- Burns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They should create a toolbar that will run an aleart when the page is one of those bad ones
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"we" ? oooOOOooo mr. MIT bigshot.... i'm scared i really am... shaking in my pants.
lol - Tkkt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Burns, do you hail from Slashdot? Because it's obvious you didn't RTFA. SiteAdvisor promotes a firefox plugin that queries it's database about a site's functionality. You're informed about if they'll spam your email or if downloads they link to may have spyware.
http://siteadvisor.com/preffinstall.html - foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0or, burns, you could just install spybot and immunize your system. it blocks known bad sites in ie. although, i don't think spybot's immunization feature works in firefox. too bad.
- IncognitoCraven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Not only is it a dupe in neither case you could the posters get the title right. This is *not* being done by MIT, but a startup.
- Netweb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Try searching Digg for Siteadvisor, This Digg entry does not come up and will get buried. Can you try to make things like this ‘search’ friendly?

Anyone noticed the all the stuff they are trying to shovel through user's throat lately?
And yet they claim they don't have any before downloading - BlackPhantom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Already been submitted a few days ago...

- Osiriscky3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1not only is it a dupe it is a blog and last time i check posting blogs is against TOS
no digg....reported - riddlebox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lets this coward jack off that hes on the front page, after stealing a story. There is a cancel button next to the submit anyways;)...LMAO, and also it is against terms of service:D
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They examine a bunch of screensavers, warez clients, and smiley faces thingies for IM and find out it contains spyware and malware. wtf? How is this information supposed to be useful?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"because it's not fair to steal other peoples diggs"
digg isn't for some digg stats, its to share interesting stuff
go play some rpg if you want to drool over your numbers - foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0lol, engalicorn!
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0All I can say is, wow, i'm glad none of that effects me.
And I hope it never will, because the Mac community will definitely not tolerate it and it will be the start of an all out war against these people. = ) - Snarfalunch, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7Dupe
http://digg.com/software/MIT_examining_your_favorite_spyware - Rikushix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0interesting to say the least.
- wallclimber, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Dupe or not, doesn't matter. It's a good web site with good information. Maybe they will help some of the folks out in userland to STOP downloading the smilies and the wallpaperscreensaverwhatever junk that infests their computers. It all looks so innocent to those who don't know what to beware of. I like these guys and think they've done a great job.
- chrisdixon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Hi. My name is Chris Dixon and I'm a co-founder of SiteAdvisor. We wrote the blog entry on blog.siteadvisor.com referrenced by ecb29. We really appreciate the interest from the community, but I just want to make it clear that while we have a number of people who work with us who have degrees from MIT (including my two co-founders), our company is not formally associated with MIT, and the blog entry referenced was created and published by SiteAdvisor alone.
Thanks,
Chris - nomdeplume, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0By way of example, [...] you agree not to use the Services: [...] to submit stories or comments linking to [...] sites/blogs repurposing existing stories (source hops) [...]
I presume that's the part being referenced by osiriscky3 to say this is against the TOS. As far as I can tell, the blog that was linked to IS the original story. There isn't any other source to link to.
That said, it was even less interesting than I thought it would be. Still, obviously there are a lot of people out there that DO install these obvious adware bombs, otherwise they wouldn't be so prevalent. - engalicorn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0thats what i was thinking lol
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0does firefox even have a restricted sites list? it doesn't, does it? well, that's just crap. ie and opera do.
- riddlebox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Although its ***** this is a dupe, At least it makes it to the front page was my only concearn, I have battled most of these ***** spyware ad's while working on clients computers. I know MIT isnt doing the reasearch, but a startup company. I put MIT to get more eyes on the story. But this guy got it instead all is fair in posting wars.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0against TOS ???? i dont think so ! this good post
