- sagedude, on 10/12/2007, -7/+40No, Team Xecuter are doing what The Specialist was too scared too do.
- chrisduffer, on 10/12/2007, -8/+37You are joking? I'm not from the industry or anything, but how do you expect to get half decent games produced when people like you are not giving any money back? GEEEEZZZZ!!!
- xodex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22eating their words? Umm how about no.
Almost in every interview they ever gave out on the security embedded into the 360, they mentioned that hackers will eventually exploit the 360. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21its bad that this only ups the piracy...
id be more happy if they found a way to run unsigned code...
but +digg, just for the fact that microsoft has to eat their own words. - staticten, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15yeah, MS will change everybit of it's LIVE "handshake" before these guys even release this thing.......
it's not gonna happen!! - xodex, on 10/12/2007, -10/+21who says we want to use live anyway?
- L0phtpDK, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18... But it wasn't them though that found this exploit... it was The Specialist and his crew. Team Xecuter are just doing what The Specialist never intended to happen: releasing to the mass public.
As pointed out in their release, the ONLY reason for this is to pirate games...
If only Microsoft supported homebrew apps... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15True, however the games shouldn't be priced so high in the first place. Drop the cost by 50% and they'd sell way more than 3-4 times as many copies.
Its just greed, pure and simple.
They just can't see how dropping the price will immediatley equal higher profits for them. - TGZRyo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Team Xecuter is at it again
- KissTheRing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I look forward to when unsigned code can be run too, my original xbox still gets used all the time for the Xbox Media Center program, but the xbox stutters when trying to play H.264 movies I've made from my DVD collection because it just doesn't have the horse power but I'm sure that the 360 will do just fine.
- L0phtpDK, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Wow, you truly are a low life... *ahem*
[Music] Artists are gaining more money?? Are you kidding me? To the contre, they are chewed up quicker. That is why you see a lot of the artists on MySpace selling their wares... they can not AFFORD to have a contract. Ever heard of studio fees? Producers do not cover that.
Now back to games.... It does not matter if it is a crappy game or not, it costs money to make a game. You are correct; it is their choice to make bad games. Which is the MAIN reason why we have same rehashed bull (Madden (or any other yearly EA Sport title), GBA Megamans, GTAs, etc etc)... People are going to produce things that sell; there is too much risk in making a new Franchise.
With people like you pirating anything that you see on The Pirate Bay, you do not leave much room for experimental games to grow. They need your help so that they can make ENTERTAINMENT for YOU. So because only the 'idiots' who actually buy the 'bad' games are not in-the-know like you and I... they will continue to fuel the rehashed pile.
So go ahead, and pirate; but do not complain to us about the lack of "good" titles. - The_Decryptor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11"Don't forget that this potentially allows people to cheat on LIVE."
Explain how, as all this hack does is allow a user to use unsigned disk's, the code still needs to be signed. - xodex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8nah nah man you got it all wrong... It's the PS3 that is the myth.
- sagedude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"Exactly. I modded my XBOX, but I only use the mod for XBMC and emulators. Piracy is a crime! :D"
So I assume you have paid for all your roms? - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9aghhhhhhhhh
we set sail for yonda torrent site at dawn - joshduck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Don't start with that "I wouldn't but the games anywhay" line. The fact that you wait for a console to be hacked before buying it proves that you *do* want to play that games, that you do play them often enough (you'll pay the money for the console) and also that you have no intention of ever paying for them. You need to realise that a real world exists outside of your fantasy realm, one where it takes money to actually make games and music.
- boscorelle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8was only a matter of time
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Just put your default gateway & dns servers to 0.0.0.0 and you won't be hooked to it anymore.
- KissTheRing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I just found the answer to my own question
TCP: 2869, 10243
UDP: 1900, 10280, 10281, 10282, 10283, 10284 - DCstewieG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Jesus, NO! Why do you people think Microsoft has some secret agenda to make the Xbox 360 trickle out? What do they have to gain from that?!?! They need to get as many in the hands of gamers as possible before the PS3 hits. What is your logic in thinking otherwise? Something like "M$ is stooop1d" ??
The problem appears to be that Infineon, a memory supplier, isn't producing nearly enough. - Cerebral, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Nobody said that Xecuter is going to put a mod chip in the console. You are so dumb! Anyone who even read anything in the XBOX hack scene knows that Xecuter produces some of the best quality products out there.
I also agree that games are becoming way too repetitive on the console, companies are not willing to take some money and go with an original idea. The funny thing is that some of the best games are the original ones (Psychonauts, Katamari, God of War, Shadow of the Collosus, Indigo Prophecy, Wario Ware Inc. franchise, etc.) You say that EA is losing money because of piracy... how about the fact that I know pleanty of people who refuse to purchase a madden newer than the 2002 game. They are ok with the old rosters as not many things change year to year other than the ONE feature in gameplay they add/take away/change each year. Also you know that game companies are out to take us all to the bank considering that game X is realeased and 2 months later guess what.... expansion pack!!!
Also for EA lets take a look at the 360 titles vs. XBOX titles for this year... ummm Tiger Woods... Price $10 more... courses 6 versus the 15 that come in the XBOX version... UMMM Madden... again higher price... no training camp to help learn the NEWLY CHANGED button scheme... and there was something else... oh yea... NO MADDEN!!!! He's not even in the game! PGR3... I think they only did what 5 courses or something like that... Open your eyes, all of the titles from EA have done this... just so they could get them out at launch and rake as much $$ as possible. Now it will be worse with madden because they have the EXCLUSIVE rights to the NFL for another 5 years!
All of the big companies (as well as the ones who license TV and Movie games) are playing off of the fact that the majority of consumers are DUMB! I know this because I have worked in retail since 1998 and it was an eye opener to me as well. If it is shiny and flashy then they will buy it. Every EA game takes advantage of this now days. They discovered this with that little program they call "The SIMS"
The real situation is this... People will pirate. Always have... always will, the difference is that with the digital world in the state that it is in more consumers are supporting the companies they LIKE by purchasing products or donating money or purchasing licensed goods. The same thing is/has been happening in the music industry. Besides bands make more $$ from merch. and touring... the down side is that more people come to their shows if they know about the band which is why CD sales still matter. So support what you like, if you want to leech then leech, and if you do not want to be involved either way then don't. - L0phtpDK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yes... until they make Live aware of your DVD's firmware... Which, as they mentioned, is really easy to do.
This should spark a new cat-n-mouse patch cycle. - Mesach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I have yet to play with someone on live who hasnt disconnected because they are losing. Live sucks.
- Xoligy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You retard. Buying the earlier systems means you've got more of a chance of getting a decent exploit/chip.
I personally hope you stop breathing before you buy a 360. Buying consoles purely for piracy is just pointless. Don't like the price? Don't ***** get the console. - walugi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Nintendo has never had a big problem with piracy.
who the hell is going to pirate cartridges :P ?
GC was pretty hard to exploit unless you had fantasy star online but I think theres some new way to do it now.
I really applaude nintendo for using cartridges, it made your collection of games look bigger, strengthed my jaw muscles from blowing into them.
Infact Nintendo has improved my quality of life. Not only does it increase my ability to shoot ducks but notice all the old NES games where we learnt to appreciate the finer qualities of racing, making burgers, and multitasking in the old maro games. God bless the 'Do ;D - giggins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Will you still be able to use LIVE?
- Xoligy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Actually, you're totally wrong. Team Xecuter have been working on a hack like this for a while, but were keeping it under wraps until it was more user-friendly.
- gridpoet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"[Music] Artists are gaining more money?? Are you kidding me? To the contre, they are chewed up quicker. That is why you see a lot of the artists on MySpace selling their wares... they can not AFFORD to have a contract. Ever heard of studio fees? Producers do not cover that."
I'm afraid you dont know anything about the music biz. I've been a musician for 12 years and let me tell you, big media artists are making MORE than they ever have...its not a rational for piracy but the LIE that the poor artists is starving is bull. As a matter of fact a recent study showed that P2P actually helped the indie artists sales. As far as Studio fees, when you sign a contract to a record company its ussually a multiple record deal, it includes studio time to record said records. There are almost NEVER any fees upfront...the record company shafts the artist later in fee's DURING the contract period, by charging them for alot of their common services(such as payola for radio time and advertising fees). Its a well known fact that artists make 95% of their revenue from promotional/concert an merch. deals. - drw2583, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"yep, like multiplayer. Companies that don't put in the effort to add in multiplayere should realise that their games probably won't sell."
Right...which is exactly why the Grand Theft Auto series failed so badly...oh wait, no it didn't. - DaShiZNiT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4well xbox live is getting an update RIGHT NOW, who knows what holes theyre patching, and glitches theyre not fixing....
- steverl22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That's why I'll be buying my 2ND xbox 360 this summer, I say bring it on!!
- ek3s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Have you people thought of unplugging the 360 from the router/modem?
I know it is kinda brutal but it works. - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6You think EA is bad? MS Live will be alot worse if it ever succeeds. They want to even extort people out of single levels now, charge for extra skins. All the things you used to get for free on top of the $50 you already paid for a game.
It's a RIPOFF! This content used to be free! - trucdem44, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The security is really good but the problem is that the developers forgot to remove the debug mode. So basically most of the security features vanished.
- Erkan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I can not understand all this piracy hate. I remember back in the 90'ies. Everyone was pirating A500 games then. There was not a single Amiga owner who did not have pirated games. Seems to me, everyone was pirating everything back then and no one were crying.
As someone pointed out earlier in this thread, games today cost about 80 dollars. That is a lot of money. Think of it this way, if an apple costed 80 dollars, would you seek out the farmer and pay him that even if you did not knew it was rotten or would you steal the apple from the apple tree?
I think it is great that it will be possible to pirate games on the XBOX360 in the future. - EvilCowSan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It's nice that there is progress in the scene, but it's sad that it only promotes piracy(or backups, but that seems like a small number of the people that will use this)
- MaDsKiLLz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i dont believe in punishment for pirating games... i believe that the gaming companies should assume people will pirate it and then offer something for those who buy. e.g. xbox-live (though that's ignoring the fact that with this exploit those security checks will be breached)
- chrisduffer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Exactly. I modded my XBOX, but I only use the mod for XBMC and emulators. Piracy is a crime! :D
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4ok, BF2 is good but it is a system hog and has many many bugs that have been there since day 1.
but my point about Madden, Fifa (fifa at least gets better every year) but the f'ing Sims is the worst of all the games. They make a new addon every week for it and charge people. I wonder how much all the addons and the orginal would cost if you bought them all together? (more then you would pay that's for sure)
Stop ripping us off (not just EA) and we will stop stealing your games. And stop making games from TV shows and movies. THEY ALL SUCK. - jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4magic
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I would go and buy game if they didn't rip you off so much. In the UK a 360 game cost £45 that's about $78 (xe.com)
$78... i mean come on. I bought HL2 for £27 and still play it today almost 15 months after i got it, now that's value. Not like these Madden/Fifa/BF2/Sims games that add a new animation and roster every damn year and make you pay for it again. they could release that in a patch over XBL ffs.
I think it's about how much respect you have for the company. I'm a big fan of Valve software and I like that they take an interest in there community and games. When was the last time EA did anything good without a price tag attached?
so my point is, if you charge a fair price for game £25 ($40) then more people will buy them and you will MAKE MORE MONEY. until that day I will leave my 8mb broadband on 24/7. - CA55IU5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't think teamxecuter ever mentions anything about putting this on a mod chip
from their site regarding the hack:
"...Obviousley the only use for this is piracy - hence you wont see any modchips (not from us at least - however they wouldn't be needed anyway - however we do have a few cheap tools to make life much easier - more on that soon) Still a long long way off from unsigned code - but it's a start...." - suMMx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3well with live its gonna be an on going battle since the 360 is always hooked to it.
- thushan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2everyone (including MSFT) knew it would be reversed (I think they said within 6 months) of release, and that they'll have something there to fix it... so i guess we'll see something happen sooner or later...
- djnick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it will be fun for a while but it will be easy to block. even thespecialist who found the hack said so in an interview. i just want wait until they fully exploit the 360 so we can run homebrew like original xbox
- russizm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is the X360 even readily available in stores yet?
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Obviousley the only use for this is piracy" what about standard legal game backups? i know this will be used for piracy, but it is not the ONLY use. there are legal uses also.
- mike_p, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3volcompimp:
The RIAA/Rootkit tactics? I don't know where you thought you were going with that point but I can assure you that most artists do not approve of this. The artists themselves are the ones that are getting ***** on by people that would rather obtain their album online and not have the decency to help them pay off their label debt (for most artists). It's real... and I don't think you realize that.
"If you make the best games, they will sell"
... and I'm guessing you won't be buying either, right? They're able to make the best games with the best budget available. They don't call them AAA titles because they have low budgets. Few get lucky, but most developers are able to polish their titles (franchises) with cashflow. Basic economics. - qwab, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3There really is such thing as an Xbox 360? I thought it was only a myth!
- fleetskeet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The last three 360 games I bought were all $60 and the last one was definitely not worth it (GRAW, I'm looking at you, you tedious piece of crap). I would've definitely pirated that first to see that it wasn't worth my hard-earned money. $60 is alot for even a good game like NBA 2k6 or Fight Night.
MS should make sure there is a good demo available for each big title that is about to be released BEFORE the release date. Unfortunately, if they did that, it would most definitely hurt the sales of some of the crap that gets released. -
