- Khast, on 10/09/2008, -2/+46I'm going to go out on a limb and say...after working on a lot of people's computers lately....yes, people can be that dumb. (Well, not necessarily dumb, but uneducated...and won't learn, because they want the internet for communicating with family, or e-mail....why should they learn?)
as much as I hate them....Web-TV is the perfect web browsing tool for these people. - apastafarian, on 10/09/2008, -2/+26"But even some sophisticated surfers could get taken in by a sneaky new attack"
No, sophisticated surfers know not to open unsolicited email attachments and they run anti virus/malware software for added protection. The same people that fall for Nigerians/ Viagra/ free nude pics etc. scams will fall for this one. They always fall for the next new scam, they don't know they need AV or that it needs to be updated or that their browser needs regular updates and they probably never will. - itsbob, on 10/09/2008, -2/+26Rick Roll virus?
- jgopp, on 10/09/2008, -4/+24FTA: A program circulating online helps hackers build those fake pages. Users who follow an e-mail pointing them to one of the pages would see an error message that claims the video they want won't play without installing new software first.
That should be the first clue something is off, savvy tech users getting duped isn't believable with that line. - inactive, on 10/09/2008, -2/+19A few weeks ago a friend dared me to try and get a virus on my macbook. I of course accepted, knowing that I was impervious to viruses. After visiting several malicious websites and trying to download their "freeantispywareyourpcisatrisk" crap, I finally succeeded. DNS hijacked! Adware! Crashing firefox all the time! And much more! Long story short I had to reinstall OS X. Don't be a smug Mac-Douche, it can happen to you too!
- cloudberries, on 10/09/2008, -0/+17Yep, very wrong. Unfortunately the majority of net users don't pay any attention to things like the address bar, or why they're getting random links sent to them in the first place.
To them, their computer is simply telling them they have to do stuff. They blindly agree. - digitalhippie, on 10/09/2008, -0/+16We have to keep in mind that most digg users are pretty tech savy (generalization). Most of us won't fall into this category. But for the vast majority of non-technical users they may think that is an update for flash player or something like that and they will ignorantly will download whatever file is "required". Just my two cents.
- lilhelper, on 10/09/2008, -2/+16Yea, I keep getting them when I am trying to find a good porn video.....
honestly, you dont infect a mans porn with viruses...
You just dont do it!
Have you tried fapping when your pirated version of kaspersky pops up with a virus message? It makes you want to put a condom on...
- Upon66, on 10/09/2008, -0/+11First comment on Physorg:
"Wow ppl fall for this type of thing??? I mean cmon can ppl get dumber?" - dha07030, on 10/09/2008, -2/+11Or just don't be stupid.
- DJBONEZ, on 10/09/2008, -3/+12Not only was that a stupid comment, but having a mac in the first place makes you unbelievably unintelligent. If you knew anything they you would realized that while you think you cannot get a virus because you are running a mac OS that is not the case. Hackers do not feel the need to set up viruses for mac OS's because it is not worth attacking a machine without any value. Mac's are such junk that they really are only bought by the "Starbuck's Fag," a unintelligent being that brings their mac to Starbucks to show off the sleek look and groovy little widgets. But in reality that is all that you can do with a Mac, as far as gaming goes no real game will be able to run at a reasonable level, and you cannot even take advantage of being able to customize you machine into making it your own. So really saying "i love my mac" is just a stupid synonym for saying, "I cannot use a computer, therefore, I am a computer illiterate person who cowers behind an overpriced paperweight/large shiny object."
- ElectroBot, on 10/09/2008, -1/+10- Replace all windows sounds with Rick Roll (inclunding the Internet explorer click sound).
- Have Windows start up with a looped rick roll video if user is using xp or vista (make the video be the background if they're using vista ultimate.
- Change their username to Rick Astley.
- Change the background to a clip from the video.
Yes I am EVIL. (Sometimes) - DJBONEZ, on 10/09/2008, -4/+12Not only was that a stupid comment, but having a mac in the first place makes you unbelievably unintelligent. - jer21, on 10/09/2008, -0/+7Referring to someone as a muppet always cracks me up for some reason.
- gkskillz, on 10/09/2008, -0/+7Yea, except my mom doesn't know what the address bar is. She's completely oblivious to the whole concept of typing address into the bar, and just uses Google for everything (even when she knows the URL). I've tried to explain it to her, but she doesn't want to learn.
Not everyone is tech savvy. - abajaj2280, on 10/09/2008, -1/+8anyone who watches porn knows this
- searcade, on 10/09/2008, -1/+7Iv been on some hacking forums today *just the usual stuff* and saw this http://i34.tinypic.com/30042ab.jpg before this article was even on the homepage, im sure thats how this thing works.

Quoted:
"Okay, this is not an offical exploit nor script, its just something I noticed from the new youtube features: YouTube Video Annotations, which a person could easily exploit for drive-by-downloads.
More info about this feature:
http://www.youtube.com/t/annotations_about
with this technique one firm created a simple youtube game:
http://www.youtube.com/user/Hexolabs
the game:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ahyHfNqquQ
Now this is still bit unusual so if you make a game for youtube it will probably gather easily tens of thousands of visitors and if one of the game's CLICK Links would have an url to site which either:
1) loads a message that the user will have to download a additional component ( = trojan ) to be able to play this game.. voila
2) hidden download and silent trojan installs ( a bit advanced, but plausible) and redirects to the next stage of this youtube game." - SteveEisner, on 10/09/2008, -0/+6Yeah, this YouTube viral totally busted my machine: http://www.youtube.com/experiencewii
- astrotrain, on 10/09/2008, -0/+6"Hello Comcrap tech support, I've been Rick Roll'ed! Help!"
- inactive, on 10/09/2008, -0/+5If you download anything without taking a glance at the URL beforehand, you're not a "tech savvy" user.
- lilhelper, on 10/09/2008, -2/+7yea, so all the hackers will start making Mac viruses..
ok!
*****.... - zombiecarlin, on 10/09/2008, -1/+6***** trolls.
- 1shawn, on 10/09/2008, -0/+5It's a trap!
- NCSD, on 10/09/2008, -0/+5It happened to me but I didn't download anything.
If I ever happen to meet someone who does this I'm going to ***** rip their balls off - inactive, on 10/09/2008, -0/+5I love the money I save from not buying a Mac.
- duckyinc, on 10/09/2008, -3/+8LOL you download from youtube? What's the point of streaming then.. LOL Noobs
- staystellar, on 10/09/2008, -0/+4you can't say that with out ackbar.
- quomen, on 10/09/2008, -0/+4I don't know who I dislike more, Phishers, or people that are stupid enough to fall for phishing scams.
- twh090, on 10/09/2008, -0/+4When you say "Do Not Click", it makes me/people want to click.
Luckily I have NOD32 anti-virus and it kept quarantining a bunch of stuff as I was trying to close the window haha.. had to log off for it to stop (could have done ctrl+alt+delete as well I guess)
But for anyone reading this comment, you DO NOT want to click that link, I'm serious It's like the Rick Roll browser window you can't close because it jumps around except this has naked people in it, and disgusting, unspeakable, naked 'acts'. haha
If you do click... make sure you have NOD32 active. (I will be scanning my computer in a second just in-case something slipped through..) - DaviDTC, on 10/09/2008, -0/+3Youtube asking you to install new software is sneaky? It is sad how dumb people can get to fall for stuff like that.
- lilhelper, on 10/09/2008, -0/+3Actually, I do now...haha
- Scira, on 10/09/2008, -0/+3facepalm
- Tarnum, on 10/09/2008, -3/+6Lamer's tip: get a macbook
- roboticbrian, on 10/09/2008, -0/+3How does she get to google?
- billbugger, on 10/09/2008, -0/+3Best virus ever!
- illDecree, on 10/09/2008, -0/+3i would gladly join you in the tearing off of a malicious code writers balls
:-D - astrotrain, on 10/09/2008, -0/+3A good sysadmin always makes sure the data and t he pornfolio are backed up.
- wukillabee, on 10/09/2008, -0/+3"I cannot use a computer, therefore, I am a computer illiterate person who cowers behind an overpriced paperweight/large shiny object."
ahaha so true.. PWNED! - DigitalPioneer, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2Well, you can say what you will about other OSes being safer because 'nobody uses them' but the reality is windows is crap for security, and when you throw IE into the mix, it's a joke. Other OSes are based on other security models that actually WORK. There's a reason Linux is the standard for webservers.
- voldron, on 10/09/2008, -1/+3Uh people, old news!
http://news.oreilly.com/2008/07/dan-kaminsky-upgra ...
I heart Dan Kaminsky - inactive, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2Your media codec is out of date
Please install the new flash codec 265.4
to take advantage of the new media capabilities.
Available as an .exe file
or something like that.
Youporn has been doing this apparently. - dondara, on 10/09/2008, -1/+3"but having a mac in the first place makes you unbelievably unintelligent"
I think making a sweeping generalization like makes you the moron.
"and you cannot even take advantage of being able to customize you machine into making it your own"
And that is just plain ignorant. You know nothing about Macs so you should just STFU before you embarrass yourself further. - passedoutghost, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2I can't believe people fall for it. It's running off flash, and doesn't use a codec as such.
- billbugger, on 10/09/2008, -1/+3This seems more like the newest way to rickroll someone.
- jamesmcm, on 10/09/2008, -0/+2Well I use Linux so the viruses aren't a problem (they're .exe's) - I'd never click it just cause of the images though.
- inactive, on 10/09/2008, -0/+2yur doin it rong
- ethana2, on 10/09/2008, -1/+3You don't use an Ubuntu LiveCD for your porn viewing?
- belebih, on 10/09/2008, -0/+2Yeah, it's like shooting a guy in the dick. It's not cool goddammit! You don't ***** do that! You don't shoot a guy in the dick! It is not okay!
- Jasuus, on 10/09/2008, -1/+3This article is stupid.
