NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP - Mizzike, on 10/02/2008, -1/+32This is why RFID implementations should be limited to things of lower security, like inventory automation (see: WalMart) and anti-theft measures at your local convenience store. Radio waves are one of the most insecure ways to transmit data and can be easily faked--as evidenced by this article--and here we are proposing we have our personal information embedded on these things.
I'm all for technology, but let's have some common sense, too. Or is common sense not so common anymore? - robbob, on 10/02/2008, -3/+24I just love that the writer refers to the The Hacker's Choice as THC all through the article
- jjmac, on 10/03/2008, -0/+16From what all I've read on RFID you'd be better off writing your passport on notebook paper with a pencil.
- minorgods, on 10/03/2008, -0/+13they needed to hire an elvis impersonator and actually try to get on a flight
- steve9924, on 10/03/2008, -1/+10rfid hacking REALLY makes me worry.
- ablacksunrise, on 10/03/2008, -1/+9How did this Heron migrate so far from YouTube? It's not even winter...
- desiv, on 10/03/2008, -0/+6Unless....
IT REALLY WAS ELVIS!!!!!!! - Tiemmothi, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4nope
- hnazareth16, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4This will not end well if the government doesn't do something about it. The last thing we need is an increase in fake passports.
- Blandyman, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4Far from it. Common sense takes years to grasp. That's why we go to college!
- VitriolAndAngst, on 10/03/2008, -1/+5RFID is not going to make the system more secure against terrorists -- it is to track the average citizen, which any fascist state sees as a threat.
The 9/11 hijackers, got most of their passports in Saudi Arabia from a CIA agency. So make of that what you will.

But don't you DARE do anything sneaky. Our Government doesn't want any competition in crime while they are stealing all our money. - jeremyduffy, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4The more exposure of this the better. RFID insecurity is a huge issue that most people don't know anything about.
- Superflks, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3The heron made me do it!

....the economy on the other hand... - nesagwa, on 10/03/2008, -2/+5Can we still get old fashioned paper passports anymore?
- bryanwilson08, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3across the street from Sarah...
- southeastbeast, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3RFID is fail. Unless they don't store any personal data, but rather some sort of identification number (not SSN) coupled with another form of identification, eg fingerprint (I don't care about big brother storing my prints, they already have them =). But the current sad state of RFID storing all the critical information on it will end up like the Boston Subway hack.
- Goner, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2Buy one of these: http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/security/8cdd/
I got one, and it's perfectly nice. I was worried it would look all geeky and lame.. Not at all. Looks about like my old coach one that it replaced. The leather is a little lower quality than the coach one though. - nkassi, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2Their kids play hockey together.
- SavRabbit, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2Easy fix. Stick that new passport in the microwave for about 30 seconds when you get it. Unless the people at customs have forgotten how to read, sucker still works just fine. :D
- terminalcode, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2Yup,
I had posted this quite a few days ago see links on forums for more discussion.

and http://www.sploitcast.com/forums/index.php?showtop ... - catbeller, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2They will instantly pass a new law, or more likely the TSA will issue a new rule, that will put you in prison on the instant they detect a microwave altered-circuit.
- Useight, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2My new Visa card came with an RFID, so I told them to replace it with one without it. They sent me another one with RFID. I called again. Still waiting for a card without and then I have to figure out how to destroy my two RFID cards that I refuse to carry around with me.
- Stemnin, on 10/03/2008, -1/+2Could you do the rest of my dishes?
- Tiemmothi, on 10/06/2008, -0/+1My current passport is chip free, but expires in 2009, at which time, I will be getting issued an RFID. I'm not overly happy about it, and I have made this clear to my Congressional representatives, tho I doubt its going to change anytime soon, if at all.
- cheesecake42, on 10/03/2008, -2/+3they are still paper passports just with an rfid chip inside of it. but the state department says you must have the chip if you want to leave the country.
- catbeller, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1We are so dead.
- sconnor, on 10/04/2008, -0/+1:-)
- zvoidx, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1err "climatic".
- TomKarpik, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1Be very afraid.
- RSterkenburg, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1WHACK THE CHIP WITH A HAMMER. It's illegal - destruction of government property - but it works, and they will still accept your passport.
- ripejuice, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1don't think it works now.............dugg
http://letmehide.com - AlaskaLoneWolf, on 10/03/2008, -1/+2That was kick ass. I always wondered about that, and now I know. BTW, Elvis is still alive, he's got an Alaskan cabin; a nice place deep in the woods.
- catbeller, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1One thing of importance doesn't diminish another. Multitask. Look! TWO snipers!
- CrushThemTorg, on 10/04/2008, -0/+1Welcome to the internet. To your left are pictures of cats with funny captions.

- dvinnen, on 10/03/2008, -2/+2Much ado over nothing? Looks like all they did was write a cone chip. Not hard all that much a feat as the key is written in plain text inside the cover of the passport. Has anyone been able to crack the encryption without it yet?
Regulations say that it must still be reviewed by a human for forgery, no one relies on just a scanner. In the blog it was just to check in bags, couldn't get past security with it.
The issues with being able to tell if someone has a passport is a serious one, but you should be able alright as long as you keep the cover shut. No one has been able to just pluck your information out of the air. - desertcoffin, on 10/03/2008, -1/+0LoL! I love Elvis... so dugg, anyway
