- t2t2, on 01/15/2008, -6/+63So the greatest hackers of our era are high-school students, not cookie-baking moms & their daughters?
- KillerStone, on 01/15/2008, -2/+46Major props to this Ethan kid. I'm glad theres people like him out there working for my well being as opposed to the RIAA who continue to treat their (ex) customer as a criminal.
- inactive, on 01/15/2008, -2/+28***** Media Defender & RIAA & MPAA.
- adamrgolf, on 01/15/2008, -1/+17well aren't you a little fkr
- HacKing, on 01/15/2008, -9/+19Can we stop with the XKCD on Digg? Just asking a rhetorical question.
- chrispr, on 01/15/2008, -0/+9No biggie, if he's in highschool, he's probably still under 18.
- Osjpr, on 01/15/2008, -0/+8In some ways it sucks that these students are the only thing standing between us and our enslaved future.
- Murdats, on 01/15/2008, -2/+10that is the stupidest question ever.
- Eeqmcsq, on 01/15/2008, -0/+8But in other ways, it's great to know that all it takes are these students to keep us from our enslaved future.

Just found ^, so they more or less invented a type of P2P, and now try to control it - Pplus, on 01/15/2008, -0/+3The actual article is great: http://www.portfolio.com/news-markets/national-new ...
I don't know why this is linked to a short synopsis. - inactive, on 01/15/2008, -1/+4The actual article is at: http://www.portfolio.com/news-markets/national-new ...
- spyrochaete, on 01/15/2008, -0/+3A MediaDefender uploaded the emails to his gmail account where they were later intercepted. He did this from inside the firewall. A 15 foot concrete wall is useless if you don't lock the gate behind you.
- spyrochaete, on 01/15/2008, -0/+3There's a lot more to it than that. If top/high level pirates were only interested in money then how could the scene have flourished in the BBS days? Back then the only people getting rich off of piracy were the phone companies - the warez couriers would dial long distance to download and distribute 0-day goodies.
If you don't know, don't assume. Believe it or not the silent army of digital disseminators do what they do for something much more fulfilling than money. - hellotyler, on 01/15/2008, -1/+4No.
- open_sauce, on 01/15/2008, -3/+6“In the beginning, I had no motivation against Monkey Defenders” he said. “It wasn’t like, ‘I want to hack those bastards’. But then I found something, and the good nature in me said, These guys are not right. I’m going to destroy them.”
What a quote! - appletalk, on 01/15/2008, -2/+4I'm afraid that if the FBI is after him, they'll get him, sooner or later =(
- Narcowski, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2Yeah, but Patriot Act.
- spyrochaete, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2Yes, but I don't think it was an executive. Probably a techie. The emails didn't have a common recipient so the individual had to have access to the central repository.
- PawnsOfJoshua, on 01/15/2008, -4/+6This is awesome. Damn the man! ***** neo-fascist corporate vampires got what they deserved, and it brings me terrible pleasure. That is exactly what *should* happen to anyone who tries to regulate or control the free exchange of ideas and/or data. When are these idiots gonna learn better than to try and make money by defending us all from insidious h@ck3rz? Note - the use of the word "insidious" here is highly facetious...
- TheShockwave, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1Yep and thank god that there aren't things like juvenile halls or being tried as an adult. That would be a real shame.
- Vodd9, on 01/15/2008, -2/+3They had it comming.
- inactive, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Not only us. Remember Tiananmen Square.
Phillip. - hockey, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Hyperbole much?
Al Capone was a career mobster who got his jollies having his enemies gunned down. - camg188, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1As I recall, he didn't hack into MediaDefender's computers, but rather one of the executive's Gmail account that he had been forwarding all his email to. Is this the story I'm thinking about?
- KlogereEndGrim, on 01/15/2008, -1/+2Why are we not presented with any evidence that this is the real deal? The ONLY thing we have to rely on here is this journalists word.
And I don't know about you, but I don't trust journalists that much... - zerodaysoon, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Randy Saaf:
" Look how ape ***** the digg community went over the hd dvd crack code post getting pulled from the site.
http://digg.com/news/popular/24hours
People sure love their pirated movies "
We sure do!! well at least me lol - hockey, on 01/15/2008, -1/+1And if Media Defender would have had a decent firewall we wouldn't be here with all the "screw the man" and "down with the man" posts and what not.
- avonwodahs, on 01/15/2008, -1/+1The Proletarians will be taking down, we will unite!
- blazer425, on 01/15/2008, -2/+1This story just warms my heart.
- duffblue, on 01/15/2008, -3/+1Not at all.
- Waskonator, on 01/15/2008, -3/+1This is awesome. Like a modern day Al Capone.
- antdude, on 01/15/2008, -5/+3If you don't like it, then leave. :P
- fkr3, on 01/15/2008, -10/+1NO.
I'm a full-grown one. I even have hair on my chest. - fkr3, on 01/15/2008, -27/+11If you buy one song and take a thousand others you're not much of a customer.
The kid's got the FBI after him, his future involves a whole lot of *****. ThePirateBay are continually trying to shift their users to strictly-legal sites so when they are shut down - not if - they can continue making massive amounts of money which is the only reason they offer TPB anyway.
The funny thing is you guys think you're fighting some kind of fight.... the reality is the only fighting is to see who can get the biggest chunk of ad revenue off you guys. - manga777, on 01/15/2008, -44/+0halo3 halo3 halo3 halo3 halo3 halo3 halo3 halo3 halo3 halo3 halo3 halo3 halo3 halo3 halo3 halo3 halo3 halo3 who loves halo3 come on its the best :)
