http://www.battlestargalactica.com/overview.htm - mxmike, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22Yeah that HTML is a real mess, these hackers are obviously not coders. It doesn't take much smarts to hack ftp. Maybe they should take some advice and go to w3schools.com, then go hack 127.0.0.1

http://www.zone-h.org/component/option,com_attacks/Itemid,43/filter_defacer,aLpTurkTegin/
He's doing some sort of security exploit relating to Windows servers. Pathetic.
Edit: No, he's attacked some Linux and MacOSX servers... oh well. - wargod18, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2I can't stand hackers the g00nz keep hitting my clan's TS server. Is there life that boring that they have to hack other websites and servers for fun?

Well both Cylons and Turks massacred millions of men, women and children so they have at least one thing in common. - Ozzy73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The site is back to its normal, boring state
- alive1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Just because there are a lot of hacked domains by him, doesn't mean he's hacked a lot of servers. Hackers like that typically attack large web hosts with several websites on one server.
Oh yea, such things still exist. By the look of it, he might have found an exploit in one of the hosted sites (A php exploit) that allowed him to write files, and then he used that to deface all hosted sites on that server.
But he might also have used some 0day-of-the-day on the box.
Either way, he's not a hacker nor a cracker, and neither is he a script kiddie. He's the nice and friendly man we all adore and know as Mister Blackhat.

You seem to have hackers and script kiddies mixed up. Not that such is unusual. The media likes to call them hackers when they really aren't.
Hacking is generally done out of a desire to discover and understand. Take something that is known and find out something about it that perhaps even the creator didn't know. Please note this is not limited to computers or even electronics.
Hackers generally don't want extra attention. There are exceptions but if many hackers can help it they will go their whole life without any one tying them to anything that has to do with hacking. There are also hacker conventions. These are more politically correctly known as security conventions (see previous comment about the media). It is not unheard of for companies such as Microsoft, Sun, and others to attend. The exchange of knowledge can be beneficial to both sides.
Script kiddies however are exactly like you described, they just want attention. They usually use tools created by real hackers or some one who knows how real hacking works to take advantage of well known and often outdated flaws in programs. They rarely put forth effort to actually understand how they are exploiting, much less develop exploits of their own. Then they run around bragging about how they hacked this or that.
- kutsal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That same guy's been hacking (really, defacing) sites left and right for some time now...
- stringerbell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wow - and here I thought I'd figured out the Final Five Cylons... Instead, it turns out that they're actually Turkish hackers... Hmmm. I'll have to check out the season finale to figure out how they justify that one...

- nmccreight, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@jockser: I agree. Either the hacker is someone who hates BSG, in which case that's just a douche move, or they are a fan playing a joke, in which case....why?
- m4v1s, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8This type of hacker isn't trying to do anything bad to BSG or any of the other sites they have hacked. They are just using a vulnerability scanning tool to look for any website with a certain vulnerability that they can exploit. Doesn't take much skill, just time and the right tools.
On a side note, Digg has had a reply feature for a while now so you dont have to @username anymore. - godofgodlygods, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@m4v1s
if you couldn't tell, you can only reply to an upper level comment, not lower level comments, thus making it sometimes confusing as to who your reply is directed towards.
