you cant beat the 80mm fan i installed in my anus - WailOS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13At first I thought this was going to be a guide on how to overclock my cardiovascular system or replace my perspiratory cooling system with a much more efficient and less wasteful freon liquid cooling solution.
Too bad it's just some humdrum tech stuff. - hankyone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10please hack 127.0.0.1
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10My Body is Liquid Cooled. I have a sweet LED glow as well, the tubes kinda freak out the ladies a bit.
- jmcqk6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10no problem. I got in and deleted all of the files in a matter of minutes....
EDIT:
er, wait a second! what happened to all my files? You _tricked_ me - subscriber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I thought I was going to learn how to hack my arm off.
- bdthomas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4There is a conflict of interest that exist between managing systems (system administrators) and auditing systems (IT audit, pentesters, etc.). A system administrator's primary responsibility is to "ensure that systems are up and running, responsive, etc." while auditors seek to manage risk by reducing the likelihood or impact of a successful exploit. System administrators often do not make good auditors because of their inherent need to satisfy users. One person can not do a good job at both. (I am not arguing that there are individuals with the technical skills to do both functions well) For the greater level of assurance, a concerned system administrator would be much better off having an independent person review configurations and make recommendations. One would never submit a thesis without having other review it and make recommendations. The same concept applies here.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4LOL
That was a classic story (almost an urban legend). - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Oh oh! I'm good at self-hacking. It's all about social engineering, though.
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have 2 baboon hearts running in SLI
- ShaolinTiger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hmm Metasploit is the A-Z of hacking now?
Didn't know that..zz - saifrc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Some would consider self-hacking a waste of time, time that could be devoted to simply locking down a system more tightly. From "The Six Dumbest Ideas In Computer Security":
http://www.ranum.com/security/computer_security/editorials/dumb/index.html
I personally am not arguing that self-hacking is a waste of time, just that the author of this article has a point: why spend time trying to close existing holes, when you could build a system that is, by default, closed -- and then gradually open up only what is absolutely necessary? An interesting read. - omirix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Totally not true.
There are many penetration testing programs that are legitimate. And legal, for that matter. Exploits aren't illegal, but using them sometimes is, if you are breaking into systems you shouldn't be touching. - m0nk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This article seriously lacks real tips. You can't just have a minor windows exploit and call it the A-Z of anything....
- ideefix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lets give a try
- kymehra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2a-z? should be welcome to metasploit.
- omirix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh, and no, not every website would be defaced. (Most) of the exploits that are in the Metasploit framework have patches. It's the admins fault if his server is vulnerable enough to be hacked when a patch is publicly available.
- VXMirage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11. Find article referencing pen-testing tool/utility, written by a journalist who either fails to understand the tool's impact on a production environment, or simply omits it.
2. Submit to digg. (include "hacking" in title to garner 500 digs)
3. ???
4. Profit.
/at least it beats the political threads - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You should start off by scanning yourself with Nmap,Nessus and Nikto(in case of a web server) first and then use Metasploit.
Nessus has more tests than any other tool and is free.

http://www.sharjeel.net - tarheal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I fully agree with you on that front. I am a systemdomain administrator and we have a separate security section that does the auditing of systems. This will allow us to do our job more functionaly and moreover we are not the bad guys when it comes to locking down systems. We can do alot to protect the average user through Group Policys and routine patching and updates, but when it comes to white hatblack hat I will put my trust in someone on the outside looking in.

rofl.
You wouldn't happen to be that goatse.cx guy, would ya?
::goes to look for eye soap:: - Manax, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I agree, I was hoping for more stuff like http://www.mindhacks.com . At least much of that is about "self-hacking".
- datagram, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@burnstyle
Thanks for the laugh. - mattmac24, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3Link to download of metasploit is: http://www.metasploit.com/projects/Framework/downloads.html
i really doubt it is as easy as that article describes to "hack" into another system, simply because if it was so...every second web site would be destroyed and defaced by now...plus this would b all over da news and probably been sued at least a billion times by now....but i havnt looked at this software yet....ill look l8er

What is Digg?
