- venir, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42Fitting, a former Microsoft employee is named Window...
- dbug, on 10/12/2007, -5/+34Using 'thumbs up' as your avatar is so lame!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19The "open source" developers she's telling to dump old/unused code are the ones on "salaries" that work for Mozilla. They'll do what she says because that's the way the real world works, whether the license says open source or not.
- noodlez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16old and unused are different things.
they're dumping unused features. - minimaximus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I think the more crucial question here is:
why would anyone call their child Window???? - aNoble, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I can see the headlines now...
"Window's Security Team Takes Over Firefox" - AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12And by that I mean that the browser is becoming so bloated it's suffering from the same symptoms it was created to cure.
- gmillerd, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Removing gopher for example, seems like a good idea to me.
- GiggleStick, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Very interesting. I was making a joke, since people were mentioning she was a spy because she used to work at MS. After I typed it, I thought, I bet a bunch of knuckle-heads will take me seriously and tell me it's open-source (which is why I made the joke for the obvious silliness of it).
So to prove that I wasn't serious, and that it was a joke, I appended a french phrase that translates to "Would you like to bite it?", meaning the hook. Apparently you did.
Everyone is so quick to jump on people here, that they can't even get a joke. Mark Twain said a joke is like a frog, you can learn a lot by dissecting it, but you kill it in the process. Unfortunately, on digg, if you don't explain your joke, everyone self-righteously tells you why you are wrong. Sigh...... - bobbyi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yeah, this is good. IE has been doing the same thing recently, for example removing gopher support and the "media pane" in XP SP2. Getting rid of rarely-used code rather than having it sit there to get exploited somehow years later is good for everyone so it's nice to see Firefox starting to do the same.
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Which was one of the things they were supposed to be doing since splitting up the Mozilla Suite. Sounds like they got a bit sidetracked...
That's one of the "problems" with open source, I think. Coding new features and improving existing features is "sexy", but not very many people like cleaning up... - cmilki, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Um, Microsoft can get the source code anytime they want. I believe the source code is released under an Open Source license.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Live in California for awhile. I personally know a Dusty Rhodes, Phillip deBong, Helena Handbasket, Rain Meadow, and Dirt Bridges.
Though actually Helena's actual name is Helena Hann Basket... and Phillips last name is spelled deBahn or something like that. - iceblade, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Just look how happy he is after she told him she was removing her "unused" features.
- linuxpenguin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@Cl1mh4224rd:
The point of Firefox was for them to make *just* a browser - ie, without the IRC client, e-mail program, and WYSIWYG HTML editor that Mozilla has.
And as for not "cleaning up" being a problem with open-source. . . well, it's a problem for closed-source programs too. That's why Vista's taking so long. - sremick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5More pics:

- cmilki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I believe the foundation Spyglass was from Mosaic whose developer started Netscape which released source code as Open Source and was reborn as Mozilla which in turn gave birth to Firefox.
So yeah ? - shotgunefx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I met a guy named Hutch Hutchinson and a kid named Robbit Bobbit
WTF? - dbug, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Is that her?
http://www.securite.org/csw/core03/49.jpg - Giever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I know a "Penny Horr" Thankfully, her parents decided not to take the advice of their older son and name her "Crack," =P
- bluekangaroo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Window Snyder? Are they going to hire Apple Paltrow next?
- MrViklund, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I wish them good luck and looking forward to see some results.
- GiggleStick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is this like one of those new SPAMs that makes no sense to try to get around the filters or something? I'm having trouble making sense of it. Maybe I'm short in the Ducats department.
- Giever, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's funny that, even after you explain it, your original post continues to get dugg down, while the one explaining it gets dugg up. Are they not saying the same thing?

- noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know. On one hand, it's a good idea, security-wise. On the other hand, you have to remember that some of those feartures are probably still used, just rarely.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/windowsnyder/58200599/ - spectre_25gt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is the extension system powerful enough to implement gopher? If so, it would mean a lot less reason for people being annoyed at the code being removed.
- pauldonnelly, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I have a theory that the people who are too dumb to track down the reply button are also too dumb to detect humor.

I am just say'in your going to have to pay to play with anything MS - Giever, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Wait, do you mean that you now think less of digg? Or you thought less of digg, and then this happened? From the way you said it, it sounds like you thought that way all along, if so, then why would anyone care?
- onidraky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's what I'm worried about, but I'm sure it won't happen, hopefully.
- GiggleStick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Microsoft isn't involved. Someone who used to work for MS is. But that's it. Are you on the right article?
- levi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Its not like they can't just look at it now it is open source.
- fatas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Damn now we know why Mozilla would hire an ex-Microsoft Security employee.
- CircleFusion, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1ok, I had to look that one up.
and, of course, throwing Window out of a window would not make sense. - synwolf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The execution wasn't exactly Mitch Hedberg-worthy...

I am just say'in your going to have to pay to play with anything MS - burndive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I can't believe so many people thought GS was seriously that ignorant and were just itching to jump in and correct the supposed error.
- Heembo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3She can tell me what do to, anyday! Hot geek chicks, I'm down!
- Klowner, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4I sure wouldn't defenestrate her.
- AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5Firefox needs a new Firefox.
- digdug2020, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2i hope that you realize that firefox source is open for anyone to look at.
