http://ftpredators.com - Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I like the idea of this being posted to protect against such tools. I already use a complex WPA key and I do no broadcast my SSID either. Maybe I overlooked it, but I didn't see any mention of MAC address filtering, but I also do that. I'm hoping the way I'm set up, the odd's of anyone cracking my wireless network are pretty slim.

Then follow the instructions and realod a couple of time and it will work. - drewzhrodagu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You could also check out WiFiMaps.com to see other wireless networks in your area.
- rrobster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you're using WPA-PSK, make sure that you pick a string that's at least 24 charachters in length and don't use any common words. Use random numbers and symbols (%#*&) to prevent a brute force dictonary attack. A good rule of thumb is: if it's not in the dictionary, you will be much safer.
- KissTheRing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How about KisMac? I've made some nice WiFi maps using it. Check out one of them at http://static.flickr.com/34/73233941_b30a7e911a_o.jpg
- brownb2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anybody got a useful distro that will automatically recognise and configure your wireless card and have these utilities available? All wardriving distros I've seen don't recognise my DLINK GW122 USB wireless adapter.
- Fastermatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0digg effect
- brownb2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0by distro I meant live CD btw
- xerowhite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1isn't it easier to drive 10 feet more and use an unsecured network?
- Tonyisbad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thats funny my best friend is name Dan Hoffman, but he doesn't know jack about hacking

Check out Phlak.

www.phlak.org - sublime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought this was a good article until I saw airsnort. That was a red-flag that the author doesn't know anything about wireless security. Airsnort was the 1st generation WEP cracking software. Airsnort is so old and outdated, its useless. The current WEP software is aircrack.
- jump4jay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0... but I Dugg it anyway! ;-)
- jump4jay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I never realized that I HAD to have these... never knew that "hacking tools" of any kind were essential to have! :-/ I'll get right on that.. .I'm downloading them now!!
It really irks me how the term "hacking" is so overly used, and often misused.
I agree with xerowhite, just use what's unsecured. - orangetiki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ahh, how to rip off your nieghbor's ISP with router. OF course 99% of people dont lock their service. I know quite a few who leech. Didn't someone get sued over that?
- talishte, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hey brownb2
I am using Auditor with the precompiled Kernel for the iwp2200. but your card is very easy to automatically recognize for this distro, is a cd-live but you can install in your HD using this command:
knoppix-installer
or just
IGNORE_CHECK=1 sudo knoppix-installer
http://remote-exploit.org/index.php/Auditor_main - jdstorer2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yay digg effect!
- ripcrd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Airsnort could still be useful against unsecured or lightly secured home networks. But then if you were doing that, then you are probably not doing anything ethical. The idea is to not be vulnerable to that tool.
- hatem75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I will try software befor
- flowow, on 03/12/2008, -0/+0oh its great

WEP now not safe for your privacy.Use the WPA and put the crazy password. - thenargonne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I used those very same tools along with aircrack & aireplay to crack WEP encrypted APs near me. Super extra!
- diggidydawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1very informative, thanks!

KNOPPIX
SuSE 10 LiveDVD
Ubuntu 5.10 (Breezy) Live CD
I use all three, and each one is easy as hell to get wireless working, in fact, the latter two are probably easier than KNOPPIX. - kramit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0all very nice and interesting but i still cant get my damned wifi card to work with linux
- psytek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1no-go
