- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -0/+34No thanks I rather take the terrorist attack than be watched 24/7

- notruth, on 07/17/2008, -0/+15The threat of terrorism is the perfect excuse for those in power to obtain more power. A government's freedom is inversely proportional to the freedom of its people. They gain power and freedom, we lose it. Lack of freedom = Enslavement, and this is simply another step towards that. Do you think the governments of the world are separate entities? Hah! When it goes down, they'll provide our every need, keep us fat and content with mass media entertainment, but we will forget what freedom and privacy mean. The mass illusion is evolving and will continue to evolve, and we will not. Options are limited. It's time to make choices and take action.

***** THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT *new addition* - funkyjunk3, on 07/17/2008, -0/+13Thank you George Orwell, you gave humanity a great example of what _not_ to do and the various consequences that come along with it. Without our distopian books, we would blindly be well on our way to lots of similar kafka-esque laws.
- JKAL, on 07/17/2008, -2/+14Mr BabyMan can you please stop spamming us with this dailymail sensationalism, please... thanks.
- inactive, on 07/16/2008, -10/+21Won't be long now. Damn you Patriot Act.
- TheLittleWitch, on 07/16/2008, -1/+12I understood it that way that akpwnz meant that because of the Patriot Act it will be now easier to bring all of that to Europe. "No country left behind."
- burchie2, on 07/17/2008, -2/+13they already videotape almost everything that goes on.
- spin164, on 07/17/2008, -0/+10We rid more than 300 million people of their rights because of 100 people on the other part of the world hiding in caves.
(basic quote for getting rid of the USA 4th amendment) - unknwn, on 07/17/2008, -3/+13While America isn't this bad, we're certainly on the same track.
What ever happened to being PROUD to be an American!? Freedom comes at a price! 9/11 is the cost of being an American. All this B.S. with more airport security, the war, NONE of that should have happened.
Wake up, the terrorists ARE WINNING Mr. Bush! They're making America miserable to live in as our leaders sacrifice our rights for "security."
Having my rights is worth a 9/11 happening every 20-30 years. And if you don't believe me, put me up in one of those damn towers because I will gladly die knowing that others are going to wastefully expend their lives running a jet into a building to make a failed attempt to destroy our freedom. I want to live and die in the land of the free. - Ne007, on 07/17/2008, -0/+10nope.
- dning88, on 07/17/2008, -0/+9Does anyone have that much storage? I mean, Google only holds static HTML and look at the data centers that it builds. The government needs to store EVERYTHING?
- whiteknives, on 07/17/2008, -1/+10The UK is about a decade ahead of the US when it comes to this sort of stuff. I guess I'll be packing my bags in a few years.

Britain is going to *****, yes - but it's the kind of people who write for the Daily Mail who've sent us down this road with their paranoia and sensationalism.

Contrary to what you might have been told otherwise, the terrorists don't hate your freedom or don't want to destroy your freedom. They simply wanted revenge. You need to listen less to the propaganda that your government is feeding you. - Travelsonic, on 07/17/2008, -1/+7obligatory ***** BIG BROTHER!
- notoneofus, on 07/17/2008, -0/+6"It is better to live in slavery than die in freedom."
I'm sad that anyone feels this way. - appleseed1234, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5To be frank, Mr. Bush knows full well what he is doing and does not care in the slightest. Businessman to the end.
- gothicform, on 07/17/2008, -2/+7"I thought we could mark this November the 5th, a day that is sadly no longer remembered, by taking some time out of our daily lives to sit down and have a little chat. There are of course those who do not want us to speak. I suspect even now, orders are being shouted into telephones, and men with guns will soon be on their way. Why? Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense.Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now high chancellor, Adam Sutler. He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent. Last night I sought to end that silence. Last night I destroyed the Old Bailey, to remind this country of what it has forgotten. More than four hundred years ago a great citizen wished to embed the fifth of November forever in our memory. His hope was to remind the world that fairness, justice, and freedom are more than words, they are perspectives. So if you've seen nothing, if the crimes of this government remain unknown to you then I would suggest you allow the fifth of November to pass unmarked. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me one year from tonight, outside the gates of Parliament, and together we shall give them a fifth of November that shall never, ever be forgot. "

- foofightrs777, on 07/17/2008, -1/+5I always though we'd end up in more of a Huxleyian dsytopia (apparently I'm a pessimist) but lately it seems more and more likely that it's going to be a bizarre Huxleyian-Orwellian dystopian future. Someone forgot to tell the government that those books were not instruction manuals.

- wellyuk, on 07/17/2008, -0/+4For those who don't understand, I understood it that he/she expects similar proposals to be implemented in the US and A, due to the Patriot Act, as opposed to claiming the Patriot Act has anything to do with the UK.
akpwnz, correct me if I was wrong. - Sendai129, on 07/17/2008, -0/+4The Party just said that we've never been at war with Eurasia. We've always been at war with Eastasia. The thought police will be at your door soon now...
- leexy, on 07/17/2008, -2/+5I suppose posting something less sensationalist would be a lot more beneficial. This Daily Mail sky-is-falling crap is the worst thing that could happen to conservatism.
