- dotlizard, on 02/12/2008, -1/+66time to upgrade my tinfoil hat to full tinfoil body armor. haha no i'm only kidding, i mean, they're not really going to do this right? right?
- meshman, on 02/12/2008, -3/+55How could they have my skeleton on file when the patent was only just submitted?
- markperia, on 02/12/2008, -0/+35How many times does Ben Franklin have to say it?
"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." - DeskFlyer, on 02/12/2008, -5/+27This is bone-rattling news.
- GemStar38, on 02/12/2008, -5/+26There needs to be a balance between infringing on people's rights and things we do in the name of "security".
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -1/+21Oh you bet they would ... anything to improve 'national security'
- docsimmons, on 02/12/2008, -0/+19Total Recall
- lordmetroid, on 02/12/2008, -0/+18I shall copyright my skeleton structure and sue the government for big sum of cash as the infringe on my piece of art.
- nitkin, on 02/12/2008, -0/+15Does this mean that someday we can travel with toothpaste again?
- AugustZephyr, on 02/12/2008, -1/+15All your bones are belong to us
- charliejane, on 02/12/2008, -0/+13It's a headline from the future!
- sputza, on 02/12/2008, -0/+13What does this technology do to pregnant women?
- meells, on 02/12/2008, -0/+12Perhaps this is a stretch, but being in the radiology field myself I know that a scan of this type has the potential to reveal bone lesions and/or malformations. It is possible that insurance companies (among others, possibly) would be very interested in the information in your official bone scan file (cancers, genetic diseases) to help them determine if you are worthy of coverage. Just an idea, but one I don't like.
- supermanred, on 02/12/2008, -0/+11Just buy clothes with bright colors made in China.
- baalzebub, on 02/12/2008, -0/+11what if this radar scanning device causes cancer?
- Hobbes24, on 02/12/2008, -0/+10i sort of wish i could easily get a pic of my own skeleton...i don't know why, i just want it.
i don't believe the gov needs it though - ultraJesus, on 02/12/2008, -0/+10Great. I already walk like a terrorist because of a slight limp. Now this.
- SQLDigger, on 02/12/2008, -1/+10You just had to be "that guy", didn't you? I hate it when somebody beats me to it . . .
- Jolene, on 02/12/2008, -0/+8"Security checkpoints could do a full-body scan and check your skeleton against the bone structures of known terrorists in a few years."
Wait... What? How did they get skeletal scans of known terrorists? Did they just ask them nicely and promise not to arrest them..? Sure, you may get a known terrorist's finger prints from when they were younger and into petty crime or something, but I've never known a police agency to do a full body scan to get a skeleton on record... - Hobbes24, on 02/12/2008, -0/+8never too early to cause a panic
- Cyrus042, on 02/12/2008, -1/+9Most patents result in absolutely nothing.
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -1/+8I'll be glad when they give it back to me. I can't go anywhere, until they do. I'm just a big blob of muscle and tissue. Sorry...couldn't resist.
- keepinithamsta, on 02/12/2008, -0/+7I'll give up the "safety" our government is bestowing on us for liberty.
- Andia83, on 02/12/2008, -2/+9This is disturbing... are skeletons like snowflakes in that no two are the same? What if I have a jaw similar to that of a terrorist? How can you tell??
I'm getting paranoid now. - inactive, on 02/12/2008, -0/+7I kinda like to know when my bones get jumped, so I can enjoy it.
Even if it weren't yet one more source of microwave EMR exposure it would still be intrusive violation of one's person.
Chilling to the bone.... - whatthefu, on 02/12/2008, -0/+7I'm all for security but this is just retarded. How about not infringing on rights and civil liberties?
- diadem2, on 02/12/2008, -0/+6Are they sure this doesn't cause cancer and won't mess with electronics or film?
- lucutus, on 02/12/2008, -2/+8I remember seeing this in the future. Then there was that chick with the three b00bs. Yep that's the next article for sure. As I recall anyway.
- chilipeppers4u, on 02/12/2008, -0/+6I don't think so - I call *****. I'm in diagnostic imaging and no imaging technique exists to image the skeleton without using potentially dangerous ionizing radiation (i.e. x-rays; MRI and ultrasound don't show bone well). RADAR or low frequency EM radiation can not penetrate the body (it has less energy than visible light). Besides if this technology existed I'm pretty sure it would have hit the medical industry fist (where there would be a ton of money to be made)
- Narcowski, on 02/12/2008, -0/+6Anyone want to sell me some lead bodyarmor?
- gmiley, on 02/12/2008, -0/+6"See you at the party Richter!"
- ghidorahnotweak, on 02/12/2008, -1/+7So will people break their bones in order to change their skeletal shapes and evade detection?
- BillDoE, on 02/12/2008, -0/+6We're gonna need a bigger closet.
- sfgeek, on 02/12/2008, -0/+5If they could get biometric data from the starfish pattern of your *****, they would do it in a heartbeat.
- d03boy, on 02/12/2008, -6/+11There is.. his name is Ron Paul
- hello2usir, on 02/12/2008, -2/+7That sucked.
- ndnspongebob, on 02/12/2008, -0/+5talk about invasion of privacy
- johnn11238, on 02/12/2008, -0/+5well.......I'm sure it kills them.
- gradivus, on 02/12/2008, -0/+5Ghet yoor asz tah Mahs.
- supermanred, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4Damnit, need to mask my extra-terrestrial skeleton somehow... you humans make it so difficult for me to exist peacefully with you.
- philodygmn, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4It's about time people started actively saying having the data at all is a problem. Stop quibbling over abuse. This is about controlling people by hassling them over identity. Wake up, already. In the same way a peaceful civilization wouldn't need a massive military, no state needs to identify personally its citizens.
- Bilabrin, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4Don't worry about it, I'm sure they'll only use this on identify bad guys......hold on, someones at the door...................
- hulez, on 02/12/2008, -1/+5is there a correlation between the % of trolls sapppin muh internets and the % of encyclopedia dramatica pages?
- JedicodeWarrior, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4Now that's creative thinking ... then you can get the RIAA to come to your rescue and represent your case for 90% of the income earned.
- supermanred, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4Bush shredded those long time ago. You want rights and civil liberties, move to France you freedom wanting terrorist!
- DeskFlyer, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4I submitted this tomorrow.
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4Your femur?
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -1/+5*loses
Has the internet really made everything think loose = lose? - supermanred, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4No, the terrorists have won. Didn't you get the memo? America is afraid, so very afraid.
Of course, by the terrorists I mean Bush and Cheney...fear mongers EXTREME! - hulez, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4I see what you did there
