- nospinhere, on 02/12/2008, -0/+13Those are some strange looking Russians in the photo.
- mybeat, on 02/12/2008, -1/+9SPAMMERS should be shot at sight
i ***** hate r3p1ic4 w4atch3s , small d1ck , better women pleasure crap coming to my email. - r00tus3r, on 02/12/2008, -2/+9What a typically American response. America is number 1, yet you want to cut THEIR cables? Why not cut yours first?
- bxblox, on 02/12/2008, -1/+7Most of my spam comes from canada, and its all for online pharmacies.
- trogdor282, on 02/12/2008, -0/+6Since these cables are bidirectional, wouldn't that be the same thing?
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -0/+5In Soviet Russia, spam superpower becomes you!
- F1R3DUP, on 02/12/2008, -0/+5In Soviet Russia spam deletes YOU!

- TFGeditor, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4Years ago, I discovered a very simple spam solution for my company: Firewall the world.
We block at the server all email that sources from an IP address listed in APNIC, LACNIC, RIPE, or AFRINIC. The result is a 90-plus percent decrease in spam. It costs us nothing since my company does not do business with other overseas companies or have customers outside North America.
Obviously, this solution is not for everyone, but if you can afford to do it, it is an elegantly simple answer to the spam problem. - harsh789, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4The spam-relaying countries were the United States, Russia, China (4.2 percent), Brazil (4.0 percent), South Korea (3.9 percent), Turkey (3.8 percent), Italy (3.5 percent), Poland (3.4 percent), Germany (3.2 percent), Spain (3.1 percent), Mexico (3.1 percent) and Britain (2.5 percent).
How do they derive stats?? - sadilak, on 02/12/2008, -0/+3and why is Russia's #2 place surprising?? They are a technically highly advanced nation.
- haniam, on 02/12/2008, -0/+3Actually 99% of spam is sent by botnets. And 99% of spam botnets are controlled by Russians and Ukrainians. So if you count who is actually sending the spam, it's pretty much all Russia/Ukraine. If you count who is paying for the spam, then the numbers get murkier. These statistics that just count the nationality of source IP addresses are just silly. Russia/Ukraine is THE powerhouse for spam, and will continue to be for some time.
- KingGorilla, on 02/12/2008, -0/+3I hate small d1ck too
- BabyWookie, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2It's not as strange as you might think. There are ethnic groups in Russia that look very Asian.
- nospinhere, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2Which were part of the U.S.S.R., they are their own counties now. Russia itself does not have a large population of "Asians."
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -2/+4This headline appears to be an eye-catcher for spam campaigns around the world not just naming Russia. When you read through the regional statistics in the article you get a better idea of who the real spam leaders are.
If you disposed of your Windows systems vulnerable to these "marketing pitches and viruses or other malicious software" the article appeared to have little noteworthy value. - roberto_deneero, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2porn superpower too
- winmywii, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2"In one of the latest efforts to bypass spam filters, Sophos said cybercriminals sent out their messages with supposed music files from stars such as Elvis Presley, Fergie and Carrie Underwood attached to the messages.
The files actually contained a monotone voice encouraging people to buy shares in a little-known company. "
Ok, who the hell is buying this stock? - reuscel, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2In your face, Nigeria!
- gremos, on 02/12/2008, -1/+3that's not spam, it is official promotional material.
- octophobic, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2This is just a demonstration of their power. Eventually we will reach a stalemate of mutually assured email destruction.

- Dubon, on 02/12/2008, -0/+1It seems in just a couple of weeks several places were nominated to be the Monstrous Spam Origin. It was Asia, then in was Europe, now it is Russia (sorry, I'm too lazy to dig up citations). Is there some kind of contest going on that I don't know of?
- DestroyFascism, on 02/12/2008, -0/+1I am so glad I own a webserver...
I like how a spam filter that originates from open source systems can suddenly become "Marketable" for an ISP....Bastards! Oh but its free for 12 months....Ok good I can churn...

http://www.unlockcomputers.com/ - PurpleSfinx, on 02/12/2008, -0/+1It is... The people of Russia don't like SPAM apparently, and threw it out y the bucketload. Eventually it all gathered at the local tip, and there were so many different animal parts in there, that it grew into a giant pig-cow-horse-monkey-sea-cucumber monster, which is now on its way to Japan to battle Godzilla, before taking a trip to Scotland to battle a giant tin of CHUM dog food.

- drastik21, on 02/12/2008, -0/+1If you read the story it says they are people from Beijing. They are meant to signify that the Russians have surpassed the Chinese as far as Internet Spamming.
