- neuroticus, on 10/12/2007, -11/+71I, for one, completely trust the NSA with my operating system. Please pass the kool-aid.
- Anrkist, on 10/12/2007, -5/+63The guide, at least for XP is in a zipped file/word format that comes with a handy little installer. I can't wait to install NSA happyware on every computer I own.

I hate it when people complain about very old dupes. do you know how many more new people have signed up to digg since that article was posted 1 year and 140 days ago? I was one of them.
Secondly, whats the point of digging up an article that has been lost with time? A lot of people also like to post comments on digg so that others can read it and digg them up/down. Whats the purpose commenting on an article that old?
I would understand if there were 2 dupes of this on the front page, but complaining about ancient dupes are rediculous. - kazimir34, on 10/12/2007, -25/+67Stop digging stories with a "_2" at the end and try this link instead: http://digg.com/security/How_the_NSA_Secures_Their_Computers_for_Each_OS
made popular 1 year 140 days 14 hours 45 minutes ago - OnAnyMouse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43that was their plan. Having participated in taking down the NSA site, you are now an unlawful enemy combatant. No rights for you!
- MadN, on 10/12/2007, -4/+44Secure computer = unplugged Ethernet.
- cankillar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42#21: Don't hook it up to the internet.
- algorythm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28did we take down the NSA site?
- cplusplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26I don't think this is what they do. I think this is what they recommend to the public. Big difference.
- Langford, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27It would seem that usability is inversely proportional to security.

Wow, never thought I would see that. - dkarlson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22...And powered down, encased in solid steel, buried in a sealed concrete bunker one mile under the sea.
- diggapleaze, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14i always knew they were hiding secret alternate-energy-source technologies. Bastids!
- runxctry, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Looks like the the NSA's computers can't handle DoS/digg effect. Very reassuring.
- drg73, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Please stay seated behind your desk. Some friendly men in trenchcoats will be there shortly to pick you up.
- lilxvietxboi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13you'd think the NSA servers would be able to handle the digg effect. guess not.
- DamonDog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11The NSA uses ColdFusion for their dynamic web applications, interesting.
- drm237, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9They promote it because they were one of the primary developers of it. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SELinux
- ahill7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10The NSA has been one of the larger promoters of SELinux (and similar OS initiatives), and I can only imagine that their recommnedations will continue to grow due to legislatiive measures (i.e. Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, PCI/CISP, etc.)
- dschep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Which I'm sure is why the NSA put most of th work into developing SELinux.
- consonance, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11We just took down the NSA!
- Fratz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@kazmir34
The best part about this is that there's a comment attached to the original digg story from over a year ago that says "This has been posted already." This is a dupe of a dupe, it seems. - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8yeah like duggmirror but one that actually works.
- OnAnyMouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6secure computing entails restricted physical access.
restricted physical access is not the only factor, but is one necessary condition. - TheG2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7You mean like http://www.duggmirror.com ?
- neodon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I don't care that you buried or why, you stupid *****.
- Pile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7That makes sense. Cold Fusion is slow, expensive, bloated and doesn't work the way it's supposed to under stress. Just like the government.
- cfsporn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Holy ***** we ***** killed the NSA servers.
- Xavier1012, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4pack your bags, we're going to Gitmo!
- litkaj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@Anrkist
Did you even download the Windows XP files? If so, you would have noticed that everything comes from Microsoft (and that the installer was signed by a MS certificate, not one from the NSA). Only the PDF addendum was created by the NSA. - fuzzmeister, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"Fool me once, shame on... shame on you... if you fool me we can't get fooled again"
Classic Bushism. - diggapleaze, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5last time I check the kernel mailing list Apache and PHP aren't part of Linux.
- NeilJ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow, I only have to read 200 pages to properly configure WIndows XP?
Thanks Microsoft! - fudgebrown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think they're hosting these PDFs on an Apple IIe for security purposes.
- InsaneMachine, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9@kazimir
I really thought it was referring to OS/2. And since random punctuation doesn't do very well in making working URLs, i thought it replaced it with an underscore, as digg usually does. ;) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I pictured the NSA to have their own custom made OS.
- benitojuarez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Use uniextract to get files from an installer if youre concered about the nsa sneaking into your home and raping your mother.
http://www.legroom.net/software/uniextract
I also use uniextract to get get themes and jpegs from files from themexp.org without having to install all the ***** adware they install nowadays. - Figs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Coral Cache?
just add:
.nyud.net:8080 - SjRaptor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2remember C-I-A?

I beg to differ...
Have you ever tried to do anything on grandma's zombie box?
At least she makes you lunch, 'cause you're gonna be there a while. - kaervas59, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2At last, someone with common sense
- InsaneMachine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ok, maybe the pdf file is not 50KB, but that is all i get, sorry for my little outburst. Actual file size from the rapidshare link is 1003KB. No wonder i was only getting the first 3 pages :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Meanwhile.....the NSA being the NSA probably put a backdoor on that thing so they can happily browse your systems
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2it's very easy to keep windows secure. all you have to do is keep your software (including windows) updated, never run as admin, buy a router for inbound protection, install a good software firewall for good outbound protection, and don't use ie (internet explorer) because of activex--use ff (firefox) with noscript to preemptively block scripts that could harm your system.
of course, if you're an idiot, and you install a bunch of crappy malware-ridden software, then your computer's "fsck'd" six ways from sunday, anyway. ;) - DSM72M, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not bad, read this back a few months ago.
This link is for a pretty decent reference list- http://www.theiia.org/download.cfm?file=1319 - benlindelof, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2lol... PDF
- HalFTW, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Anyone got a mirror? I am getting 2.8kB/s :/
