"Russia: Again Savior of Peace and Life
The international community collectively held their breath waiting for the reaction of Russia after the savage, brutal, criminal attack by Georgia on South Ossetia." - Murrabbit, on 08/11/2008, -0/+15Cyberwar sure does sound neat, but for my part I'd be a lot more worried about the bombs being dropped on civilian residential areas.
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -1/+14In regards to flogistan:
That last denial of service attack on a country caused banks to stop routing money, newspapers to stop reporting news to the outside world, and communication was sporatic.
This is not a matter to take lightly.
So you can blame a conspiracy to start war, or that someone "MADE" Russia invade... or take a look at past and present facts and stop your rhetoric. - c0mputar, on 08/11/2008, -5/+17Look at the broader scheme of things all you want, because I too agree with Russia's sinister agenda. However, the focus of the anti-russian propaganda is about how Russia invaded Georgia, and that Georgia is the victim. Georgia made the mistake of provoking the bear, and that bear has international legitimacy from the UN to defend SOssetia... and now Georgia has given Russia the excuse to try and capitalize on the situation and gain control of the oil pipelines. However, that is unlikely to happen because no one wants Russia to gain control of those pipelines, and so Georgia may have successfully sucked the US into this diplomatically, or militarily.
There are so many foreign agendas that are focused on Georgia that it's nearly impossible to forecast what the future beholds. - c0mputar, on 08/10/2008, -26/+38Separatists Rebels? Oh the people that started fighting after there cities were being bombed by the Georgians? It's cyberwar not only on these country's websites, but also on digg to deal with all the stinking articles that reek of biased anti-russian propaganda that the western media have been spitting out.
- Archon810, on 08/11/2008, -2/+14A Russian city? Maybe you should brush up on your geography. Tskhinvali belongs to Georgia, not Russia. Yes, Russia wants to get a hold of it and gave 90% of the people there passports (did they ask for them?) but it'd be like Canada giving the state of Washington Canadian passports, then Washington revolting against the US government, and Canada protecting their "citizens". Do you see what I'm talking about here?
I'm not one to defend either side yet, the Georgian killings are reportedly brutal, but get the facts straight.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Ossetia - AeroMerde, on 08/11/2008, -2/+13"Oh the people that started fighting after there cities were being bombed by the Georgians?"
No, they were fighting before that. Why do you think the Georgians did that in the first place?
Are you seriously so dense that you think that the west is concerned with putting out anti-Russian propaganda more than Russia is concerned with putting out pro-Russia propaganda?
Which nation, again, poisons people with rare radioactive isotopes for speaking out?
I understand having a problem with the western MSM because they can be pretty bad sometimes, but it's nothing compared to Russian media. - brheath, on 08/11/2008, -3/+13Russia has been at least accused of doing something similar to Estonia about a year ago. Here's the link:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2007/may/17/topsto ... - inactive, on 08/11/2008, -0/+7I'm pretty sure the US would be willing to let one of its pawns get taken off the board rather then risk losing the entire game.
- Sfenton, on 08/11/2008, -1/+7Are conspiracy theorists saying USA is the root and cause of this violence.
- jorichter, on 08/10/2008, -1/+7It's really interesting that this form of attack has become a type of weapon in war. It's funny how mankind can turn anything into a weapon, even a "series of tubes."
- CaptSolo, on 08/11/2008, -3/+8"Georgia made the mistake of provoking the bear, and that bear has international legitimacy from the UN to defend SOssetia... and now Georgia has given Russia the excuse to try and capitalize on the situation and gain control of the oil pipelines."
Russia has worked hard on keeping the situation in the region hot and supporting rebels who were constantly attacking Georgia. Basically, Russia set out a trap (rebels attacked before Georgia responded) and Georgia walked right into it. Sad, but true.
Timing it together with the start of Olympic games, when media attention is turned away, sounds like work of Russia's strategists.
About legitimacy from the UN: the U.S. and partners are preparing a resolution accusing Russia but it is clear that Russia will veto any UN resolution which put a part blame on it. In their words they are "bringing freedom" and "keeping peace" in the region (and seeking to displace Georgia's democratically elected president, too). - AReallyGoodName, on 08/11/2008, -1/+6It isn't that black and white. It's not like the first battle occured on August 8.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_South_Ossetia_Wa ... - brheath, on 08/11/2008, -1/+5Although the source of the attack is questionable (the reason I said "accused"), DoS Attacks are easily verifiable events. To say that, "no this event never happened, the websites were up and running the entire time" is disillusionment and naivety.
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -1/+5true, I've seen tons of ***** net articles from both sides... that's what this is about right? ;p
- tehxen3, on 08/11/2008, -4/+8I saw it on Digg, it must be true.

- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -0/+3Welcome to modern warfare. It the civilians that pay. The ones in power just have fun pushing buttons and throwing orders around. It's like a really expensive game of chess, except your chess pieces bleed and scream when taken.

Seems like Digg has already been compromised. - jdago, on 08/11/2008, -0/+3its all insanity, where the only ones who really get hurt are the innocent on both sides.
- o0joshua0o, on 08/11/2008, -2/+5You didn't side with Russia when they were FIGHTING THE NAZIS???
- inku, on 08/11/2008, -1/+4The DoS attacks against our government websites did happen. And in the light of the April riots, it is quite clear that Russia was behind it.
There is a reason they're setting up a cyber defence centre in Tallinn.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7401260.stm - sildude, on 08/11/2008, -1/+4Judging from Russias actions, what they want is a 100 dead georgian civilias for every killed ossetian and a 1000 for every russian soldier. And why are they targeting civilian infrastructure if they're only peacekeepers? They should accept the ceasefire offered by Georgia. The battle is won, georgian troops are out of South-Ossetia. Why continue this ridiculous war?
- waydee, on 08/11/2008, -0/+3It seems to me that Russians are pissed off that this is getting so much attention and their actions are being judged by the world.
I'm reading BBCs reports on this and see no stinking anti-Russian propaganda and have yet to find a report that doesn't make mention of Georgias part in all of this. - waydee, on 08/11/2008, -0/+3Georgian troops are pulling out so why are Russian planes and artillery still bombing Georgian cities?
Why are BBC reporters almost getting bombed in Gori? Seems to me that Russia is also disregarding a ceasefire. - inactive, on 08/11/2008, -0/+21) I wasnt alive to side with anyone ;)
2) I sided with Soviet Russia because it was the lesser of two evils. - appleseed1234, on 08/11/2008, -2/+4Pull your head out of your ass.
- sildude, on 08/11/2008, -0/+2We'll see what happens next.
Whats certain, though, is that this thing will escalate into a catastrophe if both sides do not take urgent measures to stop their military actions. Russia needs to call off his airstrikes and stop his advance into Georgia. Georgia must stop his units from attacking. IF they are attacking at all. It's easy to lie about that sort of things because disproving it is difficult. Futhermore i can't imagine Russia settling with anything less than a regime change in Georgia. - DutchGuilder, on 08/11/2008, -4/+6Georgia attacked first killing 2,000 civilians and 10 Russian peace keepers.
- ilgaz, on 08/11/2008, -0/+2AS9121 TTNet Autonomous System Turk Telekom (Tk) are well known to be under the control of RBN and influenced by the Russian Government.
Hell, the lamest lie ever. Turk Telecom is currently owned by a private company who has nothing to do with Russians and Turkish Govt. controls it via "golden share". It also has nothing to do with RBN either. The actual country backbone is TTNet and main connection is MEDTURK Fiber along with other 3rd party (backup, sat etc.) gigantic backbones.
Keep our network, name and the word "Turk" out of this *****, whatever you try to achieve.
Also 2 things for future:
1) Always keep a backup Satellite connection from an independent, neutral company who is AWAY from you.
2) Don't declare war to Russia when you have only 12 planes :) - inactive, on 08/11/2008, -3/+5So, Russia is willing to let the psychos in Iran do whatever the hell they want, but Georgia gets the insta attack?
- Gioware, on 08/11/2008, -1/+3So true, all true about Georgia conflict is buried most of comments include:
Georgia attacked first
killed thousands
Poor Russia was attacked by small Georgia
***** little Putins! - lxcid, on 08/11/2008, -6/+7Hmmp. After I learn how western media always write what they think is correct, and practice selective believing of facts, I stop listening to them. Like the Britney, Hilton and Obama ads? I laugh my ass off...
Well, many of you have forgotten Iraq, don't you? How the media distort fact.
Didn't digg always have post about the daily show bashing the media?
Didn't you forgot the history between US and Russia, the cold war, the number of disputes between them?
You telling me there's not anti-Russia going on here?
Oh I forgot, digg is from USA.
Hmmmp, why no one here is talking about the killing of 2k civilian in the begin of the war?
So its Georgia's land on the huge map hang in the U.N office.
Does that mean they can claim the life of their own civilians down there?
Bravo guys... I am surprise at who you are supporting. - inactive, on 08/11/2008, -1/+2Well in all fairness, don't you agree that war with RUSSIA + iraq +afhganistan would kinda leave the U.S. undermanned?

Go get a AK47 and join war instead of posting junk to digg.
- sildude, on 08/11/2008, -1/+2Nobody told me these numbers. But that seems to be the mentality of russia at this point. Now they are moving to the town of Gori. A town well inside Georgia. You are nolonger protecting ossetians, you are attacking georgians. Georgian civilians. This is hardly justified. Georgia wants to stop this war and is willing to accept defeat. Russia pushes on, ignoring any ceasefire offers.
I'm not saying what Georgia did was right, not by a long shot but don't you think there has been enough killing by now? - BabyWookie, on 08/12/2008, -0/+1Deal with it.
