- Idiggapony, on 07/05/2008, -5/+70Google? Privacy policy?
Gotta be a rick roll. - Red1Delta, on 07/05/2008, -7/+62The privacy policy reads something like this...
"All your base are belong to us" - Alex2, on 07/05/2008, -1/+46Privacy policy: "We control all that you see and hear.. we control the vertical, the horizontal...."
- tian2992, on 07/04/2008, -2/+33It would have been better if you made a good comment instead of complain about the lack of one.
- inactive, on 07/05/2008, -2/+27Does this privacy policy mention that its turning over all our YouTube searches to a judge, because it should
- Marumekomu, on 07/05/2008, -13/+34How is this newsworthy?
- neel360, on 07/05/2008, -4/+23Who cares? The blog's writer was going for a sort of intensity that makes this topic even more petty than it needs to be.
"Was Google breaking the law? Check back next time, on BITS!!" - jb0nd38372, on 07/05/2008, -1/+14Before I read the article I had always assumed that google privacy policy was listed on their main page, most websites are I thought. Course thats what I get for assuming.
- googooly, on 07/05/2008, -0/+12After what they did to Youtube it has to be Rick Roll
- benologist, on 07/05/2008, -2/+14What is there to say?
OMG I SEE IT!!!!!!! SOMEONE CLICK IT AND TELL US WHAT HAPPENS!!!!!! - Marumekomu, on 07/05/2008, -0/+9Their privacy policy has always been easily found at the bottom of virtually every other page on their web site- not "randomly hidden".
Its absence so far on the front page can be attributed to a design decision, not maliciously trying to hide their policies.
But thanks for insulting me and assuming I'm an idiot because I'm evidently not "in the [extremely narrow] field of privacy policy issues" like you. I'd have been totally happy to have a real answer and learn something if you had something to share, but whatever. - angrychimp, on 07/05/2008, -4/+12It's odd that such a small change to a website is analyzed so deeply. It reminds me of celebrity tabloids, where reporters dissect what Paris was wearing that day before showing off her private bits to photographers.
I guess when you're the focus of attention, regardless of the industry, people scrutinize even your tiniest move.
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-google9oct09 ... - truekid, on 07/05/2008, -0/+8it's newsworthy because it shows both how stupid laws manage to have supporters.
seriously, internet privacy laws are laughable. and what does having the link on the front page of any website do? you could have a normal looking privacy statement and shove "except in cases where people offer us money for your private info" somewhere in there, and it would not change your site usage by any measurable quantity. - Zhay, on 07/05/2008, -0/+7Because you use iGoogle.
- tattertech, on 07/05/2008, -8/+15it's newsworthy because it's a huge shift in Google policy. But it's great that you can act both like a dick and be unaware of things.
- Fightermelee, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6Direct link
http://www.google.com - Marumekomu, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6The privacy policy is completely unchanged, actually. The only "shift" is they put a link to it on the front page- as they're legally obligated to.
Dick. - Zhay, on 07/05/2008, -3/+8So how much will this cost Google per month as a result of more bandwidth being used? At least a couple thousand... lol
- tchynerd, on 07/05/2008, -0/+5couldn't I just google it?
- str1fe, on 07/05/2008, -0/+5http://www.d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y.com
- ktxxx, on 07/05/2008, -2/+7Who gives a *****?
- duke1981, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4damn you iGoogle
- jinkop38, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4It's a mistake. The webmaster wanted to update the Youtube homepage.
- MalDON, on 07/05/2008, -1/+5I think the point of this, as posted on reddit, was that google had to decide what word to remove in order to add the privacy link. They decided to remove "Google" since it is implied that Google is the copyright holder.
- aristideau, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3if you are worried about privacy just use scroogle
http://www.scroogle.org/scrapen8.html
I have it in my Opera search (search.ini)
http://www.scroogle.org/cgi-bin/nbbw.cgi?Gw=%s - CCUboogernjit, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3I just speak my mind is that really a terrible crime? I mean this is the "comments" section after all.
- twiztidsinz, on 07/05/2008, -1/+4quit trying to be 4 popped collars cool.
- inactive, on 07/05/2008, -3/+6Buried as inaccurate. Any illusions of "Google" and "Privacy" are just that: illusions.
- KableKiB, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Amen
- WallnutBoy, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Cheers man, was annoyed that the article didn't source it.
- Ausome1, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2The privacy link doesn't show on the iGoogle themes.
- MtheoryX, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2iGoogle is the stupidest name I've ever heard.
Just sayin'. - chadell, on 07/05/2008, -1/+3Read between the lines.....http://digg.com/design/Keeping_Google_trim_efficie ...
- MtheoryX, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Because the ***** title even says "Home Page." As in, Google's Home Page, not your damn iGoogle splash page.
- MaiSacNjoMouf, on 07/05/2008, -1/+3Google has a penis?
- iceman0113, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Wish I knew about it earlier. Thanks and here's a link for a firefox add-on http://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engines.html?name ... for those who use the search tab on the upper right hand side frequently.
- JARSInc, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Here Google talks about it themselves:
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/07/what-comes- ... - VicTheKnife, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Actually pretty helpful, nice little tid-bit about unlisting your phone number should you desire.
- Atomic1fire, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1they only find you if they want to find you
and chances are, If they want to find you and they have enough resources
they will.
I mean sure you get the stupid call (like some charity you have never heard of or somebody who pronounces your last name wrong) every once and a while but having a publicly listed number (under the do not call list) is not horrible. - BTallack, on 07/05/2008, -3/+4What I truly don't understand is how the State of California believes that they control the internet.
- inactive, on 07/05/2008, -2/+3Anyone with a massive index of important user information/searches is likely to be sharing it with more than just viacom....They're probably working hand in hand with the NSA like Microsoft is with windows....you just dont know about it.
- Atomic1fire, on 07/05/2008, -1/+2that's definitely being defiantly annoying
(this should really tick a few people off especially the ones who don't realize that I'm using the word defiant not definite) - miaow, on 08/01/2008, -0/+1i predict the 'im feeling lucky' button will go around 2040
- tattertech, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Really? You don't see the difference between keeping it clicks deep vs. keeping it on the front page? Having a very small link relating to privacy really ***** up design? Yeah. Okay.
- jepizacar, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1nice resource....
