- r00t3d0ut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't help it but to say that Microsoft is offering too little too late. All they [seem] to be doing is following the paths already made by both Firefox and Opera. The thing that really gets my goat is that no one ever mentions the extensions that can added to Firefox to make the browser more powerful/functional. Will IE7 offer extensions?
- RHamel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1With special holes built into it for gator.
- CoolSilver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sounds like another Anti-trust suit that symantec, mcafee, and others will love to file.
- stanleyfresh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol. my thoughts exactly, maniac. ie7 just reeks of bloatware with features like that being brought into the picture.
- IraqManiac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh boy this will make the browser load even faster!!!?!
- BangoSkank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is another reason FireFox will not be long for this world.
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0antiphishing is going to be in the browser not antivirus.....I use netscape 8.0 and the antiphishing works great....it uses a list from etrust and verisign that is updated often...all of you that are saying IE 7 is bloatware have not even tried it with it still in beta....so come on....wait til it comes out then you can say that kinda stuff....I happen to like microsoft now that there are those haters out there hahaha

- Ssullivan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"AV software built into IE means viruses will probably have a harder time spreading"
I wouldn't count on that. - Paiway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is good news, stop whining. AV software built into IE means viruses will probably have a harder time spreading, which means less tedious work for me(sysadmin).
- NyQuil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0antivirus in the browser is just plain stupid... why not just go kernal level with something microsoft... ::shakes head in disgust:: I can maybe see some usefulness in the anti-phishing as long as it worked... but AV in a BROWSER! HEE HEE!
- OakLawnTek1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1GREAT.....lets relay on MIcrosoft to protect us. Gonna be that same garbage that AOL has too, stripped down versions of no good software. Can't wait to pick the hole is the package........internet exploder 7 sucks..firefox w0ot!!!!
- mercury81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well unfortunately when you have a mainstream product that a lot of people use you are going to have a lot of idiots using it, not everyone is a power user. I'm curious how this anti-phishing thing is going to work, is it going to be like Netcraft's toolbar?
- NyQuil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dubya: What I am trying to say is, why not they just skip making IE potentially more bloated and move their new AV to cover the whole system... It just seems kind of stupid that all these programs are starting to have their own AV's.. Then you really gotta start thinking about the hassles you might have to go through updating everything in your computer... btw;; I wonder how this new AV in their browser will work... It would be a bad idea to use signatures... am i right?
- veritech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0three, two, one, .... hacked!

Remember, IE7 must work with windows XP too, so I think a kernel level AV is out this time around. But we'll have to see if that happens in longhorn.
And let's not forget, the only people that still use IE as their primary browser are the non-tech-geeks. And that is the majority of everyone, so the AV is for them. And believe me, they definitly need it. Their are a lot of naive and just plain stupid people out there. - Vash_aka_TK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just another reason to use Firefox.
- mu-sly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You've got to love Microsoft sometimes. They not only sell you a f#cked product in the first place, but then they sell you the fix for it too, in the form of an upgrade to the next version!
OK I know IE7 will be available for XP users, but to begin with Microsoft were really trying to push it as a reason to get people to upgrade to Longhorn, until they realised Longhorn wouldn't be coming out for a year or more, and that Firefox was totally pwning them in the browser market.
This has been happening all along with Windows - each version people buy, they just want it to work properly, and Microsoft promises this and that feature, "faster, better, more secure, blah blah blah", and each time people get screwed because it never EVER does what it's supposed to do. Yet people continue to line up and buy it... it's just beyond my comprehension!?
To make a slightly lame analogy: It's like having a ***** meal at a restaurant and going back again another time, only to recieve another ***** meal, and yet you still keep eating there in the hopes you'll just get a decent meal, even when you think the chef shouldn't have quit his former job as a janitor. (To bring Linux into the mix: Especially when the restaurant down the road will give you a mouth-watering 8-course gourmet meal, cooking lessons and a life-long supply of ingredients for free, as long as you don't mind having to decipher the menu a bit.)
I honestly believe that Microsoft have managed to pull the wool over the eyes of almost everybody who uses a computer - like it just seems an accepted fact that computers get viruses and spyware and crash on you at inopportune moments, and that's just totally normal expected behaviour or something?
Windows is the ultimate money making scam. - mbabajhwve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good, can't wait to upgrade IE7 and use it. After all, Firefox is just a hype :)
- CompIsMyRx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Giving IE7 an antivirus is like giving a lukemia patient a new liver. It's pointless as hell, because it's IE's fault for having such horrible, non-standardized rendering engines.
- mu-sly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@mbabajhwve: Whatever, IE (including version 7) will always be Firefox's bitch. Seriously, how anybody in their right mind can like that POS is beyond me. I mean, I'm really struggling to name a *single* good thing about IE.
- bunzai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Netscape, Opera, Firefox, IE, I use them all and don't have any issues with any of them. each have their own quirks..practice safe browsing by avoiding them warez site and astalavista searches and all will live in harmony...Firefox is far the better browser to date..let's see what IE7 has to offer.
- ajb2015, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't need AV in my browser because I'm not dumb enough to get viruses. Seriously, you have to be pretty retarded to get a virus.
