Dumbass, he isn't being stupid. When he became an American citizen, he swore an oath.
... I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic ...
Looks like never took that oath to heart and should have stayed a Philipino Citizen. I say fry his spying ass. - Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Snake?....SNAKE!?...SNAAAKKEE!!
- xedeon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Holy *****!! I am born and raised in the Philippines, what the HELL is the stupid bastard gonna do with that information? I cannot think of any reason for him to be doing this, and I think this article is misleading they should label him as "Leaking Classified Information" even if he did manage to steal anything important the information will ultimately be worthless since Philippine government officials are soo corrupt its sickening..
- filipinopalomno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2okay... here's a little background info...
Philippine president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has been a close ally of the Bush administration ever since they coincidentally both took office as presidents of their respective countries on the same day (1/21/2001). Like George W. Bush, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's father was also a former president. Furthermore, Arroyo has become an even closer ally of the Bush administration since she offered almost limitless anti-terror support and resources post-9/11...
Fast-forward three years to the Philippine presidential election in late 2004: Arroyo was trying to run for another term as president (as was George W.)... She was in serious danger of losing the election to a guy known as Fernando Poe Jr. (AKA: FPJ). FPJ was a very popular action star in Philippine cinema. In the Philippines, popular actors often get elected to public office, since the majority of Filipinos lack the education/critical-thinking skills to make informed decisions. It wouldn't be so bad if these actors-turned-polititians were competent and well-intentioned. Unfortunately, history has shown otherwise (Arroyo was actually just the vice president who took over after the last actor-turned-president, Joseph Estrada, was ousted on 1/21/2001). The sad thing is that FPJ was just as uneducated as the masses who supported him, while Arroyo is a well-educated economist from Georgetown University. Worse still... for most of the 2004 campaign, FPJ held a significant lead against president Arroyo. And this guy was the only candidate who wouldn't submit to a debate. And it was obvious what he was afraid of. There were many reports of FPJ taking crash-courses in economics, law, trade, etc...!
Anyway, it seems to me that if Arroyo was in danger of losing the 2004 presidential election to a pea-brained action hero, not only would it have been detrimental to the Filipino people; it would not have been good for the Bush Administration's anti-terror efforts in Southeast Asia.
Needless to say, Arroyo ended up winning the election by a very small margin. Interestingly, FPJ reportedly suffered from severe depression and kicked the bucket shortly thereafter. Sadly, the candidate whom I think would have made a fine president, Raul Roco suddenly died this past summer. That makes two out of the six or so major candidates who have died since the election. go figure...
It seems like this White House spy was bent on exposing the alleged US government's efforts to rig the Philippine election to keep Bush's buddy Arroyo in power. While this kind of election-rigging may seem unethical, I personally believe that in a country where the masses are poorly educated, elections (and other implements of democracy) are useless. The majority of Filipinos (though not all of them) are just about as intellectually bankrupt as they are destitute, and it isn't necessarily their fault. It is my opinion that the Philippines could benefit from a couple generations of a "Father-knows-best" government or a "benevolent dictator" whilst education systems are overhauled.
Anyway, that is just my opinion on what might have gone down in that White House spy case. I can only wonder if this makes sense to those of you reading this! - darksteppa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2---funny how the fact that he's a naturalized citizen is one of the top things that's mentioned...even tho he's become a US citizen...he's automatically labeled..."a naturalized citizen from the Philippines..."
the dude is american...
I just have this feeling how american's can be so mentally washed out...not recognizing themselves as a whole. - xedeon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just so you people know since most of you probably didn't even read the article:
ITS "CLASSIFIED INFORMATION ABOUT THE PHILIPPINES" about the philippines!!!!!!
"The classified material which Mr Aragoncillo stole included damaging dossiers on the president of the Philippines. They were allegedly passed on to opposition politicians planning a coup against the president of the philippines" im done!.. - Swift2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Let me familiarize you with what's happening. First, what's been going on for about a year is that a Pentagon neocon aide to Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld was found leaking secrets through AIPAC to Israel. There will be more to come, within the American Israel Political Action Committee. Just about three hours ago, the New York Times published the fact that the guy has pled guilty and will be going to jail for a long time.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/06/politics/06spy.html
Now, why do you suppose that two other things happened today: one, this much less serious story (he was leaking stuff to the Philippine opposition. And they are crucial to us because--?) that, not coincidentally, involves the Clinton Administration, and even, yes, Al Gore. It also involves Cheney, but we'll hear less of that.
Two: The other thing that happened today on the back pages about intelligence? Well, the CIA, and Porter Goss, has decided that we really don't need an inquiry to apportion blame for the lapses in intelligence that let 9/11 happen. Let bygones be bygones... - hdenton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good thing this happened before there was a homeland security
- theMaxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1^^berniej said: "Typical Pinoy."
Labeling a culture or country and its inhabitants with a denigrating comment sure as hell qualify as racism to me!
Maybe you didn't intended your comment to be a racial slur... and if so, I would suggest thinking better next time, as when I read your comment, I feel a disdain in people of Filipino origin. - berniej, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just as when the Filipinos (or at least people of Filipino descent) are starting to make their presence felt, along comes these scums to pull them all down. Typical Pinoy.
- FunHeadlines, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is old news, for he was arrested almost a month ago. So why the big news today? What's with the timing? Are they preparing some bad news and they need a fall guy now?
I have no idea, I'm just wondering why a month-old story is suddenly big news today. - n00ch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's like they're repackaging the story to catch an effect they wish they had gotten...the FIRST time around:
Sept 12th: http://abcnews.go.com/US/LegalCenter/wireStory?id=1120463&page=1
vs Oct 5th (the story link)
Notice how much more colorful the 2nd story is portrayed, in its headline and content. As much BS as the headline of this submission... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Filipwned!!!!!
- JimXugle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is sad. Step it up Mr. President... where there's one, there's many.

oh yeh... think about doing an audit about what computers have what information on them and what they're connected to (i.e. Is our Nuclear Arsenal controlled by an Unpatched Windows XP Machine plugged directly into the New ARPA net?) - gamabunta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Am I the only one who thinks there should be some way we can ban flamers?
- kyote, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At least the spy wasn't a White House intern. They get all the blame.

- kimuuu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great discussion. Interesting theories on Aragoncillo being a fall guy for the US govt...
- pseudojd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0He could of been executed if we were at war ( a declared war ). as we are not at war he wont be executed ( most likely... )

Well put! hmm.. the "Crab Mentality" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crab_mentality ) comes to mind!!! - lordsandwich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If he's convicted and sentenced to death, I'm sure the Philippine president will intercede and... oh, right.
- TRUEPATRIOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow good thing we have homeland security -.-
- MoWorse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Been to the Philippines back when I was in the military. Filipino's are a great and proud people. However if he is tried in Federal court and actually charged with treason he can be executed. Most likely he will plea down to a loud tailpipe and running a red light! Sorry to see this happen and just when we thought Outlook was safe again this happens!
- n00ch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it will be interesting to find out more about this guy's history as the story is developed. given the 'rines, and the time spent climbing to such a position of trust, it was probably a simple grab at offered money from whoever opposed the phillipino pres, rather than anything cool/interesting... give me bond! not this fool...
- Jahozafat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When was outlook safe?
- n00ch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0holy crap this guy was sloppy:

Aha! I might finally have the answer why he did this, like i said on my previous comment "Philippine Government Officials are CORRUPT it's sickening" I am certain that he was offered money so the opposition can plan a coup on the current Philippine president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo ( Which by the way was a classmate of former President Clinton at Georgetown Univ) not to get confused about Filipinos in general because they are great people, I guarantee you no one will even vouch for this bastard he should be punished to the full extent of the law!.. - mikeroySoft, on 10/19/2009, -0/+0It's old news to distract people from the real spy scandel... namely Plamegate.
- geocarlos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The admission of the FBI that Aragoncillo had obtained highly classified information about the Philippines is a clear and undeniable admission that the US government is actively involved in espionage in Philippine soil. Please read between the lines and study more on the relationship between the US and the Philippines.
- playaz33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love the US, don't like Bush, love my Filipino people, don't like every Filipino person. I care too little to actually read the article, because this guy and what he does reflects as much on me as George Bush does to all white people. How much you believe it reflects is your perspective only.
- xedeon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hey look at the people who used the word "dumbass" and read the comments after theirs.. I have two conclusions, one they are Teenagers two they are high school drop-outs.. LOL @ bugmenot2 & abeerge30 ha! funny how bugmenot2 tried to WoW me by plaigarising the definition of "Telemetry" when i said this is not tech news dude go read your books!...
- Singee15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0article came out today...thanks anyway rxkle for your voice of reason.
- maddog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hahahaha
in the "security" area.
nice touch! - Swift2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0filipinopalomino, so you think it's all right to steal elections, because "the people are poorly educated"? That's disgraceful. Then, you don't believe in democracy at all, do you? Better watch out, or Bush will invade you to institute democracy in the Phillipine-- oops, tried that before.
As for actors being president, I agree. We had an actor for a president, and look at the disaster he was. - SoulRebel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So the questions begs to be asked: How many more are there??
- HELLRaZerX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0xedeon, please stfu..."dumbass" "xedeon don't be stupid..."
and what did you actually meant by calling viosine stupid ?
pinays are hot!!! - filipinopalomno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dearest Swift2:
I do believe in the power of democracy, but only if the masses are well-informed.
Although there are many intelligent, well-educated Filipinos, it is the common people that lack the necessary critical-thinking skills to make a democracy work. But it's not necessarily their fault. It is mainly the fault of their corrupt government. It's as if the common people are purposefully deprived of the empowerment that comes with a good education. Add to this the "brain drain," and the ratio of uneducated to educated Filipinos increases exponentially. The fact that FPJ came close to becoming president is clear evidence that the majority of eligible voters are intellectually bankrupt. That is why I believe that the Philippines needs a couple generations of a benevolent dictator/father-knows-best state, while educational and economic therapy takes place. Only after these needs have been addressed can a democracy flourish.
By the same token, one might be able to say the same for the USA... considering the re-election of a certain W. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At least the US gives the opportunity to nationalized citizens to access public positions, even those sensible to security, now if they screw that they deserve hell, so give him the chair, the electric one, that's federal treason and he deserves it.
- xedeon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I'm surprised you people don't care. This means that there's people in our government who are against us, and even beyond that, there are nations that are employing people to work against us."
Against us!? "the american people?" *Sigh* please "at least" read the article..

The Philippines has been a US allie for eons of years.. - kuya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice theory Jayhawks71, but I'm not buying the witness protection path in regards to this story. Yes, everyone knows the US wants to know everything in the world ... but I don't think this guy was picked to be the fall guy.
I think Aragoncillo was doing his job at the White House but on the side was taking some information to send to Gloria Macapagal's opposition. He probably got sloppy and got caught OR someone in the Philippines did not get paid enough and spoke out.
That's what happens when corruption is the norm. - jasqwerty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0He should be charged with treason and executed as soon as possible. Slowly, painfully, and publicly. That's all there is to it, plain and simple.
It's one of the only crimes defined in the constitution and carries the death penalty, and always will unless we have an amendment. :-D - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The US is actively involved in espionage in every country in the world. We want to know everyone's business, ally or not. Its mindless to think that we aren't doing this all over the world. For some reason this "front" is so transparent to me. Someone in the Philippines caught on and the US gov't is putting out this story to dash any of this talk that the gov't was behind it. The guy named is a fall guy and probably won't spend a minute in prison. He will be moved to a witness protection program sorta "new identity" path. This is the gov't covering its ass before this all blows up. Playing the victim is the oldest game in the world along with Parcheesi.
