- marksands07, on 08/03/2008, -9/+109When will our government realize that computer crime such as hacking doesn't deserve a 70 year prison sentence and a million dollar fine? They should use these people and show them what they did wrong with their network that allowed those people to break inside and fix it! Quote from a reader comment: 70 ***** years for hacking? some mass murderers got less than that... - Shadowlayer at 05:46 PM on 07/30/08
- Jhiaxuz, on 08/03/2008, -4/+93He hacked the Military with dial up and I didn't even have patience to download porn clips.
- CharlesDance, on 08/03/2008, -1/+86BBC interview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4PkNPCEnJM
He says he just used a simple Perl script. - chrisduser, on 08/03/2008, -4/+89British citizen breaks United States law in London, is sent to United States to face trial.
- xptweakerntn, on 08/03/2008, -6/+84HACK THE PLANET!
- bernardo202, on 08/02/2008, -4/+64Homeland Security? Nah, we don't have that for our multi-billion dollar computers with all our info on Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones.
- xptweakerntn, on 08/03/2008, -5/+51If he is as good as the article says he is, he'll spend maybe a year in jail, and then be offered a job paying well over 10 million.
- Bluepeas, on 08/02/2008, -7/+48Amazing feat O_O
if it did happen.. crazy consequences though.. 70 years in jail is almost his whole life though.. >_> - dty2010, on 08/03/2008, -3/+4070 years seems a bit excessive.
- xptweakerntn, on 08/03/2008, -5/+40Well, did he discover anything worth spending the rest of his life in jail for?
- Couchy, on 08/03/2008, -1/+3656k in 2001? No wonder he got caught.
- smurf22, on 08/03/2008, -1/+36He hacks most of the network and he looks for UFO files...
- BlueSkyfish, on 08/03/2008, -3/+37He isn't good, the government is bad. Who the hell relies on Windows for storing confidential files, much less a Windows computer WITHOUT A PASSWORD.
- smek2, on 08/03/2008, -0/+32And what's so surprising about that? Do you really think hacking is about high bandwidth?
- jeexbit, on 08/03/2008, -3/+34i think proof of "ufos" would pretty much be the most profound thing imaginable on any system.
- jimmiss, on 08/03/2008, -4/+32The man should be let off with a warning. He's no hacker, he's a script kiddie. It's akin to seeing a button on a military website that says "click here for top secret files" and then clicking it and being charged.
- gavin422, on 08/03/2008, -0/+26I agree that offering hackers good jobs is a good idea, but what if that becomes the expectation? Everyone will be trying to vandalize corporate websites because they'll assume it's their audition for their future job. And what if a hacker turns down the job?
Sure, 70 years is a little excessive, but there should still be punishments in place, especially since we're talking about military data here. - wilhoitm, on 08/03/2008, -6/+2970 years and fined as much as $1.75 million is not worth it! Plus everyone knows that aliens are coming in 2012 when the Mayan calendar ends!
- fatas, on 08/03/2008, -4/+27Not a surprise he targeted Windows machines.
- PaulOwen, on 08/03/2008, -1/+23His biggest crime was not to hack in to the Pentagon, but to show his contempt (very publically) of the lax security at the Pentagon.
It is apalling that the US might gain custody and sentence him - the crime he committed was committed in the UK and he is a UK citizen. The US have already indicated that they regard him as a terrorist (isn't everyone who doesn't support the US' bid for global domination these days?)
I only hope that the European Court of Human Rights prevents his deportation.
The USA now has one of the worst human rights records in the world because of Guantanamo. - Labourer, on 08/03/2008, -3/+25I guess the lawyers will argue that a crime was commited on u.s soil as that is where the servers were located, Ipresume
- Labourer, on 08/03/2008, -2/+22
his methods involved targetting computers running netbios and users with no password.
This is the equivalent of randomly trying all the back doors of houses in a street as oppose a master locksmith trained expert thief. - poiuytrewq44, on 08/03/2008, -3/+23It proves he's just another script kiddy.
- Speed, on 08/03/2008, -0/+19Considering his age, it will be his whole life.
- rexblade, on 08/03/2008, -0/+18To bad he didnt copy white house emails while he was in there.
- ileftfark, on 08/03/2008, -0/+17I have a quad core and ISDN, I can hax all u lamerz!
U cant hack me, cuz i got norton!1!!! - poiuytrewq44, on 08/03/2008, -0/+16He can't get a job because he doesn't understand computers as much as he should. If you have to use software (no less bought software) then you don't have the knowledge to fix security holes. He'll never become part of the Red Team it's just not happening.
- MacDevyn, on 08/03/2008, -2/+18Thats expensive, who'd pay $56, 000 for a modem?
- lolupissed, on 08/03/2008, -1/+16Dumbass should have uploaded all the files online
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 08/03/2008, -0/+15Apparently he found matching directories of photos over airports and military property where one set of pictures had unidentified objects, and the other set was the same photo's with the objects edited out.
I remember seeing an interview he did on TV. - xptweakerntn, on 08/03/2008, -0/+14I did. Stating that several people have stated that technology may have been acquired from ET's isn't exactly informing. Besides, treasures are in the eyes of their beholder, and if he feels he found something important, he may be happy.
- appleseed1234, on 08/03/2008, -2/+15And to think people like Karl Rove will get less if any. Our justice system is completely *****.

- insllvn, on 08/03/2008, -0/+12If he found proof of life from other worlds and their collusion with the government of the United States, and that wasn't worth it, what exactly would be? Regardless of what he found, that is what he hoped to find.
- aceallways, on 08/03/2008, -0/+11He started uploading 5 years ago but none of the files are done yet
- jeexbit, on 08/03/2008, -5/+1612.21.2012 - here we come...
- gavin422, on 08/03/2008, -1/+12Not exactly. Do you think they'd let him off if he hacked into their network and did nothing?
- BossKey, on 08/03/2008, -0/+11All our base were belong to him.

Good luck with that. Remember that unlike in GTA4, walking over a first aid kit doesn't heal you. However, the FBI and Army will come to get you if necessary. - tweedius, on 08/03/2008, -3/+12These kinds of stories that make it to the front page really piss me off. Not only are they short an uninformative, the really juicy details that you actually want to know are not in the story or linked to from the story.
- Sakumi, on 08/03/2008, -2/+11Hack the Gibson, mannn!
- gogog0, on 08/03/2008, -1/+10i don't understand why he didnt sell the expert testimony that he hacked for millions to a sleazy magazine
- lgh0s7l, on 08/03/2008, -1/+9this guy hacked the ***** out of our own government computers from london, with a connection that can barely support gameplay on b.net. come on, what have you done lately?
- Takuro, on 08/03/2008, -1/+9I guess at the heart of any good hack, you need to use simple equipment with simple software tools. I think the key is to be persistent and probe low-level technologies. The simpler and more direct, the better. It's stuff most major agencies don't even pay attention to, I suppose. :P
