- adholes, on 12/27/2008, -2/+244The RIAA seriously needs to get a life and is probably one of the most evil organizations in America.
- sockpuppets, on 12/27/2008, -0/+184I impress the ladies with my trillion dollar MP3 collection.
- thetrza, on 12/27/2008, -0/+157The RIAA should eat all the dicks.
- Sifor22, on 12/27/2008, -2/+151The RIAA is basically the mafia, at least in the way it operates.
- Sparrow06, on 12/27/2008, -2/+149***** The RIAA!
- liamvickery, on 12/27/2008, -5/+123How do they come up with the figures? That is around $142,847.15 Per song...
Which songs were they anyway, and where's the best place to torrent them from nowadays??
RIAA, MPAA, and the likes are a joke, and just succeeding in accruing more and more bad publicity and hate from the general public.
Instead of suing people for millions, (or trying to...) why not get with the times and work on new ways of distributing media and promotion and marketing etc. They can kick and scream all they want, but if I can't buy a CD now, without the risk that it won't play in my car's CD player, then I won't bother. A friend had just bought a new Ben Harper album a little while back, when I first discovered that the 'COPY PROTECTION' They designed the CD with caused the ORIGINAL PURCHASED CD to NOT PLAY in my car stereo!!!
I since don't buy CDs anymore, at least not new artist's ones as I know that they all have ***** 'copy protection' on them which makes it basically a CD with a disability. If I buy something, I want it to play in ALL of my What a load of rubbish!!!
It is ridiculously easy to just boot into my Linux box, rip the audio and convert to mp3 or burn new CD without protection... It is a total waste of time and just pissed me off, and now I will NEVER buy a CD off those creeps that call themselves major labels.
The same thing happens with software. One of my friends is playing some new game (dunno which one) that requires online activation, and the DVD to be in the drive whilst playing. (Which is very standard for PC games these days.) If you are not connected whilst starting game it won't load...
My friend emailed the company about what a hassle it was/is and that he will NOT be buying any more games from them, rather he will download pirated versions of them, which don't need any of above.
He has original copies of hundreds (literally) of games, but downloads 'NO-CD' cracks from the internet and uses those to save wear and tears (scratches and having to get it in and out of case and find it etc.
Hmmm... It seems you need to start listening to your (ex/)customers, and also lose the HYPOCRISY, Producers!!!
Check out the 'Extended_Copy_Protection' page at wikipedia for an example of SONY installing an illegal 'rootkit' on your computer without your permission, opening up security holes to other malware... And included in the software they developed is open source code used without credit ie. AGAINST the licensing rules of the GPL etc. So they ILLEGALLY installed, ILLEGALLY created software on your computer!!!
WOW! - MidnightFox, on 12/27/2008, -7/+103what no typical "***** THE RIAA!!" comment?
- Pr0phecy88, on 12/27/2008, -0/+89RIAA can eat acres of dicks.
- doublefelix, on 12/27/2008, -0/+74If he wins his motion this will be the most popular stream since the Shiba Inu Puppy Cam.
- inactive, on 12/27/2008, -0/+70FTA: "With the market value of 7 songs from iTunes being $6.93, Nesson has said the RIAA tactics are "a shake-down, it’s an extortion, it’s a blight and its an insult to the Federal Courts and the idea of law and to the poor people who have to work as the cogs of this administration making this machinery work.” That's the best description of the RIAA ever.
- bhavinp, on 12/27/2008, -0/+55How do there people sleep at night knowing they've just ruined someones life. How is a kid supposed to come up with a million dollars. The only way to bring this corporation down is for artists to go independent, if the artists don't want to sign with labels, they're basically *****.
- harrythe3rd, on 12/27/2008, -0/+52***** the RIAA.
- Balath, on 12/27/2008, -1/+46I just finished reading "Free Culture" by Lawrence Lessig. To understand what this war is really about, I recommend that book to everyone. We, as a nation, have more to worry about than a bunch of kids downloading music for free. This is about reclaiming the freedom to create new content out of the old, ensuring the continued existence of the public domain, and restoring the respect of the constitution to our courts. Aready we are on this road, and the legal protections granted to the corporations must be reversed.
Nesson is a paladin on our side, support him and his students in any way that you can. This is not a bleeding-heart liberal or staunch conservative cause. It should be a major issue with everyone who has ever created anything. - inactive, on 12/27/2008, -2/+45This is such *****. Pirates should just have to pay for the value of the music they pirated, which in this case is around $10.
- inactive, on 12/27/2008, -0/+37The RIAA has to recollect its money some way or another after revealing its bank account number to a rich Nigerian prince.
- Asdfglpwglion, on 12/27/2008, -2/+38Typical!

All on the Digg ***** list. - SecrtAgntMan, on 12/28/2008, -1/+29$150,000 per song, those better be some damn good songs.
- Ramble, on 12/28/2008, -0/+26Mine is.

- ardembiniwoot, on 12/27/2008, -0/+22WHAT THE *****?! $1,050,000?!?! WTF?!
sorry... it's just so stupid... - thetedster180, on 12/28/2008, -3/+25"bought a new Ben Harper album a little while back"
well theres your problem - Roscoe, on 12/28/2008, -1/+19Easy solutions:
1. Torrents
2. Torrents
3. Torrents
4. Don't put any music in any shared folders - tjrecord, on 12/28/2008, -0/+15The RIAA spreads AIDS.
- Kaijudoking, on 12/28/2008, -3/+18I don't know why that made me laugh.
- darlingt, on 12/28/2008, -0/+15I'll take F, C, and K for $1,050,000, Pat.
- MetalHead73, on 12/27/2008, -1/+15Well, when bands start giving away there music for free more and more often, it makes me really see how much I really don't want to spend money on music. If I want to support a band, I buy merchandise at concerts.
- TheIndigoSky, on 12/28/2008, -0/+14Bah, I'm just gonna get the torrent of it.

Semi-random image: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2109/2072016928_16a ... - needmorechange, on 12/28/2008, -0/+13Agreed. RIAA has ruined a lot of innocent lives. They are anti-innovation thugs.
- PaperKutter, on 12/28/2008, -4/+17Hey at least the RIAA sued your friends in a respectable way
- dasunst3r, on 12/28/2008, -1/+14I find it unreasonable to provide sexual pleasure to an entity that has done so much wrong. A more proper line would've been "DOWN WITH THE RIAA!"
- ardembiniwoot, on 12/27/2008, -1/+13BUY music?!... hahaha....
- inactive, on 12/28/2008, -0/+11That's been used in other cases, where the RIAA basically said "we don't have to prove that anyone actually copied songs from person X, just that they "made available" and that's all they claimed they needed. That akin to saying well he wanted to kill 100 people, so that's proof enough that he *did* kiill 100 people. If you have any faith in causality you'll find this argument thorough *****.
- PopcornDave, on 12/27/2008, -1/+12But if it's broadcast will it be available for download?
- inactive, on 12/28/2008, -1/+12I'd like to buy a vowel. Can I have a "u" please?
- thetedster180, on 12/28/2008, -1/+12what realm is he in?
- error792, on 12/27/2008, -3/+13What about Congress?
- KimNovak, on 12/27/2008, -0/+10And you know what sucks? It sucks that RIAA (Recording Industry Association of AMERICA) are trying to spread their retardedness all around the world making ISPs filter traffic and invade our privacy.
- Nerys, on 12/28/2008, -0/+10because we are trained to be lazy and apathetic.
and if that fails our congressman are trained and bought to ignore us if we do speak up. - w3ber, on 12/28/2008, -1/+11step 1: produce a song
stept 2: put *whatever you feel* price tag on it
stept 3: upload your song on *random trackers*
step 4: hire some *morons* to track your song
step 5: sue sue sue
step 6: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
nothing has positive value 'till bought. - TheVirus, on 12/28/2008, -1/+10RIAA MPAA COPY PROTECTION ORIGINAL PURCHASED CD NOT PLAY ALL NEVER NOT NO-CD HYPOCRISY SONY AGAINST GPL ILLEGALLY ILLEGALLY WOW
- avrygoodfrnd, on 12/28/2008, -0/+9It addresses that in the article, and I'm sure 100,000 people didn't download from him.
- Nerys, on 12/28/2008, -0/+9SO when I leave a non copy protected CD in the open on my living room table and invite 6 people over to my house I am guilty of 6 counts of "potential" copyright infringement?
Your kidding right?
holee.. Exactly. but not precisely since they DO have conspiracy to commit murder laws. So it gets a little gray that way
but copyright law is clear. You have to show actual damages. unless you can prove how many people downloaded it you can not prove ANY damages. - AresDiggs, on 12/27/2008, -1/+10I sure as hell do not agree with the amount they are asking or anything close to it - but the point of asking for more than the music is worth is as a deterrent, if they just ask for the value of the music everyone would pirate (not that lot of people don't already) becasue they would think hey wth even if i get caught all i have to do is pay what i would have originally but if i don't get caught its free - so yea not a detterrent...
BTW ***** the RIAA - inactive, on 12/28/2008, -0/+97 * 150,000 = 1,050,000
