Gryffydd, on 03/19/2008, -0/+15Is that because you're such a porn fiend you've taught yourself German and Russian? (At least with a limited vocabulary)
- Otto, on 03/19/2008, -0/+15It's already fixed in the nightly builds.
- buddamus, on 03/19/2008, -1/+14Everything on my computer lately makes me vulnerable to a remote hijack, I unplugged my toaster just incase
- nickj6282, on 03/19/2008, -1/+14And you'd be wrong:
Start --> Control Panel --> Folder Options --> File Types - bejayel, on 03/19/2008, -3/+16cwned
- bernlin2000, on 03/19/2008, -1/+13Doesn't really affect me: I never use subtitles, still a great player that everyone should use, for it's leanness and simplicity
- CoolWind, on 03/19/2008, -4/+16Get a router and relax.
- duk0r, on 03/19/2008, -2/+12You do know you can modify the icons. In windows that is. I don't know about Mac.
- Otto, on 03/19/2008, -2/+12This buffer overflow is difficult to exploit anyway. Somebody has to manually load a subtitle file into the thing. The only way you could exploit it remotely is to have some user turned on automatic subtitles and is using it as a remote player (not something you generally do often with VLC).
- BigManOnCampus, on 03/19/2008, -3/+13Aw cmon people, he asked a question that google could answer, I think I'm entitled to a snide response.
- WolfHook, on 03/19/2008, -0/+9If you are using a Mac then you can go to http://www.macrabbit.com/goodies and download a very nice icon set that makes VLC much more sexy looking.
- whyufail, on 03/19/2008, -0/+8your drug is a heartbreaker
- AzureRise, on 03/19/2008, -1/+9What?
- lengau, on 03/19/2008, -0/+8I agree with the better interface thing.
Can't say I've ever had VLC skipping when any other media player wouldn't (the one time I can think of I was converting 2 videos whilst playing a third in VLC - the resolution was to lower the priority of the conversion processes [reniced to 5] and the video didn't skip anymore). - weeFred, on 03/19/2008, -2/+10Yous guys call traffic cones pylons?? I've always called these things plyons http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pylon
- lengau, on 03/19/2008, -0/+8$ head -n 11 "Hot College Girls Having Sex (OMFG HOTT!!!1 Tubgirl Sex Horse orange).avi.srt"

oh! Oh! OH!!! - BrokenBrick, on 03/19/2008, -4/+12Lucky for us it's an open source program and will probably be fixed tomorrow. Dug down for pointlessness
- podgey22, on 03/19/2008, -2/+9Since moving to Linux, I've got to say that it's MPC that I miss the most. Nothing comes close for sane defaults and minimalism.
- fkr3, on 03/19/2008, -0/+7Or perhaps more importantly access the files you have permission to access.... like your work.
- lengau, on 03/19/2008, -0/+7Because... it's a competitor to VLC?
- Jonjonr6, on 03/19/2008, -6/+13Better than VLC in video playback quality. I've done an A/B comparison. VLC is grainy and choppy with some formats, and occassionally skips, where Media Player plays clear and smooth.
Don't get me wrong, I like the streaming capabilities, but it needs a better interface. - ch33sehead, on 03/19/2008, -3/+10CCCP, meh. K-Lite Codec pack ftw. I have yet to run across a file MPC can't play (unless it's corrupted, in which case none of my players can play it), but I have actually found files that VLC cannot play but MPC w/ K-Lite codec pack can.
- SQLserver, on 03/19/2008, -3/+9Even on my precious Linux Box?
- lengau, on 03/19/2008, -0/+5Have you tried smplayer?
- davidsmero, on 03/19/2008, -0/+5Privilege escalation...
- JackyAppleJones, on 03/19/2008, -0/+5Is that you Rivers?
- bejayel, on 03/19/2008, -9/+14Windows Media player has its uses, its certainly better than other players such as WinAmp...
- paperclipsNsoup, on 03/19/2008, -2/+7A security flaw in Linux (I run Ubuntu).... NOOOOOOO
- inactive, on 03/19/2008, -1/+6Ich komme! Ich komme!
