- AhronZombi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10ebaums is just rip offs from other sites spam popups spyware and viruses. call that success?
- stevo101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"Lets take this stupid war "Ebaum vs ytmnd" out of digg.com
Mark it lame.No Digg."
Wait - remove a pefectly neutral article which describes the whole thing quite clearly just because the subject matter revolves around something you dont agree with? thats crazy. i was glad to finally understand what everyones been talking about this past day. whats wrong with that?
oh yeah, to the guy above - the wikipedia page is working fine. it had been defaced but i just checked and theres nothing wrong with it :) - DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"If the allegations are true, then there's scope for a class action from copyright holders"
Except that the sites that he has pissed off are in no position to complain about copyright violations. The copyright to the Lindsey Lohan pictures in question belong to none of these sites and are probably owned by a magazine or photographer who would be the only one in a position to bring a lawsuit. - jpfinch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yea, it's kinda dumb, but i did really enjoy http://www.ebaumsworldsucks.com
I won't participate, but I won't shed any tears if Ebaum's little world goes to hell, either. - timewarrior, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://ebaumsworld.com/lohanfacial.html

http://lohanfacial.ytmnd.com/ - TheTrueSora, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You gotta love this.... ytmnd!
- leetsauce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Ebaumsworld really sucks.
- dj_sea2005, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3this sounds like a job for!....
http://lolinternetwar.ytmnd.com/ - DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Anyone else have the Lemon Demon song on http://www.ebaumsworldsucks.com stuck in their head?"
Yeah, as much as I find the whole situation childish and moronic, it allowed me to discover Lemon Demon, who make some pretty catchy, TMBGish style tunes. - Cowboy5995, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So you are saying that when Ebaum puts a water mark on a video that means that he was the one that filmed all of those videos. I dont think he puts the water mark on things because he is claiming that it is his but as a way to promote the site. If someone downloads the video of p2p and they want to know where they can go and find more things like it.

Exactly. He's a whore like that. - Catharsis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone else have the Lemon Demon song on http://www.ebaumsworldsucks.com stuck in their head?
- wearescience, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wow...so I love seeing Nerd vigilante justice but is there anyway we could focus our talents on better causes? I mean what percentage of people attacking ebaums because they steal content were downloading torrents of 40 year old virgin at the same time?
- plkrtn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3There is a massive difference between taking copyrighted material and manipulating it as your own work, and taking a piece of copyright material and slapping your name on it.
Its like sampling on hip-hop records.... You can take some of the song and rearrange it... but if Puff Daddy had literally taken Sting's "I'll be missing you" and re-released it as his own..... - Dynamoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It was a good article.. I wondered exactly what all the fuss was about with ebaumsworld. Why are the allegations a big deal? Well, if you've ever had your intellectual property ripped off by someone else then you'll understand. It's a bigger deal because (according to Alexa), ebaumsworld.com is in the top 500 most popular sites on the web, pulling in perhaps 250,000 visitors per day. If the allegations are true, then there's scope for a class action from copyright holders. Could be interesting to watch.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What's a "ytmnd"?
- BuddyDoQ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sweet, I can't wait for the comical flash movie remake of all this next week. I wonder if ebaum will host it...
The Internet can be a very scary place. - harmlessinc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2For those that missed it - eBaum actually removes watermarks from the people that make the content on his site and replace it with his own...
He goes on to claim that if it is online it is public domain, which is a horrible misunderstanding of how copyright law actually works. - AhronZombi, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5kill ebaums. diggarmy do your dirty work
- ConfusedONE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Still he doesn't reference where he got the material. Don't make a buck off of other people's work unless you give them proper credit and possibly a small cut.
- jwalk81980, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love ytmnd. Lohan picture appears to be hosted on eBaum. How is it a DoS? Maybe he was leeching at first, then hosted it. Oh well. Don't care.
- Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Lindsay Lohan doesn't change facial expression"
So she's a one trick pony. So long as she keeps turning that trick. - Sidedish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This seems like the kind of thing people used to solve a lot faster by finding the guy's house.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it's kinda ironic that this boils down to an argument over whether someone can claim ownership or authorship of remixed (or perhaps stolen) content authored by someone else who's received no credit.
- Tweekster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you know what this reminds me of;
last week i was in the park and saw two guys kissing, and that was the gayest thing i have ever seen until i saw this flame war. - avonej, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I believe the difference lies in the fact that thoe torrenters are not making a profit from what they are doing. Additionally, the material on Ebaum's World generally isn't available for purchase, which automatically makes it a different situation in and of itself.
Eric Baumen and his staff deliberately go to sites who's users create content for free, lift the creations and watermark them as their own, then reap in the advertising revenue from the legions of people who visit the site daily. The two situations you drew connections between are totally different from each other. - pacificdave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ebaumsworld isn't the only site taking originating watermarks off vids/pics and replacing it with their own. i can name a handful off the top of my head. they're all losers. host the vids on your own server and give credit where it's deserved!
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://digg.com/links/Digg_Effect_on_Ebaums_world
- rompom7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ahh I didn't bother submitting this cause I thought no one would digg it.
- theblackgecko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Lohan gif would be protected, considering that it's a parody of Lohan.
Consider a song by Weird Al Yankovich. When Weird Al does the recording, it is a parody and therefore protected under free speech laws. On the other hand, if I were to release Weird Al's song under my name, that would not be protected under free speech law. - fuzzycasserole, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ebaum is an *****, it's really that simple. I mean, why can't he just give credit? It's not like anyone believes *he* made it, but he goes through the trouble to actually REMOVE other watermarks. ***** him.
- albel65, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have a good plan, we F5 him to death. I mean it, if it can slow down a school server, think of the damage of what 1000-fold of the people who participated would to a stealer like eric(who doesn't deserve a capital letter BTW hehe).
I have no idea what im talking about...caffine. - patjamas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Practically all the content on ytmnd is stolen from somewhere by the users, but a lot of it has people use photoshopping talents/sound editing. i think its worse when ebaum steals from somethingawful or fark or the newgrounds users because generally those sites have more original stuff and he passes it off as being originally from him. i guess ytmnd just had more 'm4d h4xx0rz' users.
- gODfall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't care who stole it the important part is that i got to see it.
I never knew what the hype about ebaum, WAS cool but there's better out there now. - cron186, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1if u try to go to ebaums now it redirects to Pr0n.
nice - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Holy crap. I'd never even heard of ytmnd.com before. That site's got some FUNNY ***** on it. I really digg the whole war thing, even if it's over some retarded *****. Everyone loves a good ass wooping...
- curunculus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh and using webzip is perfectly legal youre just downloading his site for "local use"
- HPSauce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow... "grow up speech" x million, I reckon. For starters, it's a simple gif of a collage of photos. Second, if it were a copyright matter, it would be between the author of the image and the site that hosted it. And that's a big if.
- kamau84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1All of these fools are stealing ***** from people who actually create all this stuff anyway. Internet nerd war? WOW! Just... just WOW! Lame as hell.
- LUElinks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey, LUE from Gamefaqs, and LUELinks.net were invading as well. Over 10,000 users on these boards.
- Webjunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There may be a few bad apples, but SA has attacked no one. Please be responsible and stop saying they have.
- Tiak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Okay... Considering these sites are basicly all the same anyway, there's only one quote that can truly be acceptable to discribe this occurance... "Begun this clone war has"
- fuzzycasserole, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@pixelface: I think you missed the point. While fark and ytmnd users at least modify/spice up the content that they take, eBaum blatantly steals and then does not change the content.
- linuxrebel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1(to the tune of "My dogs better than yours, the Kennel Ration Song")
My sites better than your site
My sites better than yours
My sites better 'cause it's the first to steal it
My sites better than yours!
This is about as dumb as if Microsoft and Apple where to go to blows over who invented the GUI. (Both btw copied from Xerox Park) Arrrrrrggggghh - plkrtn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I'd love to give Lohan a facial.... :-P
- Lax32, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1He really had it coming to him for taking EVERYTHING ON HIS WEBSITE from other places. Just happened to screw with the wrong people this time....
- 1ivewire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@linuxrebel
That's Xerox PARC not Park, though there may be a park there too. - Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"I have no idea what this is all about."
Exactly what I was thinking
"Um... been to a college lately? Everyone knows about these sites."
um, no I haven't I graduated 3 years ago. So to someone not in college no, everyone doesn't know about these sites. I've never heard of any of them. -
