- Sife, on 11/17/2008, -3/+74All this federal spying ***** rests on the premise that privacy isn't necessary if you aren't doing anything "wrong". In reality, privacy is a basic human right and need.

- Benjamin Franklin - theNazz, on 11/17/2008, -6/+40The only way to make a cellphone 'safe' is to remove the battery... I wonder if that's why Apple loves to design products that make it hard to remove the battery... especially since they are teamed up with anti-American companies such as AT&T who have already violated our privacy laws. (Until the retro-active immunity bill made it all legal)
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -0/+17When I started complaining about warrantless wiretapping, it was Clinton doing it, and Republicans supported me. Then Bush did it, and Democrats supported my complaints. Now, a Democrat will be doing it again, so I guess everyone else can change sides...Except me. Stupid principles!!
- greenvortex, on 11/17/2008, -3/+19They can supposedly (according to Fox News) listen in to your cell phone, too, even if it is turned off.
- MrRoboto, on 11/17/2008, -0/+13The right to bear arms....what was that for again?
- sliksta, on 11/17/2008, -6/+18Whoever dugg you down is ignorant.
- maximilen, on 11/17/2008, -1/+13Same thing as a lock on your bedroom door -- just because you aren't having sex doesn't mean you want someone waltzing in there like they own the place.
- sajorojas, on 11/17/2008, -3/+14no way man. the government loves me
- PennFarmer, on 11/17/2008, -0/+9And according to CNET

- acrodev, on 11/17/2008, -1/+9The ends do not justify the means.
- feelmypimphand, on 11/17/2008, -0/+7Another addition to the endlist list of freedoms pissed on by our government.
- mr0nine2five, on 11/17/2008, -1/+8and wheres the link to the proof that cell phones cause tumors?
- elwill, on 11/17/2008, -0/+7Actually you have to take your battery out to ensure they stop. That is why journalist in crazy places like Afghanistan are asked to take the batteries out before they can interview the 'bad guys'.
- cyrusuncc, on 11/17/2008, -1/+8"He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother."
- dOOBiEx213, on 11/17/2008, -1/+7and I love Big Brother.
- maragarine, on 11/17/2008, -0/+6I don't have a cellphone. Not getting one, either. What a horrible contraption. I have no use for it. I prefer to be left the hell alone when I'm not in a place where I want to be reached, like at home or in my office.
- blake_mooney, on 11/17/2008, -0/+6Yet another example of the government violating our rights...
- Skooma714, on 11/17/2008, -0/+5You guys are unpatriotic, "Country second", lunatics. They are just trying to protect us!
If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to worry about!

I didn't vote for Obama (nor did I vote for McCain), but I'd like for him to tear up these ridiculous powers. - TheJimid, on 11/17/2008, -1/+6You would think that someones location at anytime would be protected by the fourth amendment, it is technically an unreasonable search without a warrant.
- palehorse864, on 11/17/2008, -1/+6Quick someone find the tracking computer and type Lucius Fox!
- kspanks04, on 11/17/2008, -3/+8and its only going to get worse
- endtropy, on 11/17/2008, -3/+7Just a friendly reminder: Apple is a business. They are in the business of making money. They don't allow for an removable battery because it makes them money. You either buy a replacement ipod/iphone, or get it replaced by them for a hefty fee. They "teamed up" with AT&T after trying to get other cell carriers on board as the exclusive carrier so they could squeeze all they could out of whichever carrier cared to pony up.
- CSHYDRASHOK, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4Ya but the problem with that is the governments lack of oversight which means when people like you let them- they do whatever they want
- PennFarmer, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4Someone wise enough to have voted for a third party candidate (I assume) is wise enough to know that Obama is going to go along to get along and leave this one alone. It is too helpful for the government. Obama, for all his "change" rhetoric is still a part of the government and has been most of his adult life. Nothing to see here.
- maximilen, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4Parents can track their kids via cellphone by subscribing to a GPS feature and not tell their kids... Google it.
Damn, what a ***** time to be a kid... No more fun toys, parents track you via GPS and surprise you on lovers lane and you need to wear a helmet for pretty much everything except jerking off. Ick - PennFarmer, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4Sorry AWBoy, but I'm a hardcore conservative and I am here to tell you that the Patriot Act is absolutely terrible for America. I can't stand the thing. Look all the way through it and see what it actually does. It's not a good one. Libs and conservatives can both get behind this one. We don't *have* to disagree, you know.
- NinaOdell, on 11/17/2008, -2/+6Is this really happening, though? Or is it just a "suggestion" as per the article?
Don't make me give up my cell phone, man... - MacParrot, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4Yeah that's great until you actually try to use it as a cell phone and connect to a provider's network
- acrodev, on 11/17/2008, -1/+5Not true, get an insulated freezer/over bag with a foil lining. Your phone will be in what's considered a Faraday cage, unable to send or receive any signals outside the bag.
- MacParrot, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4There is no word that exists in any language to describe how much you suck
- madwaxer, on 11/17/2008, -1/+5 "Don't you dare complain! We the telecoms want to make as much money out of you as we can by selling you new locked phones that have a lot of features you can't use. made with terrible cheep quality materials so they can break or get filled with lint easy. This way you have to get new ones very often."
Isn't it crazy that most phones come with an external antenna jack but using it will void your warranty and finding an antenna jack is very difficult! so why bother put them in? I think we should be building better networked phones that can communicate ad-hoc without a base station.
The net should not be restricted to fiber backbones and greedy ISPs - timusca, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4*****.
- MacParrot, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4I think he means political parties that actually have a chance at being elected.
Not being sarcastic, I'm registered as an independant because I think both parties in the US suck - DivisibleByZero, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4You could feasibly build your own triggerfish if you wanted to, but it would probably cost a hell of a lot more than just buying a new phone...
And you'd probably draw some attention to the authorities, have to spend some time convincing them that it is in fact legal for you to have it. - MacParrot, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3maximilen? You've been in that shower long enough! Unlock this door RIGHT NOW!
- Spire3660, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3This is why, short of me removing the battery, my phone has no off button.
- shredswithpiks, on 11/17/2008, -1/+4Cell phone transmissions have to travel further than the 3 centimeters between your ear and brain. If this were true, we'd all have brain tumors regardless of cell phone use because we have all been bombarded by the signals. Don't be dumb.
- 11oops, on 11/17/2008, -2/+5No way man. Just put it in your pocket and wrap your hips and waist in tinfoil. You'll be on the leading edge of new fashion, plus it will match your hat perfectly.
- ASfinkterSezWut, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3Nice try, but no luck...
The way they triangulate location is through your connection to Cell-towers and the "hand-off" from tower to tower etc... NOT through your phone software.
Then there's the hardware with the GPS chips... ftl ... 8-( - venuspcs, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3I am pretty sure in Texas if you are under the age of 18 you have to wear a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and padded gloves to jack off....
- SSUK, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3Don't waste good foil on that. It can go to reinforcing your helmet!
