- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+42Dear Topic Headline: CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL.
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+33CAPS LOCK: CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL
- Jaq524, on 10/12/2007, -9/+34Any hacker that redirects from Netscape to digg is a good hacker in my book.
- Flankk, on 10/12/2007, -8/+32CAPS LOCK IS THE NEW SHIFT KEY!
- kayjay, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21I USE THE SHIFT BUTTON!
- leapingfrog, on 10/12/2007, -11/+28OH MAN THIS IS CRAZY (sorry, couldn't avoid the caps)
- UncommonSense, on 10/12/2007, -10/+24For the below-the-belt move that Netscape pulled in bribing Digg submitters to their wanna-be site, there is satisfaction in knowing that karmic justice has just bitch-slapped Netscape across the face.
- heinousjay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14This childlike tendency to spark internet rivalries is what makes me think Digg is populated mainly by 12 year olds with mild retardation. Why don't you kids stop being such ***** already? Who cares if another site wants users?
It's like watching a production of West Side Story with all the characters portrayed by the Star Wars kid. So many nerdy convulsions and twitches from you little whimpering pussy-babies, over and over and over.
Sorry I got so harsh there, I just don't like teenagers much and it seems like that's who spends their time here. - Tredici, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19Yeah, great. Let's stop now.
- bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I don't see how anybody could say that Netscape paying it's users is unethical. Especially since it's no secret that they will give you money to "work" for them. It's just business. Is it stupid, cheesy, and probably something that isn't even going to help them? Yes. But again, it's just business.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Apparently you're being dugg down for pointing out how ridiculous it is to hack something because the site isn't taking notice of your report. In a real-world situation, you'd be arrested as you pointed out. I'm digging you up, even if no-one else will.
- spooky760, on 10/12/2007, -10/+19THANK GOD THE HEADLINE IS IN ALL CAPS (What I am sure is one of many replies poking fun at submitters lack of caps lock control) :-)
- ziadoz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10***** is the word censored, its an English insult.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+19"Since my neighbor was being such a ***** and because he continued to ignore my warnings about them not using a good-enough lock on their doors, I decided to break open the door in the middle of the night and show everyone else in town how easily I could get in while they slept; if that didn't cause them to get a better lock, apparently nothing would."
There, fixed it for you. - ThisIsJames, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15"Since my local hotel owner was being such a ***** and putting hundreds of people in danger despite my warnings, I decided to walk inside, and post a sign that let people know that there the hotel wasn't as safe as they thought. If letting everyone know they were in danger didn't help, apparently nothing would."
There, fixed it for you :). - spooky760, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7To all those who say enough with the CAPS LOCK comments, I agree and am ashamed I joined in with the ridicule. This thread does not need any more CAPS LOCK, what it does need is more cowbell.
- bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8*****.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Good one... except holding a sign isn't illegal or unethical. Hacking is.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8RTFA you douchebags.
- ChewyBass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5ALL YOUR NETSCAPES BELONG TO DIGG.
- atmicrat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I thought netscape was a browser?
- heinousjay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Since my local hotel owner was being such a ***** and putting hundreds of people in danger despite my warnings, I decided to vandalize the lobby with advertisements for other hotels. I knew I was trespassing, and I knew the manager wouldn't like it, but I decided to be a douche and do it anyway because I'm a self-righteous prick."
There, made your fix realistic. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If he has used Digg or Slashdot to inform the public it would have been better than directly hacking himself.
- marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Sooo... who got fired from Netscape due to this? I mean filter XSS is web development 101.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I don't care how much it was reported to Netscape or what the motive was, script kiddies *SHOULD NOT* get attention like this. Ever. Fix the hole and ignore them, and maybe they'll grow up just a little bit faster.
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5If you need a new keyboard, I've got a few lying around. Damn, why does the caps lock key fail so often?
- mouthster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Electromagnetic, relax and take some meds man.
- electromagnetic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6No it's unethical to specifically advertise for a rivals staff, and as we could technically be classed as volunteers here then it is unethical. It's also called poaching, and is against a few laws for fair trade practices.
It wasn't that they offered pay for it, it's that they specifically want Digg's top contributors to be those getting paid. - Racso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This guy said he tried to tell Netscape about the issue several times and ways, some people can't listen to reason so you have to show them reason.
I don't know why you guys keep sarcastically saying that what he did was no different than telling a neighbor his locks suck only to break in. You can walk over to your neighbor and say directly to them that their locks suck, and whether or not they act on it is their problem, you did your part and nothing more need be done. In this case though, Netscape wasn't listening or rather, this guy couldn't even get through to them, so he just had to show them something they'd see.
My only gripe is the fact that, hey, it is Netscape, he should have just let them be valnerable to a real attack, letting them lose even more face.
Also, why are there so many /b/tards on digg? - bennyboy371, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"ARE," come on man! Get with the program!
- Jaq524, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10FYI- For those who wish to digg me down, I wasn't being completely serious. I would never resort to hacking someone else's website for the sake of competition, and if anything this just makes digg look bad. That was just my way of saying that in the Netscape vs. Digg wars, I'll take the side of Digg.
- osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ryno2 - Don't be so jealous ;)
heinousjay - I'm pretty much with you, except I don't just write off teenagers, I think it's the entire planet I can't stand. - richiejp, on 10/12/2007, -10/+12WHERES THE ALL IN CAPS REPORT BUTTON???
- geezusfreeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't see the big deal with offering money to post articles for Netscape. It's not evil, below-the-belt, sneaky, or potentially harmful to the public. Heck, if somebody could make a good business model by buying out people that would otherwise do it for free, so much the better for them. I don't see why this has resulted in so much Netscape bashing. I love Digg, but what's wrong with seeing people doing something they like for free and offering them money to do it for you?
- nessup, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2uhh... it's just an XSS exploit. Even script kiddies with little knowledge of web applications can do it, if motivated.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2OMG PONIES!!!!1!1!!!!!
- dcharti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Since Jason came up with a different idea and is the first person to build upon or duplicate any idea in the history of time, I hate him too! Long live digg! Long live all the other companies who were the first in their trade and therefore best and only companies who should ever be allowed to do what they do! Long live Ford! Long live Yahoo! Everyone else who builds on an industry with new ideas to make it better need to just pack up shop and go home!
- heinousjay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2They aren't trying to hire away staff. Visitors to Digg do so on a voluntary unpaid basis. That pretty much blows your whole comment out of the water.
The stupidity of this "rivalry" makes me shudder. Why do nerds get so hyperspastic over ***** like this? - krewemaynard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Used in a sentence (and caps FTW): "GET THE JELLY, *****!"
- geezusfreeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just read up a bit and found a similar comment along with replies.
I don't see it as poaching. Digg will not die just because the top posters start posting for Netscape. This is not an attack on anybody. The top posters on Digg were specifically targeted not to bring Digg down but just because there was an assumption that the top posters were also the best, and who wouldn't want the best posting articles for you? This is no different from an employer offering more money than your current one, except that in this case Digg doesn't even count as an employer. - AeonTorpor, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6I DO TOO< BUT SOMETIMES I"D WONDER WHY!
- hansamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yay for drama
- awhiteflame, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You, sir, are a genius.
- AeroGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, it says that he did try that (well, I don't think it mentioned Slashdot) but mods kept deleting thte stories he tried to post. Not taking a side here. Just wanted to clarify for those who didn't RTA.
- roeboedog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Funny that his post was "promptly deleted by a moderator" So basically if you post anything on netscape that makes them or the parent company look bad then it gets deleted I guees.
- akira117, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1MY CAPS LOCK IS STUCK ON I AM VERY SORRY.
I DO NOT MEAN TO LOOK LIKE I AM EXCITED OR ANGRY.
I JUST CAN NOT TURN THE DAM THING OFF. - vdxc, on 09/29/2008, -2/+2MPORCHERON'S COMMENT ON THE ARTICLE (at least he didn't go overboard with the exclamation marks and 1s) seriously though, 1 and a half months and they ignored it? Did they sack the developers to save up for the $1g/month scheme or something and therefore nobody was able to fix it?
- mingistech, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4haha.. i digg the spy shot looking into his geek room. :)
is that an apple keyboard and cinema display he's using? - alexrudloff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When it's a dupe of something that gets posted every 15 minutes, yeah, it's going to get killed.
- ziadoz, on 10/12/2007, -13/+12The hacker did this because they wanted to score an 'e-point' for Digg in the 'Netscape vs Digg wars'. Its a petty act and the last thing people should be doing is glorifying it with articles like this.
