- Vary, on 10/12/2007, -46/+197There's no 'should' about it. This guy is going to be sued. What he did was against the law. Period. Saying the men got what they deserved is like saying Phishing should be legal.
Really, I thought the net was much more liberal than this. I'm amazed at the number of people who are calling these guys 'perverts' and 'sickos' for wanting to have a little rough sex with a willing partner who's a legal adult. Bill O'Reilly would be proud of you all. - DaveMode, on 10/12/2007, -22/+116I can understand if he posted that he was a 14 year old girl and got those kind of responses, then post away. But if he advertised himself as an adult, then that's kind of weak.
- plnegative1, on 10/12/2007, -30/+115Wow. That guy who did this is a DICK
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+51dubloe7:
Not everyone on that list was cheating on their wife. Many of them are single men, and who the ***** are you to tell them that it is immoral to try to look for relationships (even one night stands) on the internet, when no one is hurt from it?
Likewise, not everyone sent pornographic images or images of any kind, and yet all their personal information is still listed among the others
This tiny little fact, which you're ignoring, destroys your whole argument. Thanks for playing. These people's lives are still ruined, and many of them did nothing more than get scammed. Now, anytime their name is entered into a search engine, THIS will be the top result. Yes, their lives are ruined. No, it is not their fault. And yes, you're a *****. - kosmoe, on 10/12/2007, -6/+45I think Jason Fortuny will regret his actions. I'd be surprised if there's not criminal or civil charges filed against him. At the very least he's bound to get the ***** beat out of him at some bar one night.
- BeachSide, on 10/12/2007, -13/+52"If these people are retarded, that's their own fault.
"he's ruining marriages"
No, people who conspire to cheat on their spouses ruin marriages."
I agree it's their fault if their marriage is ruined...
But not like this!!! This is completely illegal, no two ways about it. While I sometimes wish it was illegal to be stupid, the fact remains being stupid while not breaking the law is not. In the case of this Jason F guy his stupid actions will cost him big $$$ and possibly even land him in jail!
They (the submitters) have a right to privacy no matter how stupid their actions. - pseudojd, on 10/12/2007, -13/+52Sounds funny to me. My momma taught me to not send evidence of my freakness to anonymous people.
- frem001, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37holy ***** there is a guy in there with a @microsoft email... with his ***** out! his ass is toast.
- enki25, on 10/12/2007, -7/+39I agree with the article's author, this guy's a sociopath.
- Manc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32Whats the point of this, to prove that men will respond to adverts from women offering sex ? This happens thousands of times a day, and wouldnt really raise the eyebrows of even the most puritanical of web users. This is as news worthy as "dog licks its own balls"
Before anybody condems any other adult as a pervert or sicko, lay their own preferences on the table, BDSM...jeez, compared with most fetishes on the net, its almost mainstream.
What if its a female that likes a little bondage, is she a sicko or a "hot chick wanting to experiment a bit" ? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+32Wouldn't it be ironic that this guy gets f'd in the a-hole by one of his victims?
- daenyth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Welcome to the Internet, where the men are men, the women are men, and the children are FBI agents.
- johndi, on 10/12/2007, -10/+33I like the authors' rebuttal to the e-mails he got from people supporting Fortuny. The is the end of it.
"The point of the whole 'prank' was to shame and humiliate other people and to let Fortuny and his LiveJournal hangers-on feel intellectually and morally superior -- e.g. the victims are 'perverts' who aren't smart enough to know how use the internet anonymously.
Those of you who think the guys deserved it think so because you like feeling superior to them.
That makes you, not them, pathetic.
And no, Fortuny, you ain't no Andy Kaufman." - strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -8/+28You mean people with .mil email addresses also like girls? NO WAY!
- DarthPoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22He poses as a sexually-deviant woman accepting anonymous offers for sex on the internet and THEY are the perverts?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21that is quite different as it is dealing with an under aged person. this is completely legal, and the guy is just on an ego trip. he ought to be castrated.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+30Based on what he did and the hundreds of lives he ruined (which he is proud of), I wouldn't be surprised if he was murdered. Unfortunately for the murderer, there is a limited pool of suspects the police would have to go through until they find their man...
Being a sociopath and engaging in such behavior is not "cool" nor is it "funny". What it does do is demonstrate a well-documented mental disorder. - dougmc, on 10/12/2007, -7/+25Illegal or not, the guy IS going to be sued. He's hit people where they live, and while they may deserve what they got, they're also going to be so mad that they'll do whatever they can to get at him.
(And while I'm not a lawyer, I'd say what he's done IS illegal on several grounds. Hell, they could even get him on copyright grounds, for publishing their wang pictures.)
And getting sued may not be the worst of his problems. If you get people mad enough, they may track you down and come inflict physical harm upon you, your family or your property -- and I'd say he may have made people mad enough.
I've been reading aboug this for a few days now, watching the updates and such -- I first found it on MSNBC (!) and so a lot of people have seen it. Personally, I'm amazed that he hasn't been physically assaulted yet ... - SuicideInvoice, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22Then i'm going to freely go though your trash, get all your 'info' and then do what I want with it. I'll post all your prescriptions on a blog and poke fun at your STDs. Then i'll con your mother out of thousands of dollars becuase she's likely old and stupid.
Guess all that would be okay by you. - ionix18, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21The actual webpage of the project: http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/index.php/RFJason_CL_Experiment
- Sukino, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21yes
- klang, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21A guy posing as a girl on the internet?!? I have never heard of such a thing before! Is that really possible?
Jesus Harold Christ! It's legal to use your common sense in this decade! - hwh43, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14from the comments on the article:
"You don't get laid on Craiglist but you may get screwed!" - afpunk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Umm, before you call people idiots, examine the situation.
The man created a false profile with the sole intention of exposing grown men who were doing nothing illegal. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I think that's a pretty basic definition of antisocial behavior. Idiot. - SigmaDraconis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16The Internet proves that common sense doesn't exist in this universe.
- seattle98104, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20not funny, not amusing.
if anything this guy is alonely curmudgeon who's never ***** proper in his life.
what a douche. - augmentation, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15The irony here is that this guy who started this whole thing, Jason Fortuny, as they all say..himself has revealed his true identity, whiel making fun of people who reveeal true identity in response to that ad he put....isn't that funny? This might certainly lead to something very baaad.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16honestly i hope this causes HIM to lose his job and humiliate him. The whole point of the section this jackass posted in is fro one night stands, casual sex, and ***** with no strings attached. so he goes and posts everyones personal info because they responded to an ad in a section of a message board that they thought was real? This is like posting in the free section and saying you have a free shirt to give away and then making fun of everyone who "cant afford" a shirt.
I can't wait til this guy gets whats coming to him. - afpunk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Wow, this guy might be one of the biggest idiots on the planet. Ruining the lives of a hundred or so people who were doing nothing illegal and only immoral based on personal definitions of the word is a pretty good way to put a target on your back.
Getting sued should be the least of his worries right now. I find it highly probable that one of the men he ruined is seeking to 'ruin' his life in return. While I hope nothing extreme happens, I won't be surprised if it does, nor will I shed any tears over a sociopath's death. - dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14@ hagnar Do you really want morality police? It didn't work for the Taliban.
- klawz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Read the whole write-up next time before opening your pie-hole.
A few examples that match...
"This can explain the lack of empathy for the suffering of others, since they cannot experience emotion associated with either empathy or suffering."
"According to the older theory of Freudian psychoanalysis, a sociopath has a strong id and ego that overpowers the superego."
And the BIG list you obviously didn't ***** read or understand before opening your pie-hole:
"Diagnostic criteria (DSM-IV-TR)
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, a widely used manual for diagnosing mental and behavioral disorders, defines antisocial personality disorder as a pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others occurring since age 15, as indicated by three (or more) of the following:
1. failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest
2. deceitfulness, as indicated by repeated lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure
3. impulsivity or failure to plan ahead
4. irritability and aggressiveness, as indicated by repeated physical fights or assaults
5. reckless disregard for safety of self or others
6. consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain steady work or honor financial obligations
7. lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another"
Have a nice day. - mc4_a, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18What a creep.
- Cyberdactyl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12An analogous perspective is someone on any net relationship site, such as Match.com
You lie about your information in a severe way, YOU'RE the *****, NOT the person responding with intentions of having a relationship with the person per the information provided PERIOD. - esac, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Oh my god! I work at Microsoft and this guy is taking a picture of his ***** in his office at work!
Also if the site is down still, here is a google cache:

He has violated rights that all of these followers of his would be outraged to have removed from themselves. Mr. Fortuny you deserve to spend your days in a correctional facility, and the rest of you, his supporters, you sicken me by being so self-righteous you actually believe you have the right to judge these people who have committed no crime by divulging PRIVATELY their desires to another person.
- seattle98104, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17That guy really is a sociopath and probably has never had sex in his life. What a douche.
I hope he gets sued. - Matadon, on 10/12/2007, -18/+27What this guy did may be illegal; I'm not a lawyer, so I'm not sure. His actions are most certainly immoral and despicable though.
The people who replied to his ad with phone numbers, real names, and work email addresses are idiots. If you're going to use *any* sort of personals service, be discreet!
There is nothing wrong with being a pervert, as long as what you do is with other consenting perverts of legal age. You have to be some kind of incredible imbecile to not understand how important sex is to, well, pretty much everything that reproduces sexually. Humans are no exception, and we will go to the ends of the earth to find sexual satisfaction -- literally.
As far as 'cheating spouses', it depends on the situation; sometimes, there's an agreement between the two about extramarital sex (this is more common than you would like to think). Sometimes one partner isn't fulfilling their sexual half-o-the-bargin, and yes, sometimes it's just scumbags who don't have the balls to tell their partner what they really want and/or get a divorce.
Personally, I think that 'the guy' should watch his back for awhile; being a consistent ***** to people tends to make them want to come and shoot you. - Matadon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I think that he considers the posting of private information, obtained through quasi-legal means, solely as a form of malicious entertainment...yeah, that makes him pretty antisocial. The fact that he shows no remorse...yep, I'd say he's a sociopath.
I do at least have some experience; I'm not a psychologist, but my oldest nephew, who is much like The Guy, is a sociopath. Behaves in much the same way. Currently in prison, where he belongs. - dustyshadow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10The guy obviously isn't very smart. EVERYONE knows that corporate email is monitored. Even if this didn't get out like this, someone at MS had a very good chance of seeing it. How can you be so dumb?
- madpie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Poser, people make errors of judgment. It happens all the time. The question is, why did this guy go out of his way to humiliate a bunch of people for making this type of humdrum mistake? You could repeat this same experiment a hundred times, and every single time you did it you would get new, clueless victims to expose and embarass. But what was the guy's point in doing it, other than to gratify himself and feel superior? Truly, it's quintessential sociopathic behavior, not all that different from putting a razor blade in an apple and then laughing as somebody chokes on it.
- nesquik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Do you think being an ass to over a 100 people by ruining some of their lives via the internet is pro-social behavior?
- drfranktm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Yeah, but not every single one of them sent pictures of their dick using their work email address. Anyways, the guy truly is a scumbag.
- celerate, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13It would have been enough to notify the employers privately and leaving the victims with *some* dignity, but posting the information he got on the internet was nothing less than malicious. He wanted to destroy the lives of his victims, I wonder how many of them will want to show their faces in the light of day again.
On the one hand my personal convictions leave me with the opinion that the victims were not all well, what some of them did was weird (ie: sending pics of genitals to strangers by e-mail). But what they needed was help (along the lines of a psychiatrist), not to have their lives destroyed. - shitthisfook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Yeah, at least use a service that's less conspicuous to get what you want. Go on some 'friends' site, and chat with a local until you get her/his phone number. That way, if you're ever exposed, you can lie about your motives.
I still think this guy is an absolutely evil son of a bitch, though. Only good thing this did was teach me a lesson about sending pics of my genitals (which I'll NEVER do). The internet is a dangerous place. =/ - Cyberdactyl, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Dude, get a clue. There are probably several single guys with nothing to loose but a little dignity, but could possibly sue this guy into the ground.
- cobweb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8This is not stupid stuff, this is peoples jobs marriages and lives that are being ruined by this assclowns 'prank.' This is most definitely not a frivolous lawsuit.

jason the ***** = PWNED!!! - succubuskiller, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Actually there may be a lawsuit. I contacted my lawyer and sent him the link. He said that there is the definite possibility for legal action both civil and criminal. But also that it could fall into federal crimes category.
Hopefully a law firm in Washington will open a class action against him, plus the DA opens a case. I hope he learns not to "push peoples buttons" then.
He also has no idea about being an admin, and can not call him self a network administrator because his contact mail script, is full of holes running off what seems to be his own box at his house. A+ for effort, you *****. - Lewie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"Right to privacy... right to privacy... hmm, I cant seem to find it in the constitution, the preamble or the bill of rights . . . if im blind, please let me know."
In case you've never taken a law class, the supreme court considers the Right to Privacy a "prenumbra right." That means it is required to protect other rights (like unlawful search and seizure). An example: The right to travel. It's not anywhere in the constitution, but you need that right for the Right to Assemble, as it would be pretty worthless to try to assemble if the national guard forces you to stay in your house. - randomgeek, on 10/12/2007, -21/+28"Those of you who think the guys deserved it think so because you like feeling superior to them."
You're goddamned right I am. It's not that hard to feel superior to someone who's sending out pics of their dick while at work. -
