- Trizzle74, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't even get mine to finish downloading and installing. I'll just keep using avg and kerio =(
- dnthomps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bout time... now if only they can educate their users a bit on how to use this security software..."
No *****! I work for Tech support with these idiots 10hrs a day. My God! Biggest problem I have seen is the Outbound Virus Scan in Outlook Express causing timeouts. I'm sure we will find more and more issues. We always do.... - wastern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its good they are doing this, but i'm sure most people still won't know enough to install it or more importantly....update and use it right
i'm also not a big mcafee fan. i think the free stuff is better then most of the pay apps out there - ziffel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"The products are valued at $115"
heh, by me they're valued at $0.00. McAfee sucks. Like wastern said, plenty of excellent quality free alternatives that don't bog down your PC. - hungodonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ok so what I am curious about is exactly where did you find this? I have been scrounging there websites for quite some time and talking to them personally and nobody seems to know anything at all about this. A link would be very helpful.
- Raian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the privacy centre is useless...
They would be better off just giving their customers Anti-Spyware scanners. - Nocturnal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hate McAfee. How about giving them Avast, Zone Alarm and FireFox?
- pinc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1all they had to do was direct people to websites with free anti virus applications and free anti spyware applications...
would of saved tons of money that way... - JPamplin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, well, it's not exactly free. There's a catch - you have to pay for renewal of your subscription. If you'll read the EULA:
"10. Automatic Renewal. You agree to permit the Company to automatically renew your subscription to the Software by charging a valid credit card number which you have provided to the Company. Your subscription to the Software will be automatically renewed thirty (30) days prior to the expiration of your subscription at the then-current price, excluding promotional and discount pricing. You may elect not to have your subscription to the Software renewed automatically by contacting the Company's customer support department at 1-866-622-3911 at least thirty-one (31) days prior to the expiration of your subscription to the Software and informing them of your desire not to have such subscription automatically renewed."
So, don't bother.
JP - Nocturnal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Also, 9/10 customers will not do the updates and if they do it will some how break their machine.
- mr.hostility, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1McAffee is worthless. What were they thinking?
- whammypower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like McAfee. I've had compatiblity issues with AVG, and Norton is just too invasive.
- nerdbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"To use McAfee software products, Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher is required. Please switch to Internet Explorer and return to our site."
- superpixel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1McAffee is poop, I agree. Also, lest we forget that 1) users will not update (not even the OS!), and 2) yes, they need to educate their users.
And how, pray tell, would they DO that? "Hi, I'm Commie, your friendly Comcast Wormy Security Expert Blob. I'm here to teach you about protecting your computer. Let's try not to ruin the internet for everyone, m'kay?" - zerovertex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1McAffee is crap.
- binarypower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Where is the link to download this? I am on Comcast but I cannot find a link from www.comcast.net
- bloodrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0got every thing including the computer for free. even my dsl.. i know people and ways....
- havencircle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Comcast's tech support needs an overhaul and all calls involving this software should be directed to McCafee. What happens when the software expires in a year? Do they expect people to pay for it after they've had it so long for free? Geez... There are ways to secure a computer, legally and for free. McCafee's bloatware anyway.
- nrs1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've used McAfee for years and it was GREAT until ... the last month or so. I support over 4000 PC's in my own business and I have found that if you have a Celeron 1.7MHZ or an AMD Duron your performance will be so poor you'll want to throw away your computer. McAfee lost most of my business because not everyone has a Pentium 4 or higher to run the newer version or (sdat) and the only thing to do is buy antivirus software that does not decrease the performance so much you can't even use it. Comcast also made a MAJOR mistake allowing it to happen because everyone is going to blame them as well. If you have a P4 your going to be ok. If you have a Celeron, Duron or PII or low speed PIII you better download AVG free because Mcafee and Comcast will KILL YOUR OLD Computer. NO FAIR >>>>
- kblowers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I could be wrong (though I'm not), but I'm pretty sure this news is like a year old...
- riot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i guess its good I still have that test account I created two years
ago when I worked for comcast
HAHA - dBLiSS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I work for comcast tech support and this is going to cause nothing but headaches for us. you would be amazed how many people call in to us at comcast because their computer monitor won't turn on. Now comcast/mcafee is handing out this garbage so that users can call in and blame comcast for giving them viruses (or not protecting them). (BTW dnthomps what call center are you at? I'm at CVGSTJ)
- Ravishal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0McAfee software valued at $115. I use Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security 2005. It works great, it has what most users need for an of the shelf price of $49.00+tx.
- wintermute0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*shudder* st johns? you're as bad as lubbock.
- FoosYou, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Bout time... now if only they can educate their users a bit on how to use this security software and how to behave responsibly on the net.
- lavawalker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I wish I had stock.
- jj555298, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I don't think that would be allowed by the companies that offer free AV. Most of the EULA's say not for corporate use and Comcast linking to free AV's such as Avast AVG and Antivir would be exploitation in my opinion.
- ahmerhussain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This is worth putting on digg I knew about this for a while now.
- jj555298, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I don't like McAfee either. Although it is good they are attempting to hault potentially destructive viruses. I can see why too, imagine how many calls they get to their support line with people complaining about viruses."It's not our fault" probably won't go far with grandma on the other line.

What is Digg?
