- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Windows 2000 bootdisk can't get you back in your system if you don't have your Admin PW.. same for XP...
- jms1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2had to digg it, my own web site is linked from it (and he's right, i don't like IE.)
and to avoid the flood of questions from IE users who can't see the page and can't understand the concept of "use a different browser"... remember that google has a cache. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This things ALWAYS works, I used to 10's of times.. it never failed once, and never corrupted anything, even if it warns people that it may do it.
- firehydra2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Trinity Rescue Kit (TRK) ownz. Does the same thing nicely (on LiveCD)
- danhuard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is a perfect example of an 'everyday blog submission' with good content. I generally HATE blog submissions on digg because it's generally useless drivel, but this one is worthwhile. Hopefully the bloggers realize this!
- djhifisi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good post. +Digg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ERD, or many of the linux bootable disks.. Bard PE with ERD is a must have....
- BitBurner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just use Ophcrack that uses rainbow tables. They have a Live CD now lol...
http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/ - iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Windows 2000 bootdisk can't get you back in your system if you don't have your Admin PW.. same for XP..."==============Sorry, but it sure can, just delete the sam file while in recovery console, if you use W2000 CD to boot a XP system, it won't ask for a password, and will give you access to the OS, problem solved.
- shawgo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wish I found this last week
- 000jr000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree with Bitburner, Ophcrack with it's large DB downloaded has been able to "recover" most of the random passwords we've tested with in under 5 min. The live CD works wonders as well. When brute forcing the password only takes a few min, it's not worth risking the corruption of Windows system files by forcing a reset/change.
- superdig2008, on 01/15/2009, -0/+0This is the easiest solution I've found, just burn and boot
http://windowspasswordforgot.com - iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0windows 2000 boot disk will work wonders, and doesn't ask for a PW.
- geminus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I Like ERD Commander, but for the last couple of years I used 'Techie Toolkit' which has FAR MORE utilities on it than ERD. I also wouldn't throw away NT Offline Password Editor as it can run from a floppy, and I have had to reset the password on some old notebooks that didn't have a CD-ROM drive.

Hotmail service is currently unavailable. - jjamstrong, on 10/08/2008, -0/+0Yes.... I too recomend ERD Commander resets passwords from Windows Vista...
Here are the links to the version 2003.

- Malakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I also use Ophcrack. It took longer to boot off the CD then it did to crack all the passwords on my system.
- dizzyturkey, on 09/03/2009, -0/+0Reset /crack/hack/recovery windows password/admin password/ vista password with windows password unlocker
1. Log onto a computer that can link to the Internet. Download Windows Password Unlocker 4.0 from http://www.passwordunlocker.com/products/wpu.html and decompress it on that PC. Note that: there is a .ISO file. Burn the .ISO file to a CD.
2.Get out the newly created CD and insert it to the locked computer.
3.Re-boot the locked computer and then follow the process of instructions. Just after a few steps, the old password will be removed.
4.Set new password:
Step 1: Open the "Control Panel
Step 2: Click the "User Account
Step 3: Select the account you wanna set a new password.
Step 4: Click "Changing Account " and "Set Up Password", then fill out the form as listed. Click "Create Password".

NO SOUP er DIG FOR YOU!!! - funkytaco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I work in a datacenter. This thing seems to hack SAM, and rarely works. Seems to require a CHKDSK after trying this as well. 0% success on 9+ tries.

Hope it helps. - astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh yeah... BART-PE is another good one to have in your Utility Belt...Built on Windows XP you can do the very basics (file explorer, map network drives, etc).
"Do the BART-PE man!"
(yeah I just had to use that pun!) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, you can do it, OSX is an UNIX-like operating system.. go to: http://www.openwall.com/john/ and download john the ripper and compile it.

http://lognot.blogspot.com/2008/02/forgot-windows- ... - tannpopo, on 07/10/2009, -0/+0every one..try this http://www.resetwindowspassword.com/
I just succeed to log in using it.
I am so excited. - shaft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sam file + rcrack.exe + rainbow tables = goodness :)
- danielson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I've done all of those methods, but I didn't see them mention anything about using ERD Commander. I would personally consider using ERD commander the easiest of any of the options and it would be what I would try first.
- multifaceted, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Pen meet paper you don't have to write down the password just a hint.
- astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0
K-N-O-P-P-I-X.... Get the ISO for nothing and your files free!..
Works wonders when you don't have time for looking for passwords and you need to data ASAP! - mikeroySoft, on 10/19/2009, -1/+0my other PC is your windows adminstrator account.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yeah, Knoppix is also awesome!..
- chronicon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0One word... Knoppix
- mc1123, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0dude, I just saw this last week! Dupe.
- tangerine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I've reset older OS passwords by removing the system board battery for three minutes.
Is that too oldskool or does it still work? - trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Honestly not trying to start a flamewar but how long would it take to crack an os x password? is it feaseable? Are there utilities to do it? and the same questions about linux.
- insertnamehere, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0last time this happened to me i just booted into safe mode and used the default admin account to change my pass
- Zonkzor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Knowing how to do this can really come in handy. Someone brought me one of those Toughbook laptops they had just bought used. Problem was it was passworded. I go and use some proggy I found to delete the password and came back a half hour later. Fixed. They thought I was some uber haxor.

How To Be a http://CollegeCheapskate.com - linker3000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Old stuff cobbled together from other sites so 0/10 for originality and no Digg, but it is handy stuff - I've used some of the recovery tools mentioned.

- tldavis98012, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Or instead of wasting 3 hours you can just boot into safe mode, use the "default" admin account (with no password) remove yours then put a new one on. :D
