- StevenMcD, on 11/03/2007, -1/+239I must say that gmail's spam filter really is awesome. I get little to no spam in my inbox
- spritom, on 11/01/2007, -0/+102I know of people and even small businesses that auto-forward all their POP3 emails to their Gmail, then autoforward it all back to another POP3 account...all filtered out nicely without a cash outlay.
Probably not advisable for companies like Media Defender though. - Dokument, on 11/02/2007, -2/+46u know that those people from other countries that ask for your money arent real dont you?
- capiCrimm, on 11/02/2007, -5/+39you think it has anything to do with your name?
- floodyberry, on 11/02/2007, -0/+32"Maybe Google should make greater efforts to filter spam in other services, like Google Groups, Blogger or YouTube. The experience from Gmail could be useful."
Says the blogspam which merely copy/pasted content from Google and explained nothing of how Gmail actually blocks spam. Why do people think this garbage is worth submitting? - DeanT, on 11/01/2007, -1/+32I can't remember the last time a spam message reached my inbox. It does a great job. I also like how it applies the spam filtering on every message, regardless of where the email comes from.
- ChuckIT, on 11/02/2007, -0/+30you are a liar.
- Audacitor, on 11/02/2007, -1/+27You know, one really must wonder just how much faster the Internet would be if suddenly, there were no spam. Think of all the bandwidth getting wasted on this crap.
- aqzman, on 11/02/2007, -1/+25I love my Gmail account! I don't delete the spam in my spam folder, just to see what the 30 day build it up like, on average I'd say there are about 1,300 emails in my spam folder!
- sockpuppets, on 11/02/2007, -6/+27For some reason it hasn't worked very well for me lately, I've been getting a lot of viagra type ads.
- mlostracco, on 10/30/2007, -0/+21By capitalizing "spam," I assume he's talking about how he never gets any potted processed meat product in his inbox.
- elnerdo, on 11/02/2007, -2/+21I've never had this problem.
- b04155, on 11/02/2007, -2/+21I define spam as anything I don't want in my inbox. So, after marking friends' emails as spam because it was fwd, fwd, fwd, fwd, fwd, fwd: of some stupid joke, chain letter, etc. gmail does a great job of still getting me their legit emails while putting the rest into the spam box.
- mlostracco, on 11/02/2007, -1/+18We don't need to know the details, as we won't be impressed.
- HUKI365, on 11/02/2007, -3/+19Yeah, but most real people DON'T buy Viagra online or open "accounts.doc" from some random chick you've never heard of or received an email before.
- ivanvanderbyl, on 11/02/2007, -0/+14You probably don't get any emails either.
- ElliottMarlow, on 10/30/2007, -0/+12Receiving spam indicates stupidity, yet poorly written English doesn't?
- StarManta, on 11/02/2007, -1/+13Did it involve a Nigerian prince?
- osbjmg, on 10/31/2007, -0/+11haha exactly!
original: http://www.google.com/mail/help/fightspam/spamexpl ... - scarwars, on 11/02/2007, -0/+11the fact that you even use your isp's email as your main email says more about you.
- dxgg, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1112+ years online and you still haven't learned to play nice?
- Audacitor, on 11/02/2007, -2/+12Pics or it didn't happen.
- justinjohnson, on 11/02/2007, -1/+10I think it was probably a joke, saying that he is doing a deal with Nigerian Royalty
- n00b3, on 11/02/2007, -1/+10That video was so awesomely done. With humor, information and nerds. Not with sexy models who wouldn't know ***** about technology.
Love You Goog! - sublime, on 10/31/2007, -0/+9What a disappointing article. I was hoping for some actual real information about Gmail's spam fighting technologies. This article probably covered 5% of the techniques employed by them. SPF, Domain Keys, and a "Mark as Spam" button? Call captain obvious.
- ttamshadbolt, on 10/31/2007, -0/+8Should just use Google apps...
- burke, on 10/30/2007, -0/+8Yep. 3000 spam per month, 2-5 of them in my inbox. Can't complain with that.
- tdous, on 11/02/2007, -1/+8You are lying. Or you stupidly flagged a bunch of stuff as not spam. But I have never, nor have ever known anyone have this problem with Gmail.
- kalleanka, on 11/02/2007, -0/+7Wait, did he contact you too?
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -0/+7Neat idea . . . thanks for sharing the information!
- Comatose51, on 10/31/2007, -1/+8You know the other day I was thinking that spam was a thing of the past until I actually looked at my Gmail spam folder and realized how many were filtered out. The only time spam gets through is when the spammers try a new trick but the clever folks at Google will have it figured out within a day or so.
- Zippo, on 11/02/2007, -1/+7I GET NO SPAM
- sirbeta, on 10/30/2007, -1/+7I love the Gmail spam filter. I've had Gmail since they first started taking in outsiders, and I've gotten a grand total of 2 spam messages, which I promptly reported and went about my day. I actually had two email addresses from gmail for a while, one for registering at websites, and one for my personal use. But even after using my registration email for years, it was still never flooded with spam. I don't know exactly what they do, but I love how effective it is.
- tdous, on 10/30/2007, -0/+6Actually it does. He is stupid. Lying and stupid. Lying and stupid and blocked.
- WiskyDrinker, on 10/30/2007, -0/+6tard
- simd, on 11/02/2007, -1/+6Dvorak would be proud.
- MCDupree, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5True, but you'll still get tons of spam...in your spam folder. Like I do! Thanks to Google Groups!
- andshewas, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5Good point. What a waste of money, time and bandwidth. I'm so tired of getting the spam that says "my wife always complains about my small *****." That isn't my problem. Why send me an email about it? I'm a girl. haha...
- whatsforlunch, on 10/30/2007, -1/+6as John C. Dvorak would say "I Get No Spam"
- tdous, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5Perhaps that means he's been online since not long after he was born, hence his childish attitude.
- LewisBreaker, on 11/02/2007, -0/+4What were you selling Penis enlargements?
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4Can't remember the last time I got spam with Gmail
- gmiley, on 11/02/2007, -0/+4It's pretty easy to start racking up that many spam emails per month. I easily have that much spam in my gmail account. It just happens after having an email address for a long time.
- Louisd11, on 10/30/2007, -1/+5http://www.google.com/mail/help/fightspam/getstart ...
- stopTheNonsense, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Opt outs do in fact get you more spam.
- tomato3017, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3I want to do that but everytime I setup thunderbird with a filter to autoforward to gmail(because my non-gmail is imap) it always has my email address as the sender so i can't get the filters to see it.
- andshewas, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3Spam does not just come from putting your email address in forms. I've gotten spam where it is sent to about a hundred email addresses that are very similar to mine. I find it incredibly hard to believe that you have never had a single spam email. i smell *****.
- LaPingvino, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3some opt out options in fact get you more spam... only opt out for companies you trust!
- Wartz, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3could be them using common names + @gmail.com to see if they get hits.
- spritom, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3I've helped some people do it...depends on their email host, works great if there's web-based email options with the email host. Usually it's like this:
regular@email.com - don't have TBird download that...just go to the web-based email provider tool, if provided, and autoforward everything to gmailfwd@email.com
TBird downloads gmailfwd@email.com on POP3
Tbird sends emails on regular@email.com on SMTP -
