- DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope you people boycotting Sony won't buy the PS3 either. i know I am, but mostly because of the hardware issues that the previous generations have had.
Oh and...
SUPPORT INDEPENDENT MUSIC!!! Free yourself of trojans and unweidly DRM!! - Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How dare they defile a Trey cd. +digg.
- SuperBeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1looks like they installed root-kit on about 12 computers
- xeeton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The biggest BS line ever: "This is exactly why I refuse to buy music."
It's not like the original reason for stealing music was because all purchased music installs a root-kit on your computer. It is only now that people have a "reason" to steal it. - kryptogrowl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2the people listening to Celine Dion deserve it.
- saifrc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No good artists? They list a Gerry Mulligan CD on that list -- probably the only famous jazz bari sax player, and a great composer.
Still wouldn't buy the CD. Not because I run Windows (I don't), but because I don't buy CDs anymore. (Plus, I think I've got it on vinyl somewhere...) - unclejesse0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Darn, I just listened to the new switchfoot cd. I wish I had a mac.
- tube013, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Any tips on contacting the artists?
- qwertme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh no!!! Celine Dion is on the list!
Now I can't realize my life long dream of buying one of her CDs!
Darn it! - jman420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was sad to see the TREy cd defiled in such a way. Guess its more live show downloads for myself.
- aznbond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good, a list to download.
- suMMx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0damn it, i knew i shouldnt have bought that ricky martin cd
- cyberfelon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Z by My Morning Jacket is another good album on that list if any of you feel like downloading some new music.
- panic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would suggest boycotting all these CDs.. but seriously.. who the hell is going to buy these to begin with.
- hemidurango, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why a list? We need to boycott ALL Sony/BMG titles. Surgical strikes don't cut it in this battle. Collateral damage is more than acceptable in this case.
- vdub12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't just boycott sony boycott the industry. its there fault. I have not paid for a cd in about 5 years and before that I would get at least 2 a week. This is hurting there bottom line and they need to feel the pressure get higher.
- JoshuaH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0they rooted my Chris Botti..I honestly have no idea who most of these people are...
- znxster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice list, nice photos to help identify... my eyes are opened a touch more... +digg
- pillfred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol Life of Agony. yet not really so funny.
- jediboytj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Macs are immune. As usual :-)
- Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think I'm safe, I've never heard of most of those artists and the 2 or 3 I have heard of I wouldn't be caught dead listening to. (not that I'd be listening if I were dead)
- Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Not immune....more like "neglected" just like when Mac users bitched about how Google Earth didn't have Mac support. If this was a sweet application that everyone wanted but was only available for Windows, you'd be bitching right now.
- Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Has anyone noticed that many of those albums can also be purchased at iTunes (minus the rootkit of course.) If Sony ever succeeds in pulling the plug on Apple, they'll in fact be pulling the plug on their own life support because no one is going to buy those worm infected Cd's now.. At least no one in their right mind.
- damonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We all know that the artists see little if NONE of the money from these sales. And the DRM from Sony is just pissing them off. I say we all start using www.allofmp3.com and screw the labels. No DRM there...
- dylanA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0does anyone have a full list or, at least a longer list than this?
- Singee15, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ricky Martin...RICKY MARTIN!! WHO in GODS name is trying to rip Ricky Martin to later distribute it on p2p networks?!
I can only hope that the sony 'phone home' feature of the root kit lets sony know so they can track him down, do him a favor, and kill him. - Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually I should correct myself. I said 'worm' infected cd's. I really meant trojan infected. Well anywho if you actually buy a Sony CD now, somethings really wrong with you.
- Incognito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0***** SONY BMG
- Jibberish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"How dare they defile a Trey cd. +digg."
I absolutely agree... - shade73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm Boycotting them!! Oh wait, I've been boycotting record labels for 2 years now.. So who's going to be the first one to sue them? I hope they get billions from sony!
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmmm... This must be a Sony artist
49 1/5 cent
"Get Root or Die Tryin" - jdgtrplyr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They stuck a root-kit on Switchfoot? And Acceptance?!
Amazing records, ***** Sony/BMG! - Dgen_X, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was a little worried after I saw Life of Agony on there...my GF has that cd, but luckily she's 100% sure that she's never inserted it into a computer
whoo...now I just need to see the entire list, because I have no idea where all my cd cases are! - Clazor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0BOYCOT
- Clazor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ever notice how wierd that word is
- J03L, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The funny thing about gloating mac users is that root-kits first showed up in UNIX (read Mac/OSX) systems.... the only reason that Sony chose to use root-kits for win-doze is because the market share is enormously overwhelming in favor of windows. Your mac problems have now come to haunt even windows users. Prove me wrong.
- scubasteve03, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The good news is that you have to have poor taste in order for the root kit to be installed ;)
- cr0wbar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't beleive I actually own one of these cds (Life of Agony) I saw it try to install something so I ran windows system restore, it evidently worked as I don't have the rootkit on my system.
- lindababy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone happen to know if Sarah Mclachlan's "Afterglow Live" has the Rootkit DRM software or just 'regular' DRM software? I accidentally installed their DRM software when I inserted the CD (this was over a year ago). I sent them an email back then asking for an uninstaller, and they sent me a link, which of course only worked in IE (Active X). When I spotted this story a couple of weeks ago, I attempted to use the 'fix' they sent but it had expired! It is from a company called Suncomm.
- mr_england, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0haha it seems that every news site or any site i go to has this sony rootkit story on it. i hope that sony lands right flat on their ass for #1 putting a trojan on a cd, and overcharging for CD's. Everyone knows the artist only gets about 5 cents a CD anyhoo. I mean who buys Cd's really any way. most modern CD players come with CDr/RW readability so just d/l from bit torrent or p2p and burn with nero or sth
- Digg4all, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I find it interesting that no one has noticed this with their dvd line. All I have heard about is music, but as I recently found out they have DRM root kits on the dvd's that physically stopped my dvd drive from spinning. I was copying a legally bought movie over to my zen vision and my drive kept stopping. I thought my drive broke, but no it was my confidence in sony's products. I think I am done buying Sony.
- Aknot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Did anyone notice that G4TV.com's Attack of the Show has a segment called Frugality and they are offering 10% off Sony CD purchases. I used to watch that show for the information, now I watch when I am bored and need a laugh.
- anthonyretro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Damn my love of The Bad Plus! Sony hit me.
- jk_baller23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0just get your music from itunes....
Sony seems to be going downhill anyway. - willgonz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll just rip them with Linux, OSX86, XBOX or XBOX 360.
- edmicman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't understand....why would you "install" software in the first place to listen to it on your computer?? Are people that stupid??
- ninetynine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0aren't they putting it on DVDs as well?
