Porn industry hard up for solutions to piracy problem

arstechnica.com — The porn industry has quietly coexisted with P2P services for many years, but some have decided that enough is enough. A group of industry members held a roundtable discussion on how to address piracy last week, with ideas ranging from posting screenshots of pirated content to adapting their business models to be more aggressive.

    The porn industry understands that their "talent" does something that most of the populace can do, they just need people who are willing to do it in front of a camera, and look good at the same time.

    What a joke - I assume the reason most people download porn on p2p is because they can do it in private (and for 'free'). Ownership of a t-shirt that advertises 'I bought porn' is not likely to improve sales. That's like STD clinics handing out baseball caps with 'I don't have the clap anymore!' logos after every treatment.

    Piracy is as big a concern for them as it is for any major content creator.

  • indicas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8unless you have been involved in the adult business i think it's hard to get a perspective on it. p2p and content theft is a very big problem. combined with other serious issues (spyware, fraud, etc), the profit margins are getting thinner and thinner.

    digg me down for going against piracy, but to think p2p doesn't affect the adult industry in a big way is just wrong.

Porn shops aren't shutting down left and right. Studios maybe, but let's be honest, is that P2P or just poor business practices? Porn drives technology and technology drives porn, I just don't get how P2P could really be that big of a problem for them.
