- quietcynic, on 10/11/2007, -5/+33What's this, you say? People manipulating community ratings? This is both a complete surprise and an utter outrage!
- kenvsryu, on 10/11/2007, -6/+33The youtube guys are busy counting their google money. I haven't seen much innovation from the site since they were acquired.
- fober, on 10/11/2007, -5/+22I don't judge YouTube videos by the color of their ratings.
I'm no ratist. - lordwow, on 10/11/2007, -4/+19Next you'll tell me those beautiful women on myspace don't really want to be my friend.
- NinjaBoy, on 10/11/2007, -6/+11Next thing you know they will be telling us blog spammers are gaming digg.
- merreborn, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6In fact, now that I think about it, no one has ever run a video site as popular as youtube before. Ever. They're probably facing technical issues no one has ever tackled before.
Also, they may just be adapting youtube to google's content distribution network. Google has datacenters all over the country, and all over the world, which they use to provide faster access to users. - merreborn, on 10/11/2007, -5/+6It's worth noting that not all innovation is obvious. They could be spending a lot of time making videos load faster, or simply trying to keep up with growing traffic: they've gone from #20 to the #4 most popular site on the web in the last year -- that's a lot of traffic, which means a lot of new hardware. They could be in the process of training new employees, or restructuring post-takeover.
Besides, they have added new features since the takeover:
1) The "Who else is watching?" feature.
2) That new ad format that got dugg this week, which was seen on that my chemical romance video.
3) Improved search. The original search sucked, and didn't catch typos. Now, if you misspell something, it gives you the "Did you mean: Grass Hopper?" message, just like google. - dt40, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I'm SHOCKED that people are co-opting anonymous and reputationless community mechanisms toward their own selfish ends!
- BearinG, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Did anyone really think it WOULDN'T be abused?
