- sharedferret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good to see the Shuttle program back in operation and that Discovery successfully took off this morning.
- stuffedstich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0glad they got up. Lets hope they come home safely.
- fitzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0finally :)

(not much going on at the moment) - kryptogrowl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"America's first manned space shot since the 2003 Columbia disaster." Guess you didn't hear about SpaceShipOne.

- RyanPMcBride, on 04/23/2009, -0/+0NASA TV's coverage beats the regular news channels' coverage by miles. They have live feeds from the flight deck, lower deck, white room, external mounted cameras, and more. Plus, it's all commentated by previous shuttle pilots and commanders. Real great stuff.
- RyanPMcBride, on 04/23/2009, -0/+0I'm with you on the ISS, mdramige. NASA is supposed to have some new space exploration vehicle in the works by 2010. Hopefully we'll be on our way back to the moon and then on to Mars shortly thereafter.
- compboy1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey Russia: We're BACK! BOO YAH!
Sorry, just thought that needed to be said... - btenison, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you ever get the chance to go to Kennedy and watch an actual LIVE launch, you should! It's amazing! I had the opportunity to see a night launch once and the sky lit up like the sun was coming up!
- supernaut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0there's nothing like watching this stuff go down live, even if it is on tv. personally, my favorite part was watching the three main engines on the shuttle ignite, shift and hone its flame. : )
- evasivejay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its about time......
- skoopmanschap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0good point kryptogrowl, though they'll probably not take that one seriously as it didn't actually orbit earth (or did it?)
- stuffedstich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"America's first manned space shot since the 2003 Columbia disaster." Guess you didn't hear about SpaceShipOne."
they are talking about NASA's first spaceflight since the accident - JoseCuervo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>>Niao
You can watch the vid on CNN's web site - Niao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>>josecuervo
Crap, I missed it.
Anyone got a torrent?
Oh.. and uh.. Well done, NASA. - JoseCuervo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just watched the video on CNN's site and read the related stories. Did anyone else notice the reference to a "near cloudless sky" and initially the video seems to have confirmed this then they cut to a closeup of the engines and when they panned back for liftoff there were a lot of clouds in the sky. Maybe it was just because it was a different camera shooting from another angle but it just struck me as a bit odd.
- cuoops, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0HDnet had it on for 4hrs. Looked awesome in hi-def. Nasa was using 13 or so of HDnet's hi-def cameras for the launch. Thank you Mark Cuban!!
- mdramige, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm glad that we've mastered 1980's technology.
- autok2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man that's fake!
- mdramige, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, I know, I've seen the "Modern Marvels" episode on the Space Shuttle. However, I'm tired of this ISS crap. I want NASA to start exploring again. Leave the boring near-Earth stuff to private industry.
- RyanPMcBride, on 04/23/2009, -0/+0mdramige- Good point. Though, the shuttle fleet's avionics and computer systems have undergone substantial renovation since the 80s. The entire flight deck is a glass cockpit (6 flat panel displays). The computer system (which pretty much controls the entire launch and re-entry and various orbital maneuvers) was upgraded a few years back I believe.
- monolith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0skoopmanschap, it didn't, still, it was more important. I am glad that the shuttle made it into space without killing anyone, I'm sad that we are still using it. I do think that NASA is getting better.
- falloutsyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Columbia crashed on my Birthday . . .
