- bradwjensen, on 10/06/2008, -0/+77Is congress looking for a 'Civil War' in America, or something close to that? It sure looks like they want one, if not a war to bust out WWIII.
It seems like everything they do is ruining America, more and more. - inactive, on 10/06/2008, -4/+79They are preparing for martial law. This could not be any more clear. You should too.
- sliksta, on 10/06/2008, -5/+47Unconstitutional. Illegal. Immoral. Despicable. But bush is above the law. How about a big round of applause to everyone who voted for him.
- algaeturd, on 10/06/2008, -20/+61Here in AmeriKKKa, we're all guilty until proved innocent!
- thesubs, on 10/06/2008, -4/+34the country of the Free, free, free survailance for all...
- inactive, on 10/06/2008, -4/+32Obama voted for the bailout. Don't kid yourself.
- EatingPie, on 10/06/2008, -1/+27Please, don't just stop at the the next sentence to understand my point...
The domestic surveillance bills are not going to be a threat from the Bush administration themselves. They are the ones passing the bills, but not the ones to extensively USE -- and abuse -- the power given. The ones to watch out for, those who will really pose a threat to liberties in the US, are the administrations to follow. Be it Obama or McCain, and even their successors.
And I do realize the phone tapping has been used by the Bush administration, but again, that is only the tip of the iceberg.
-Pie - Waiting2awake, on 10/06/2008, -3/+23With all due respect - to expect a politician to save you from what politicians did is...well....
Obama is the flip side to McCain, in the same way that "heads" is the flip side of "tails".... but make no mistake about it - they are the exact same coin. - fadedangel, on 10/06/2008, -5/+24Dear yanks, when will you learn?
Regards,
The 'just as bad' brits. - borez, on 10/06/2008, -0/+18Fascist kleptocratic ***** (sic) .
Maybe you should have done a little more listening to the people wearing tin foil hats, it's far too late now. - Shaman760, on 10/06/2008, -4/+21I'm already prepared. My family thinks I'm nuts. They are republicans, so I forgive them for their lack of intelligence.
- MacBookForMe, on 10/06/2008, -0/+16...and they are talking about protecting Freedom...hahahahahhaaa...
- thereisnostate, on 10/06/2008, -2/+18Um.. the KKK are against Jews and the state of Israel. The Neocons who run the current junta in Washington put Israel first (see Iraq war) and the Patriot Act and other surveillance programs in place to collect information about dissenters who are against this Neocon ideology.
- x060t, on 10/06/2008, -0/+15It's not free - it's your tax money
- latrosicarius, on 10/06/2008, -0/+13They should change America's slogan from "land of the free" to "land of the secure".
"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both."
-- Attributed to Benjamin Franklin, 1759 - rcpmac, on 10/06/2008, -1/+13"doesn't sit well with some members of Congess, who in a sharply worded letter earlier this year expressed concerns that the NAO "raises major issues under the Posse Comitatus Act" barring the military from performing law enforcement duties, and worried the program could be used to "gather domestic intelligence outside the rigorous protections of the law—and, ultimately, to share this intelligence with local law enforcement outside of constitutional parameters."
"In October 2006, Bush signed into law the John Warner National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007. Quietly slipped into the law at the last minute, at the request of the Bush administration, were sections changing important legal principles, dating back 200 years, which limit the U.S. government's ability to use the military to intervene in domestic affairs. These changes would allow Bush, whenever he thinks it necessary, to institute martial law--under which the military takes direct control over civilian administration. - http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/09/24/ ... - Antiqua, on 10/06/2008, -5/+16I've been reading digg for at least a year now and I've noticed that anything to do with American policy tends to be depressing and points towards a very bleak future for us. This is no exception. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if military satellites are soon used by the NAO illegally only to be found out at a later date, especially if Bush were in office for another year or more. McCain meets my definition of Bush as well. Hopefully if/when Obama becomes the executive officer he won't allow the further degradation of our civil rights and liberties by the Congress and the federal agencies. Dang, now I'm all depressed.
- slvrbullet87, on 10/06/2008, -1/+12How about a big round of applause who voted for the people in congress who voted for this bill. Remember, the president has to wait for a bill to pass before he can sign it or veto it.
- protogenxl, on 10/06/2008, -0/+10Time to start mowing the Mooninites into the grass of Boston city parks.
- Jektal, on 10/06/2008, -0/+10In civilian privacy matters we're actually still just following in your footsteps. Although this satellite nonsense might put us in first...
- temporaryescape, on 10/06/2008, -0/+10I wouldn't call it civil war... more like a rebellion.
- cmapes2, on 10/06/2008, -0/+9Enemy of the State

- kc7eqo, on 10/06/2008, -0/+8Hummm..... sounds like the movie Enemy of the Sate. Very scary and sad.

- sigg14, on 10/06/2008, -0/+6get the people to finance their own enslavement, brilliant.
- repins, on 10/06/2008, -0/+6this is exactly how you get questionable measures through, the lame duck proposes them and they get passed....then when someone else takes over they can use it and blame the prior administraiton
.....classic... - billbugger, on 10/06/2008, -0/+6Bad Boys
- evil-doer, on 10/06/2008, -1/+7i prefer to call them zionazis
- RogerStrong, on 10/06/2008, -1/+7The US military has spent the last few years in Iraq learning how to deal with a well-armed insurgency. Good luck with that.
- cmapes2, on 10/06/2008, -1/+7You yourself are epically failing to see the point, the satellites are there to WATCH US, THE PEOPLE.
- stienster, on 10/06/2008, -0/+6DangerCollie>>>they don't 'think' they're combating 'terrorism'. WE are the terrorists in their eyes. So, they need to keep their almost all seeing eyes on us. And I'll tell you what: soon, they'll have plenty to see.
- Brallit, on 10/06/2008, -0/+6Or possibly a violent revolution... Any sort of uprising from oppression would be a dream come true these days.
- inactive, on 10/06/2008, -0/+6Our government is for our government. They are not for We the People. But alas, We the People keep voting these idiots back in. It is time to clean house. How are you going to vote?
- inactive, on 10/06/2008, -4/+10This is the same Obama who voted to extend the Patriot Act, and voted for the FISA compromise to expand the use of warrantless wiretapping against US citizens, right?
Yeah, I'm sure he'll really be fighting hard for our civil liberties.
/facepalm - inactive, on 10/06/2008, -0/+6We the People.... are the terrorists http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFBvN4hj6LE
- DangerCollie, on 10/06/2008, -4/+9Only the Bush administration would think that the way to combat terrorism is to spy on Americans. But, when you think about it, it's the same level of expertise they applied to financial regulation, the war on terror, dependence on foreign oil, disaster management and global warming.
Epic fail. - turpialito, on 10/06/2008, -0/+5Telescreens next.
- homer4199, on 10/06/2008, -0/+5WTF!! wait what was that movie with will smith?
- rcpmac, on 10/06/2008, -0/+5What you are saying is if you never exercise your civil liberties you haven't lost anything when they are limited by the government. Welcome to fascism. We currently live in a police state but if you GorgarFanClub just keep your head down and your mouth shut everything will be fine.

Bright side: I haven't gotten used to all the [daily] unconstitutional developments. - harrisbradley, on 10/06/2008, -0/+5My guess is that they know we're about to revolt.
