- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4~ sigh ~ nobody's dumb enough to copy from my site; my coding is terrible
- awfulshot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the website i stole my code from actualy stole their code from me! bastards!
- Murdock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2lol. I have a calendar on my site, and it found every site that has a calendar on it.

Apparently http://www.recipe4all.com/ingredient/lemon/ ripped off the article without credit. Is that legal? - clumsyninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1IT found a bunch of pages with a quote that I got off of someone else. LOL
- ArchAngel21x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here is the secret to keeping your stuff from being copied on the Internet.
DON'T POST IT ON THE INTERNET. - kungfustickman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was waiting for something like this... Now if they only had this for art thieves.
- matx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no one copied my website :D
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It should be called paranoidscape.com.
- rishimaharaj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The problem is that it can't tell who copied from who. It found duplicate content from my blog on /. Hint: it's called a 'quote'.
- MellerTime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's a neat idea, but too sensitive. The theme copyright in the footer of my blog set it off with tons of false positives. Fooey.
- link470, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice, I like it, awsome submission.
- xGrill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0slowwww must be the digg affect
- kevthecatslayer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+02 people copied copyscape.com
- danlin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0is digg all about copying content from other sites and linking to them? not to mention del.icio.us and other bookmarking sites....
- Dynamoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There's nothing really altruistic about the Copyscape.com service - it's basically a way of tempting you to subscribe to Copysentry which is a paid for service. Copysentry is quite neat - basically, it automatically checks for duplicates of your pages and emails you with the results. It's quite configurable too, so you can limit the number of false alarms. Not too expensive either, but this sort of service isn't for everyone. However, if you have pages that draw a lot of traffic, then it's worth considering the whole hog and going for Copysentry.
- kimastergeorge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh my god! I found 3 people who are plagiarising me! And they all have the nerve to host themselves on my domains! Damn them....
- johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've had this happen - a new "game magazine site" reporting on E3 stole my site content and made it look like I had written a whole article. I found out because of my web site statistics and referrels, and sent them a nasty gram. Their PR person couldn't figure out how I knew since it was a "test site" they set up to promote their "E3 Booth Babe DVD". Blech.
This was back before I set up my site as a gaming wiki, but still - it was just weird. - sidyadav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0About two years old, but still cool.
- beermad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What a pile of bollocks.
All the sites it claims have stolen content from my site quote a summary from it and link to it.
Lawyers trying to drum up business? - sagaciousblonde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh, not cool. I found someone who copied my geek dating guide as an article on her website.
- nars, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0is there an ebaum protect?
- orcimtfos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Copyscape definitely looks useful, although you are always going to get false positives as the technology develops. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Copyscape also looks like a potential tool for finding illicit websites duplicating legitimate websites or pages.
- StammesOpfer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree this would be much more useful if it had a way for checking art as well as text
- teh_toaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really have no idea why anyone would copy my site, I guess they have bad taste and design sense like me.
- bryan8m, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How is Copyscape "defending your rights" when its actual intentions are to fight plagiarism thus restricting what people are allowed to do with information (despite that being unethical/illegal)?
- LoPhatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You fools perplex me, thinking you could hang your stuff out on the web and then condemning someone when they take a snapshot of it. The idea that you own the airwaves is only in your head.
Reality proves otherwise. - jonese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0quoting is fair use but not everyone tells you when they've quoted you, and sometimes a quote can be taken out of context.
- welvis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Copyright is broken, this is laughable. I can't get to the site right now, but can someone explain to me what is wrong with quoting? Would that not be fair use?
- TylerC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google should make a version of this, it would be much more usefull in the hands of a good dev.
- rufous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Services like this are almost entirely redundant. You can get the same results -- much faster -- by simply doing a Google search for a random sentence in your own article. Any site that has copy 'n' pasted your text will show up in the results.
- djspade313, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...digg effect on search results???
- sriracha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Plagiarism is great!
I just just ran a statistically significant sampling of pages from one of my leading sites (we wrote the content ourselves), and found that every page had been copied by one site or another.
I'm demanding link backs on everyone's home pages in return for limited license with deleting or delisting as the other 2 options. Hello PR! - alexi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm not able to connect to the site. I can get to the front page but everything else is a 404. Think popularity has broken their server? Hmm?
- Berkana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't forget http://www.pirated-sites.com/ . Some of the most outrageious acts of ripping off other people's hard work in site design can be seen here.
- firehydra2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ahh man, nothing from my website. My site sucks to be plagirized...
- jacobmp92, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very nifty. Only got 2 errors, but they were all on my network.
- rc_collins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks like I gotta call my lawyer tomorrow.
--dan - ezkiel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Good site, but it's been around for a year or so now!"
"Old News"
And your point is?
Apparently Sciptalicious is biting my *****. But no one else is. No one names variables in JS like me. - linuxrebel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Friend of mine found out that about 15 myspace sites directly linking to an image on his site. So he "updated" the image to one of a really fat guy with an unbelievably hairy back. Stopped that real quick.
- codeman38, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0murdock: I ended up with the same result-- all but two of the false positives for my blog were completely unrelated sites that happened to have a calendar. (And the other two were an RSS aggregator and my own mirror of my blog on LiveJournal.)
- inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*****.com
- madeingermany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0every page of my German homepage about computer viruses has been copied numerous times... even from people who should really know better: If you call yourself an IT-Consultant, you shouldn't have to copy text like this and especially not without giving the source link!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Really old. Welcome to the Internet.
- mikegrossman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ive been getting hits referred from copyscape because I re-post digg news from time to time.
- whitefael, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a Shakespeare site and learned that there are several "essay" sites selling complete play summaries that I did on their sites! However, you can do a search for chunks of your text in google to good some of the results I found using Copyscape. However, they did pull up I few I couldn't find using Google. Regardless, it sucks that people are making money off of my work. And for the record, I don't trade or illegally download music, movies, etc.
- manvsmonster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I found this article by searching, haha.
http://www.wftv.com/news/6253589/detail.html - timewarrior, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0OLD NEWS.No Digg.
- netpioneer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Old news.
- darrenstraight, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Good site, but it's been around for a year or so now!
